HAHAHAH i must agree with the depiction of spartan traditions hehehe. Altho their idea behind loving their male comrades was that a warrior will fight harder if he knows his lovers life depends on it...

But yeah, im more pissed they sometimes alluded to knowing mythology in certain interviews, in 1 such, 1 of the devs said zeus looked over his shoulder worried, which no, never happened, he defeated the titans and ruled supreme, his time was spent spreading his seed. This could be a much funner minigame as in 1 instance hera turned his latest interest into a cow so he wouldnt ravage her, and he responded by turning himself into a bull... :P (all to say, him and his 2 brothers are on a different level, their power is never questioned, and the best heroes could do is injure a minor god)

The more of GoW3 i see the more lackluster it feels imo. The lack of update and outright ridiculous story and gore never really appealed to me and the tacked on titties doesn't add much. I mean, i have a goddamn internet connection. Watching some boobs isn't especially difficult :P A week or so back i was considering getting GoW3 on release, but after the demo and reviews i think i'll hold off until the price drops a bit.

at the end of the day tho, it's a work of fiction based on a work of fiction. i really dont have a problem with it. in the same way movies are the directors interpretation of say, a book or graphic novel, or even a film made earlier. it's a new take on old ideas. as long as it's good (which GOW's story is imo, or at least far FAR better then the others in the genre) i'm more then happy.

it's hard to avoid the reviews and stuff tho. i havnt been this psyched for a game for a long time. even uncharted 2 (fave game of all time) didnt get me as excited to play it as this is. roll on tuesday 16th. it can't come soon enough.

No offense, but that's a damn nerdy complaint if I ever heard one. Not only that, I'm sure the devs are much, much more versed in Greek mythology than you give them credit for. I'd be surprised if some of them didn't do tons and tons of research on the subject. And like KORNdog said, GoW is a work of fiction based on fiction. It's only natural to take a good deal of creative freedom.

Just to show you how desperate devs are to focus in a specific audiance.
I wouldn't say they are desperate. And I mean, it's not like their main character is a sultry chick who gets more and more naked the more powerful her attacks get. Maybe they should have done away with Kratos and replaced him with a chick..then they could show off their breast jiggle physics.

No, GoW just goes straight to the point with lesbians and titties right in your face. Much better.

I didn't say, nor was I implying that it's better. After watching that vid though, you're damn right it's better. I'm not one to really care if there are polygonal titties in my games, but if you're gonna put em in, this is the way to do it. Also, since I'm not in the frame of mind of hating GoW3 because it's obviously a GoW game, I find it easy not to complain about a silly minigame.

That's the way to do it? Just slap it in there for the sake of it, without any style or intention other than the appeal of seeing some nipple?

If you are to have nudity in games then, for the love of god, at least have it within some context that makes sense, not just whores screwing Kratos to suck in tards that haven't figured internet porn out yet :P

In Bayonetta i can sort of accept it because they never do any actual nudity, nor do i think the intention of it was to be sexy as opposed to funny and satirizing shit like this here crap in GoW. They do it with a flair, something that GoW utterly fails to do...if it was ever attempted. Personally i don't think so. I just think it's titties for the sake of titties.

First, the way the fans absolutely drool over Bayonetta leads me to believe it's definitely intended to be sexy...if it can be considered as such. Second, the Japanese seem to have always been about big-tittied overt sexuality in their media, so I in no way think it's trying to satirize GoW even a little.

Did you even play Bayonetta yourself? I just have such a hard time seeing Bayonetta as particularly sexy. Nor does it seem that many others, Raptor aside, thinks so. I mean, if pop a boner from watching the insanely contrived, forced, over the top "sexiness" of Bayonetta...well, that's just sad. Not that i doubt that it happens, i just don't think it was the main goal of it. Like if i draw a nude that doesn't mean that titties was the only thing i was attempting to convey.

Creative freedom basically means youre allowed to make up your own stories to your hearts desires, when you "borrow" from written works, you should try to do the original work justice. And no, I really dont think any of the people in charge of the story knew much about greek mythology, or their cockiness is just so great that they feel theyre allowed to piss over something for proffit.

As for nerdy comment, this is 1 of the few comments where i feel very comfortable and informed. If this game was supposed to be inspired by greek myth, then instead of using names and characters from the myth, how about making new names, new regions, that are just a copy, and there they can have all their creative freedom they want, but truth is by saying it is based on greek myth, which is always a cool subject they got more curiosity from the audience or whatnot, the way i see it they used greek myth to help their game. Does DMC NG or Bayonetta have better stories? nope, yet at least they wrote something new.

BTW, kratos begged for his powers in the face of death... What message does this send to kids? cry hard enough and you get what you want?

See all the heroes in greek myth usually grow, achilles goes from a selfish SOB to realise that he's not the center of the universe, and in the afterlife even realise that life isnt about fame and fortune...

