Bitches!!
Shows armor customization, coop gameplay(saved film), if you can put up with the music, it gets interesting at around 4mins in.

"Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing. "

Some little blurb from EGM about what they've seen in games so far.
Not to troll or anything, but what they're saying is really valid. A lot of talk from magazines and impressions from demos is how smart (and sometimes just pure evil) the AI is. The Killzone 2 AI in the demos I've seen don't really do a whole lot - nothing that stands out anyways. Maybe as time goes on they'll show off the AI and not the "pretty pretty gritty graphics" with motion blur and filters...
Is the MC the first videogame character to get waxed at MT's?
Maybe we'll see Solid Snake there in time. hehe

Killzone 2 - Coming sometime in 2008!
I hope EGM was joking because that isn't valid at all.
No game can get that kick ass AI in pre-alpha, and then compare THAT AI to the one that is coming like 3 weeks from now.
But I know Game Informer was praising the AI and said its very good.
I rather go with G.I than EGM.
Never liked EGM to be honest :S.
The only reason I posted this is because I saw that in another forum, so I didn't want to make a new thread so I posted it here.
Ah well...
Back to Halo 3, sorry for going off topic there a bit.

Ditto on the spot lights. I noticed this and commented on it about the Warthog headlights. I was pretty shocked to not see shadows cast in the bunker. The self shadows also have some issues with contrast with the cast shadow (different techniques is my guess) and dark/light side contrast and shadows. I am sure part of this all goes back to the HDR model and trying to emphasize it without overblooming everything.
Part of the reason devs avoid using certain techniques is because they are new and a lot of people are unfamiliar with them (they say you are nitpicky when a trained eye doesn't see them; then when become standard everyone expects them). A classic exaple is 3 years ago Carmack argued that most people wouldn't notice self shadows, hence it wasn't worth the cost. Which is the second point. Quality shadows and point lights are expensive. The more objects you have and higher poly count and these can break your game. This is one reason CoD4 uses a lot of normals and low poly models--it allowed them to invest more in lighting/shadows and particles while keeping a high framerate. Ever game makes compromises.
As for the questions about PS3 games... I do talk about them. But we have enough people bashing Sony and our newfound PS3 friends that we don't need me chimming in. And Sony just doesn't have the games I am interested in--and fewer games in general--and most of my indy friends are on the MS side of the court.
But I do say stuff, people just miss it. I didn't have so flattering things to say about KZ2 when the USAToday shot surfaced.
Anyhow, Heavenly Sword has HDR, and dynamic objects both cast and receive dynamic shadows. The only glaring issue I have seen is that in large open areas the shadowmaps aren't quite big enough for the expansive screen space so in these open areas the aliasing (shadow crawl) is pretty bad. Not quite as bad as seen in the older Mass Effect stuff (my eyes, my eyes! they bleeeeed) but still distracting.
Personally, once we get quality lighting and shadowing techniques and start getting dynamic indirect lighting models, and hardware fast enough to do these techniques in good quality on large scale games, I won't be quite as interested in technology because the focus will be squarely on art.
Right now, 75% of what makes a game look good is art (direction/design coherance, quality, variety) and the last 25% is hardware and appropriately using the hardware. Some really technically excellent games look *horrible* and some of people's favorite games use many older techniques (not a bad thing as you can get good IQ levels... see GeOW).
The fans have spoken. Concerning the graphics of the Halo 3 Beta: "There's so many little effects and things going on that make this game pretty much 2nd only to Gears at the moment."

A Microsoft game vs. a Sony game. How convenient.
OK, that wasn't really a question, but it's a legit comment. We didn't pick Halo 3 and Killzone 2 specifically to go against each other or to cause extra controversy. We voted as a staff (including the entire 1UP Network, which includes 1UP.com and GameVideos.com), and we honestly and independently came up with Halo 3 at the top of the list for best A.I. and Killzone 2 at the "top" for worst. We didn't even think of it as Microsoft vs. Sony thing until we realized that both games won their respective categories.
