Mods, stop changing my SIG! I'm going to end up banning you!
As for Stealth kills, in Turok you smash a knife into a dinosaur's head, perform a whisk like action and then whip it out with a shower of claret. Halo's stealth kills won't be anything like as good :P
I just hope there will be plenty of variety although that might be hard. In MP for balance all stealth kills will need to take the same time, which might handicap them a bit.

The screens were a shot to the gut. This video should have been showed before anything.
It definitely looks like they're now using motioni blur, and the game seems fairly strong in the shadow department. I didn't expect to see the Spartan's shadow casting on the gun in first person mode like it does, and I surely didn't expect to see even something as small as a bird flying off in the distance, which also casts a shadow on a mountain.
Also, the nightvision mode, which I think is what it was in one of the gameplay scenes, looked damn awesome! It looked like some kind of filter was definitely at work and I don't think it was a typical nighttime filter. I want to see as many cool things from the books as possible. I'd really like to see the fiber optic probe at some point in the game if possible, even if it doesn't end up being some major part of the gameplay.
They clearly stated in the vidoc that Reach's campaign will be doing a lot of things that people don't usually expect from a Halo game, and i hope the fiber optic probe is one of them. It would be pretty damn awesome to see a thermal vision as well since Spartans also had that. I wonder if that high ranking officiail that appeared to be stepping onto that ship is within the UNSC or if he's some major insurrectionist leader or something? They definitely seemed a bit hostile towards Noble Six. I wonder if you actually get to play in Noble Six's shoes as he partakes in one of his major missions prior to the events on Reach?

My only thing is I want to see the other major locations of the planet Reach, not just the backwoods.
Some of us didn't know what the hell.
I still don't know, until it's out there and people are bitching.
Last one to the rendezvous point, would have to be left behind. Master Chief ensured that didn't happen and really did an amazing job leading all of the Spartans, even figuring out that the soldiers guarding the Pelican had bad intentions and didn't at all intend to let them board. It's what earned Master Chief his stripes as squad leader. None of the other Spartans will know or recognize it, but Jorge, who is the only Spartan II, had to be among those kids whom Master Chief ensured would past Mendez's test and that nobody would be left behind.
I'd love for Noble Team to come across that very famous field that they ended up on and for Jorge to speak of the Chief. They want a character driven narrative, then this is a major way in which homage can be paid to the greatness of the chief, while also paying homage to Reach itself, since Bungie says they are treating it like a character as well.

God I love touches like that. As a matter of fact, I'm so damn taken in by the visual look of this game, that if something like this had been done in prior Halo titles, which maybe it probably was, can't remember, I honestly wouldn't notice.
I also love how that door way lights up :D

I suppose it could simply just be blood, but due to the elaborate look of the effect, I thought that it might also potentially be the equipment that grunts carry around in order to breath in the atmosphere from their home world that was being damaged, especially because no other cov enemy I've seen appears to display such an elaborate blood spray effect as a result of being shot. Then again, the grunts are a different breed altogether and the game is only in Alpha, so perhaps other Covenant will be getting a similar thing, but I wouldn't count on it.
Oh, and Grunts do have blue blood, so, yea, it could just be blood :P
Indeed Jin, the shadow from the character casting on the gun is a very nice touch. The motion blur looks fantastic, and there is some weird effect going on with those stairs, I can't quite put my finger on it though.

I never said the end product wouldn't look better, but I think it is fair to say those shots show all those qualities. They didn't even show dramatic lighting or the like (see the pools sequence shots someone posted from the beginning of Halo 3 -- beautiful and detailed trees, water, dramatic lighting, great backdrop, etc -- from Halo 3).
I am not one to junk gameplay for graphics. If graphics are servicable I don't think gameplay should be neutered for prettier pixels as long as it doesn't impact gameplay. What is servicable is debatable, but I still play some older games. For market reasons you obviously need good graphics in a title like this, but they shouldn't cut back huge battles for extra pixels when the gameplay is aimed at big battles.

I don't want to overstate it's impact on the single player visuals but it's certainly something they have to bear in mind when they build the engine. Moreover, it's not a feature they are going to remove at this time because some people want it to look nicer.
Split screen gaming has it's place. I went to a friends and the four of us wanted to play Borderlands on two Xboxes via system link / LIVE. That we couldn't was rather frustrating.
First is general blueprint. If you are going to do 4 player split screen every aspect of your engine needs to scale. Gameloop, physics, AI, graphics, sound, etc. There is a reason a game like KZ2 didn't just toss some coop in--you really need to plan, and it impacts what technology you use. If you are just edging by at 30Hz with SP you cannot just say, "Lets add in another splitscreen and cut resolution down." Your tech NEEDS to depricate nicely and your art needs to do this in same.
So as Deft said it isn't just about cutting down resolution and turning off some effects. Imagine with 4 player split screen: You have 4 players on TOTALLY different parts of a map. That means the same console needs ALL of that loaded into memory. It also means it needs to be actively calculating EACH area--in SP you could get away with stall states or doing very loosy routines for stuff not in the player sphere. This means you need to design assets to fit into memory and run. You also need the AI to be workable. Little things like sound are huge, too. Now you have 4 players generating sound, so your engine needs to be able to scale downward in sample quality and number of channels. The graphics are also a challenge because both your engine AND art need to scale. Cutting resolution isn't enough, so when you start turning off some shadows and shaders and texture resolution does the game still remain playable? And did you leave enough processing power to split the screen 4 ways, do 4 distinct viewports? Not trivial at all in terms of performance.
So you need to have art assets that work with this + have an engine where you picked shaders and techniques that work with this.
So undoubtable allowing split screen SP and 4 way MP does have a HUGE impact on graphics. It doesn't mean a game cannot look good--far be it--but there is a reason Uncharted 2 looks the way it does. It is more linear and doesn't need to consider the difficulty of scaling to mp splitscreen for SP content.
So should Halo Reach drop splitscreen SP and 4 way MP? NO. The gameplay is the primary issue. People bought ODST like gangbusters. The fact Reach looks a TON better will make most consumers VERY happy. It need not be the "best" technically. Bungie gets it: one major reason people love Halo is it is social. Hence why it has been a major mover in console online play and they really pushed out a lot of social tools (Bungie.net, Forge, Theater, 4 player SP coop!!, 4 play MP on one box, 2 player SP on one box, etc) that you don't see other games even attempting. -- BFBC2 would gain a LOT with 4 player coop for SP. But I don't think people understand how subtle and significant these features resonate with gamers for long term appeal.
Like I said weeks ago Bungie gets it.
