LOL nothing anyone can say can stop this high ;D

Bungie literally just served a whole host of individuals a healthy serving of crow and I'm having a blast, so excuse me while I soak in how awesome this game looks ;)

Some, from the early magazine shots, even called it one of the worst looking games this gen. I even got a bit of crap for saying I thought the game would look better than the magazine shots.

Ah lol

Well, we're happy to eat crow, it shows bungie is listening and arent quite as far removed / ignorant as most of us had feared.
I'm always looking to be proved wrong and unfortunately bungie has pretty much failed to do that every time of asking so far.

Visuals aside though, I'm in love with the new animations. Did you guys see the way those elites moved? The step back, you could even notice the movement of the toes, or what I assume are the toes. Basically as described in the bungie update awhile back when a description of a fight against an elite was given. I especially love how the shield effect doesn't look clumsy. It's exactly as they stated in their update, it doesn't obscure the details of the character models, and I like that.

I also really like the assassination. Better than I thought it would be. I also really like how they appear to be handling the presentation. A lot to be excited about in there. Biggest of all perhaps is that the gameplay actually manages to look as if it has meaningfully evolved, even while still maintaining what makes it Halo.

I agree Ops just enjoy it :D, that Vidoc just served a lot of people humbel pie, and i love how it says on the buuild screen that its still pre-alpha, but yeah visuals aside animations was my biggest pet peve with the other Halo's and finally we have top notch animations, and i can only imagine how bad ass it will be with even better AI and big scale battles, i am super hyped.

With all the good stuff in there, there's one scene that really peaks my interest, the one where it appears some very high ranking officer is walking into what I think is a dropship and other military personnel appear to be pointing their weapons at Noble Six?

Maybe that isn't what's happening, but I'm really interested in knowing what the heck is going on there. Also, there's a part in the vidoc where we see the face of a different Spartan and then it immediately transitions to Noble Six holding his helmet in hand at the start of the cutscene we all saw. Could that have been Noble Six's face we saw?

Oh and...

owned :P

Also, there's some really nice shadow use in this thing. The characters shadow even appears to be showing up on whatever weapon he's holding.

Perhaps what makes this better is that Turok sucks and Halo is a much better game! Damn that was easy :)

On a more serious note, why exactly would a Spartan need to do things in the same brutal or inefficient manner as what is seen in Turok? Last I checked, you aren't fighting dinosaurs in Halo Reach :)

LOL, I know Turok sucked (demowise)....but what makes the "stealth kills" better than Halo Reach's? Turok's stealth kills was satistfying to watch, this one is trying to copy it but not make the effort to make it cool enough...other than climb :P

PS. I still like what I am seeing here though ;)

Damn man, they've only showed 1 stealth kill and you come to this conclusion that Halo's kills aren't going to be cool =/

Well, I wouldn't even hold out for more glamarous looking stealth kills because

#1 These are Spartans. We may find how they go about taking someone out silently to be particularly flashy, but don't expect much else than what we've already seen.

The main thing when I first heard about this that I wanted to keep in mind is that, whatever this third person animation is like, it absolutely cannot be overdone. It needs to be quick and efficient, and that's exactly what the shown animation accomplishes. A Spartan doesn't have the time nor need to do anything much more flashy than that, especially if the circumstances don't call for it.

We don't want to be seeing Spartans curb stomping people (On second thought, that might be pretty cool to see LOL), but you should get where I'm coming from. They are super elite soldiers of the highest order. The animation showcased, I believe, firmly gets that message across without also seeming too overdone, I think it strikes a nice balance.

Who knows though, we may perhaps yet see different kinds for various enemies and what not, and that would be cool, but it can't be too drawn out :)

Who knows what a Spartan would probably do to a jackal, for instance, he may manhandle a jackal more.

If anything, Op was the dubious one, with all his talk how Bungie compromises graphics for "useless" features. But now we have both incredible graphics and extensive featureset :]
I can't wait to see the game after all the polish is done - I doubt they'll improve graphics, but I expect they'll add a lot of little scripted events in the background that will bring even more life to the environments.

