Not a very exciting trailer...
I agree. There really isn't a lot there that tells me anything. Very few new assets are being shown off (omg beards! girls!), absolutely no hints at new gameplay (oh I'm sorry, there was a tentacle monster), and a very empty and mostly uninteresting set piece. It was also sort of cliche. It feels like they're just going through the motions here to get something out the door and ready to "reveal." In the end, it's really not very revealing.

I sorta wish they showed us Bulletstorm instead!

Campaign Information


Story

* Set 18 months after Gears of War 2, and after the fourth Gears of War book
* The location shown in the "Ashes to Ashes" trailer is a location nicknamed 'Char', where the remains of victims from the Hammer of Dawn strikes are heavily present.

Weapons

* The Pendulum Lancer is in Gears of War 3
* A Double Barrelled Shotgun was spotted in the Ashes to Ashes trailer

Characters

* Dom is now heavily bearded. According to Rod, this is due to his problems dealing with the loss of his wife.
* Anya is the female COG soldier seen in the "Ashes to Ashes" trailer. We will learn more on her transition from pencil pusher to soldier throughout the books.

Enemies

* Lambent Locust: These enemies mutate and transform as you fight them.
Just as i thought no gameplay footage, but i agree it was much better than the Gears2 reveal, anyway some nice info there let the info/footage/screens and hype train begin :)

Ace trailer, but i fall for this every time with the GoW franchise, the trilers make the game look like this "epicly driven story" and what i get is usually as shallow as a puddle of piss (dont tell me to read the books)

Sucks I don't have an Xbox. Never had one.
Their orginal franchises (Halo & Gears) seem to be centralized on this common theme. And I don't find it all that appealing.
Besides, I've never approved of MS' dealings and ways in the gaming ind. ... Just a matter of principle I suppose.

And LOL. I just realized something. "Epic" games? And they're making a game with the same initials as the game that's the very definition of the word... heh. They better bring it. :P

Please. Never, EVER EVER EVER, read any game novelizations. Fuck, Metal Gear Solid left me wondering if it was meant as a parody. It was THAT bad. I endured because I told myself I was reading a Peter Chimaera spin-off.

The story is more than good enough to carry the game, but its the insane action and gamplay that make this one the most succesful franchises out there.

God no, but the books are fantastic :) it may be above average at best of times, but that does not mean there bad.

If Anya is a cog now we won't get any double fingers-on-ear ANYAAA yelling in Gears 3 :(

Hopefully she runs off into the distance often so Marcus still gets to yell AANYAA before talking about GIANT WORMS and stuff. Wouldn't be the same otherwise.


And really, story? That's what you guys have? Gears single handedly re-defined action games for this entire generation, aswell as probably re-defined the way third person games will be made for generations to come. It still has a cover system that other games are at least one series entry behind, with a flow and intuition to it that is ROCK SOLID and almost indefinitely master-able. Story is such a miniscule price to pay when something plays this well.

Well they can't really trailer the gameplay and have the mainstream movie-going, telly-watching audience give a hoot. They have to at least pretend for 2 minutes that they have a story in there. :)

Atmospheric like all the other gears trailers, sad that this will be the last one :(

EDIT: im seeing a pattern where in the trailers marcus and dom are always put in impossible situations, also if the blondie is there, hope they didnt kill baird or cole as those 2 are my fav characters

Well there are rumours floating around about more lush/tropical environments this time around, so it seems to support those speculations.

And Blackhawk, I can't imagine players 3 and 4 are in a completely different part of the game world, so when they're talking about switching groups, they surely must mean you're switching out all four characters you play as?

That's what I'm assuming anyway. So, if you play Marcus, Dom, Baird and Cole during one part of the story, you prolly play a brand new group in the intertwining parts, which should give at least one out of four players control over Anya.

It'll prolly get explained in less vague terms before long though. :)
