The game is looking good. I'm liking the way their PR is handling the media. Gives me a bunch of pics to photoshop. :p

lol, I was hypnotized by the BMW badge on the first pic. Great amount of details. Lighting also seems to be better than in the last batch of pics.

The contrast in this shot is excellent. I would be curious if they are using precomputed AO on the cars or something else. Either way they really do capture the dark ambience of the undercarriage.

That is the best screen I've seen of the game. Something about the lighting is very convincing.

Phew, Order has been restored. 360 doesn't have enough ram for that sticker and can't push enough polys for the sales guy riding in the passenger seat.

Wow, that extra bit of contrast makes a huge difference. The colour of the cars is so much more bearable, makes the models look even better.
It really is the biggest fault with the game, not that the presentation of it is bad, just that the oversaturation of everything takes away a lot of the edge that it would otherwise have.

Ok, a new video. Nothing new, a few more cars revealed if you are keeping track, but more or less the same.

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/design-walkthrou...

New info will be revealed tomorrow it seems though. According to the community guy at the forums, this is actually new info in the form of a podcast. I guess we'll see.

"We figured the best way to dive deep on the settings/features and small details that matter to you most is through a podcast, and that's exactly what we're doing. Of course we can't discuss everything, but I did spend some time looking through threads for relevent questions."--Community guy

Some details from the podcast, copy and paste from FM forums:
1.) You can export video and it will put up a 720p wmv file on forzamotorsport.net

2.) Auto-braking follows the braking line for its braking. You just steer and gas now. They said multiple times that auto-braking is NOT as fast as someone who brakes on their own. It just makes you more consistent.

3.) You get infinite rewinds per race. using time rewind will mark your lap time as "uncertified" along with anytime there is drafting in the same race.

4.) Lap times listed on the leader boards will be listed as "certified" first and then "uncertified. So the worst certified time will be above the fastest uncertified race.

5.) There is now a clutch button, and it is on the left shoulder button on the controller. Hold button, clutch is engaged. Then you shift, then let off of the clutch. There is a missed shift if you don't hit it right. You can damage the car if you miss a shift with sim damage on. The clutch pedal mode is faster than without.

6.) There is now a.) automatic b.) manual and c.) manual + clutch.

7.) In multiplayer there is no rewind, however there is auto-braking. It can be turned off like any other assist.

8.) Auto-upgrade system. "generally useful script" that adds parts to a car based on top of the class. So pick A class, say auto-upgrade, and it will upgrade the car to the PI at the top of that class. If you can't afford all the upgrades for the top of A, it will get you as close as it can then stop.

9.) Auto-upgrade does NOT auto-tune the car. You must tune the car yourself still.

10.) Multiplayer is now like Halo3 and Call of Duty 4 party type of system now is how multiplayer works in FM3. Meaning there will be prebuilt game types that you can join publicly with your party, or you can just build your own private server with exactly your specifications. Things like vote to kick someone, vote to skip a track on these public servers.

11.) Examples of how public servers will be are class and type. ie C class drag, B class drift, A class road racing etc.

12.) They monitor our private matches and if a lot of people are playing a certain setup, they can make a new server based on those settings for the public server list.

13.) All multiplayer modes give you credits. There is no more career or exhibition race. If you race on forza3 in multiplayer (even like cat and mouse) you get credits.

14.) New modes not just racing. Tag mode where you tag someone they are it. There is smear the *** where someone is it, and they have to be tagged for points. There is also army/virus/zombie tag. There is now elimination mode. Finally there is now cat and mouse mode. It really sounds like they just swiped the halo setup and made it for cars.

15.) Scoring on time or drift or damage or whatever.

16.) Starting grid based on PI, gamer-score, car type etc.

17.) Delay start, let players have a 5 second lag between starts for instance.

18.) All cars in FM3 get a Performance Index (PI System). The race-cars classes are now part of the other cars classes. For example you can upgrade your car up to the R classes and through them as well. Some R class cars now have upgrades that can be done to them as well.