Yea, in that sense, there is partly some major egg on my face and I won't deny it, however, it isn't like I didn't find the game to look great then, I most certainly did and said exactly that -- even expected it to look better -- I was more finding a way to say to those who thought the graphics were disappointing, that they should also take into consideration a lot of the things that Halo Reach is doing that some other games simply don't do while managing to look as good as it does, and I personally felt a good number of those things like 4 player split screen, 4 player co-op and being able to record the game weren't as important as some were making them out to be. I'm not too opposed to at least 2 player co-op, but I personally believe that 4 player split screen is not only excessive, but totally useless and while being able to record everything is awesome, I also feel I can do without that.

Now with that said, anybody notice that when that press release on reach went out they mentionied 4 player co-op, but when it came to the issue of split screen, they just called it "split-screen", as opposed to saying 4 player split screen? May be nothing, may be something.

I also can't believe I'm so happy about the Brutes being back. They may now actually be their own unique personalities. Halo 3, I don't think did them true justice. They were basically just a new avatar that were filling the spot of the elites.

I honestly don't think it's anything remarkable graphics wise, but it's hard to tell if the image quality concerns some (and me) have voiced have been addressed before we can see it running in realtime on our respective 360s.

I will say however that something that vidoc reminded me of is just how incredibly superior Halo is to virtually every other first person shooter in terms of core gameplay. Sure you can harp on about how excitingly scripted Modern Warfare is or how immersive the atmosphere on Helghan is, but when all is said and done, when it's about the dynamism of gameplay Halo is the god damn king.

Also, although a lot of people want to somehow discredit ODST because it was a Halo 3 engine game subjected to much berating on behalf of its pricing and somewhat curious definition in the marketplace, that game played exceptionally well. Its city bits had a lot of people trying to blast their way through every encounter (brought on by not turning off the visor thing, ie being spotted all the time) but if you played those parts like they were intended, and chose whether you wanted to engage enemies and if so, HOW you wanted to engage them, that too shone light on the combat mechanics in a brand new way, further emphasising just how dynamic they are. Effortlessly the game changes character based on how you play it.

This was mentioned in the vidoc in a way, their refering to Reach gameplay as essentially "sandboxy". It sounds to me like the city bits and the interjecting, more tightly structured/directing levels of ODST will be seamlessly brought into Reach, which effectively brings BACK the gameplay from the first Halo, which - if you go back and check it out - totally does brush past some non-linear "sandboxy" elements.

Again, ODST takes a lot of surface flak, but if you get into it you can see one, radiant thing. Bungie are getting better and better at making Halo. It took a dip during Halo 2 for sure, with its almost awkwardly tight and stubborn level design (not unlike what you see in essentially EVERY OTHER FPS, but Halo's core gameplay wants to be free!) but the steps taken with Halo 3 and even perhaps more importantly ODST just fills me with the overwhelming realisation that as a game, Reach is likely to be pretty spectacular.

Then you have a ton of perhiperal stuff that will get on people's tits no doubt. I can't even count how many people dismiss ODST outright because you're not playing as Master Chief. To be honest, that's their problem, and loss.

Very well said Simon, even though I'm one of those people that didn't take ODST seriously, but seeing Reach makes me want to seriously consider getting it to get in on the BETA.

http://previews.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/2503/Halo-Re...

TeamXbox Preview.
Graphically, the game is a far cry from even the most recent Halo titles. Polygon counts and texture resolutions have gone up by an order of magnitude, and it shows in the up-close shots of characters and weapons. During the demo, they zoomed in on a battle rifle to show the tiny writing on the weapon’s sighting device. The graphical upgrade is so profound, that it almost looks like it belongs on a future generation of consoles. Particles and lighting have also been significantly upgraded, with grenade explosions looking far more complex and projectiles kicking up dust and chunks of debris from any surface they hit. Halo: Reach is one of the best-looking games we’ve seen on the Xbox 360 yet.