So no, this game has a shallow hero, a story that doesnt portray greek myth even remotely close to whats generaly accepted and a poor message to kids, cry enough, live for revenge, etc...

Seriously? I would hope kids aren't playing it at all. It is an M rated game, right? I figure if the kids ARE playing it, then there are larger parenting issues that will overshadow such a small inferrence. There is no Kratos IN Greek Mythology, so that in and of itself invalidates the "historical" relevance. It's like an alternate reality from what we all know as the Mythology. It's a "what if". And applying some kind of scientific approach of "this doesn't fit the reality" of MYTHOLOGY is ridiculous...

no, creative freedom is exactly that. you can do what you like with any source or any idea. take wolfenstein. source = WW2, but it strays miles from it yet creates something far more original and interesting from it. your definition of creative freedom is an entirely original peice of work. but that couldnt be further from the truth, creative freedom is when you take an existing peice of work, and shape it into something of your own becasue you have the freedom to do so.

go watch the giantbomb interview. they explain like they have done in the past, that they set out to create fun gameplay/ challenges/ confrontation and then find a greek myth that would fit their plan. they have NEVER said they are settting out to faithfully tell the story of greek mythology. not once. it is a loose interpretation. they are inspired by it as far as creatures, settings and gods, but they are in no way bound to it. just like all games based on any time period, story or historical confrontation. sure WW2 games take inspiration from what happened as far as setting, guns etc, but they are no means 100% faithfull, the GAME wouldnt be fun if it was, or there wouldnt be a game to begin with.

what santa monica are doing is taking something and making it there own. just like a director/screenwriter does when he makes an adaption of a book. i dont want an accurate lesson in greek mythology becasue i know about it already and it would make for a boring game. i want something entertaining and fun, and that is exactly what the GOW series offers. if you are seriously hung up on creative freedom you must hate a lot of stuff out there. games and movies alike.

Since when does being historically accurate or accurate to lore/legends mean that it isn't fun? The fact they base a game or movie off of it means it is interesting and fun to begin with.

Some of the best games imitate the real thing. People were in awe when games like Medal of Honor recreated the beach scene of Normandy for example.
Wolfenstein doesn't really stray from WW2 that much either. Everyone knows Hitler and others searched for mystical items and attempted to make the greatest soldiers (super soldiers) the world had ever known. All Wolfenstein does is throw in some monsters and super powers. It isn't that creative.

I would even argue GOW isn't all that creative either. People have been doing stories on characters just like Kratos who battle Zeus for ages. Hell I saw Hades do it in Disney's 1997 Hercules when he released the Titans to battle Zeus.
In terms of gameplay and visuals however, that is creative.

wolfenstein is still more creative then copying reality. where is the creativity in recreating something exactly as it once was. and again, while medal of honor obviously used history as a basis for their game. to be 100% accurate would take away the fun. and thats exactly the oposite of what games aim for. even the most realistic, 'historically accurate' games arnt that accurate. they cant be, becasue certain elements of history, mythology, stories in general dont convay well in game form.

i'd rather a developer do something creative with a source, be it design wise, art wise, story wise or gamplay wise, then just recreate something again...becasue when does it stop? using schmooboo's logic, every game inspired by greek mythology has to be 100% accurate to greek mythology. meaning every game will just be a retelling of the same story, over and over and over. who want that? cos i certainly dont.

Wolfenstein is trying to recreate reality though. They try to make it look and feel real so it feels as though you could be there doing those things. It's the goal of most movies and games, to transport the player/viewer.
This story isn't new. It's been done A LOT (over and over as you say). There are very few mainstream games that contain any sort of originality that isn't stripped from somewhere else. They use the story of revenge against Zeus which has been told numerous ways in our history, games, movies, etc.
I think when someone decides to use classic literature and references from myth, then exploit it with very extreme violence, tasteless propaganda (think of the scandal they created a year or so ago), and sex: people who enjoy those stories and history are going to be offended. What's wrong with that? It is bound to happen and it's valid.
This doesn't change the fact the game is again fun to play.

Also Frozpot, you and I both know kids are playing just about every game. It really doesn't matter if the game is rated M or not. Kids are all exposed to sex and violence at such an early age it really doesn't make a difference anymore. Parents will buy them the M rated game unless they're under 10 generally. The internet has taken care of any sort of barrier between most kids and explicit content.

When it comes to Greek or Roman mythology, it really isn't all that valid to be offended by sex and violence.

Regardless...the devs and publishers do NOT have a duty to protect kids that are NOT supposed to be playing their game from sex, violence, and alleged bad messages.

Well, I'm pretty sure you're wrong. Most anybody who's graduated high school knows a decent amount of Greek mythology, and it really doesn't take much time or effort to learn more about it.
BTW, kratos begged for his powers in the face of death... What message does this send to kids? cry hard enough and you get what you want?
Complaints concerning the creative liberty taken with the mythology and the supposed message to the kids really seem frivolous...to the point where I'm actually shocked that someone would bitch about something so ridiculous.