19.) Pi is now calculated on the ability of the car and not the ability of the AI to drive it. In FM2, to calculate PI they had the AI calculated what time it could get with each car. This had 1 flaw that the AI can not drive cars. Usually lots of power and poor tires tripped up the AI. Now in FM3, the capability of the car is represented. They hope (fingers crossed) this is more accurate of the cars potential.

"A virtual track that the system looks at. Literally looks at the cars maximum speed through each turn would be and tries to achieve that speed on every straightaway. The cars accelerate, brake, and corners with maximum perfect friction. The only way a player would be able to achieve that same performance would be to drive the car perfectly."

20.) Power-train swaps now split into engine and drivetrain swaps.

21.) Can flip cars on multiplayer. Just jostle the left stick back and forth and you can rock the car back onto its wheels.

Hm, point 19 has me worried. 4WDs are way too easy to handle, they ruin any real competition in a race against RWD cars. In the end I still won't be able to race against 4WDs without being completely outclassed.

Hmmz, lots of 'auto' stuff in FM3.. Maybe more fun for the casual, but for hardcore fans it might take some fun out of it.. I mean what's the fun of finding the right combinations of upgrades if others can get them with one click of a button using auto-upgrade? Hopefully manual upgrades will still prove superior to 'auto' ones, just like manual braking is superior to auto-braking etc..

Doesn't really matter as the ability is there to do it yourself.

Who cares how someone else chooses to do it. Consider it as no different from the guy that pays to have upgrades added to his car in real life as opposed to installing them himself.

Why would it take away the fun, the option is yours.

The auto-upgrade is supposed to be an easy way for you to get your car to qualify for a certain race. If you believe auto-upgrade is going to choose all the right upgrades, I think you'd be wrong. Besides, it's all in the tuning anyways. The computer will go to the one fulfilling the most PI, is that the best? Well that depends on a lot of things right?

It's like 1-button driving. A retarded feature, but it doesn't bother me one bit. Do you really think these people will race faster than you? It's also like ABS, you won't brake better with it on. It's also like the racing line, if you follow what it says you'll be way behind. And traction control, etc etc..........These things are to help those who need it and that's it, not to make it worse for those who don't need these things.

Well the only thing I don't like is that a clutch makes you shift faster. With todays double clutch systems, Ferraris F1 style shifting and sequential gearbox in GT and prototype classes you can change gear in a blink of an eye, much faster than any manual could do. I don't like this aspect at all.

It's not like choosing upgrades is difficult. All you do is choose the one that gives you the stats you want; you don't need to be a hardcore sim racer to know which parts are better considering the game basically tells you anyway. From what I see Auto-upgrade just makes it more convenient so you don't have to cycle through and click to buy all of the upgrade parts you want.

Well, i wouldn't say it's difficult to chose better upgrades, but sometimes it can be laborious. There are situations where you cannot simply pick the best upgrade part, because it would put you to the next class (and so disqualify you for a race). Then you have to browse through all parts and test what combinations efficiently raise PI, but don't put you in the next class. Some auto feature would be very handy. If you want to manually upgrade, then nobody will prevent you from doing this.

A real car nut would know that certain upgrades are more ideally suited for various courses. :P There is no one size fits all upgrade that will make the "best" car for something like Nissan Speedway and Road Atlanta Short.

Features like this, single button racing, the SP that auto-feeds races that fit your garage, etc are accessibility features that don't prevent more seasoned vets from getting more out of the core features that continue to improve. I see now issue with the direction they are taking the title. e.g. The single button racing: anyone who needs to rely on that probably won't be great at steering or track strategy. But I would rather more people play the game and support the franchise than it be an "elitist" game that no Publisher can continue to fund--which is exactly what the title has been. Expensive and underselling for a 1st party major franchise.

I dont think its underselling at all as it has sold more than PGR3 and 4 combined. Infact, the only other first party games that have sold more are Halo and Gears of War, but i do agree that these kinds of assists will indeed make the game more accessible to the casual gamer.
