I'm not sure what peoples definition of close is here but it's a Halo game on the same hardware.

And no, I'm neither blind or a fanboy.

Weapon models or weapon graphics or whatever they call it looks very nice.

i think people are getting confused by art style and graphic techniques, its Halo from Bungie so its going to always retain the same art style and look of the halo games, but even from those crappy pics you can tell graphically its way better than halo 3.

I've no doubt it'll be better than Halo 3, and so it should be.

personally i'd put half life 2 (plus it's episodes) COD 4 and killzone 2 far ahead of halo 3, at least as far as single player experiences go
Blech. I only managed to play CoD4's campaign once. I tried playing it again, but it felt like I always had to play it the same way. I was able to play Gears 2 a couple more times, but it still suffers from feeling stale on successive playthroughs. As for HL2, I tried twice to complete it, but the vehicle sections and excessive instances of loading caused me to quit each time. I never played KZ2, but I got a strong CoD4 vibe from the little bit I saw of it before my roommate got bored of it.

Halo 3, like Halo:CE, never felt like that to me. While the game is obviously linear, individual battles didn't come off that way. I've no doubt Reach will have a similar feel, but I really hope Bungie steps up their game in a big way.

Someone mentioned the animations...............I've been playing ODST SP and they are just downright dated, pathetic. I can't believe how AWFUL character models are in Halo now, how they move, their faces, their facial "expressions"......almost laughable. Honestly, they've got to step it up. I said it about 1 year ago, but I think it's downright embarrassing that Half Life 2 still has the best facial animation of ANY video game ever--and when was that released?

It's bewildering and just...laughably funny how poor the human models are. Bungie needs to avoid trying to normal map characters' faces as they've demonstrated a complete lack of ability in that area.

Some of the best "virtual actors" I've ever seen are in Myst V... which are considerably better than in Half Life 2.. and I'm sure that's been since surpassed too.

Back to the other comments

Also wow, i think it looks the same and people are almost crying, but i am sorry, no matter how HARD i stare at them badly leaked pictures it looks the SAME no not the art style, but the detail (from what i can see of that blurry as shit) it looks the same, as in the engine has not been optimized more for the machine..

Dont give me that fanboy shit or blind shit either, the fact you use those comments instead of something else, hell a true halo fanboy would get me pictures of halo 3 and reach and point out diffrences using markings through paint

For the Mr Magoo's among us!

The top pic is taken ingame from Halo3 with the screenshot mode (IE the best it could ever look), the bottom pic is off an early alpha build still with placeholder textures taken with a crappy cellphone and blurry as hell, also Reach is rumoured to be only 50% complete, the Reach pic is clearly much better than that of Halo3.

MTYF, realise that bungie have a bit of a funny way of working, they essentially create the entire game twice, an initial pass that creates basic geometry so the game can be played to fine tune the gameplay and THEN they go onto decorating the game. Those shots are very much the first stage, thats why you have the new weapon models, very inconsistant lighting and very sparse detail (those mountains look worse than anything in any halo game).
Im not making excuses, im not a fanboy, its just a way their dev pipeline goes. I HOPE they have actually been working in tandem to create an engine capable of rendering far more detail, we've all touched on the areas where the previous games need to be improved upon just to match up to pretty much any game this generation (i'd say the human models in GTA4 are more impressive than the ones in H3) and it would be pure commercial suicide if they fail to do so.

No joke. Halo has, arguably, some of the Best AI out there. The only other game with as sophisticated AI is the first FEAR. Not only are the enemies smart, but there is a wide variety of class specific behavior. As to the visuals- mabe they should just make it really windy like KZ2. All the movement and debris takes your attention away from it's flaws. A persistant lense flair, perhaps :P Anyway, I DO think they could benefit from some motion capture or, better yet, some support from Natural Motion and the Euphoria engine *shudders with delight*...
Euphoria in a Halo game would be awesome as it would tie directly into their already pretty deep AI trees. Sadly I don't think it'll happen, in some ways they are a studio a little stuck in their ways and canned animation is something they've been a fan of.

The leaked stuff is interesting. The bitching about graphics already in leaked, blurred shots from a pre-alpha build is sadly not surprising.

These screen shots really don't show anything at all that people can judge. For right now yeah it looks like the same game, but does that really matter with this quality of media? These screens aren't worth anything more than letting us know of this games existence.

Yes the screens are blurry, but its clear their is more detail than Halo 3, nflrules74's post is good example. Halo artwork is very distinct I think maybe people are confused by this.

I don't know about Myst V, but Uncharted does have some great animations. The only problem with that is that facial animations are something you see in a cutscene. In Half Life 2, since you are in control at all times, the fact that the character will follow you, it manages to still look great despite all these years. I just think many developers are taking a very complacent attitude. Gearbox and Brothers in Arms, all Halos, Splinter Cell.....I don't know, I think it just looks cheap. This is specially true for games that try to convey any sort of feeling through the characters.

The Chief has been successful because he's "robot-like", and we don't see his face. On the other hand, any other character trying to convey any sort of emotions fails terribly, and thus the story is not convincing along the way. For a game that prides itself on the story, it's awkward to say the least.

The only things that aren't clearly placeholders are the gun models, and those look fantastic. If the rest of the game contains that level of detail then this should be one of the best looking games on the 360, if not the best.

What I think the Halo series needs to capture, is the same level of cinematic quality, that was present in something like COD 4 Modern Warfare. It still blows me away, that with all the exciting and epic subject matter that makes up the Halo Universe, Halo 3 fell way way short of matching the level of presentation present in COD4.

How many series can sell the way Halo does? And yet for some strange reason, now that you have a much wider view of this generation of games, does it come off looking like one of the more moderate budget titles out there? I hope Reach ends up fixing this.

Despite Halo 3 coming off as a bit average in its productions - I agree with your point that its cinematic quality is poor in comparison to the likes of COD4 - it's still very much a stellar title. I consider its multiplayer the best this generation (yes, better than COD4's MP).
