Hey, I'm not a Sony fanboy and I think it looks better than Halo 3. Don't go into excuses like "Well the scale!" or "Well it don't matter, the CG still looked better!" or "But...but...but...Riiiidge Racer!" or anything, I was more impressed with KZ2, end of story. The animations truly look next-gen.

^ That's not to say that Halo is a steaming pile of crap though, Im not the biggest halo fan, but there were parts of that trailer which i thought were really coo, like the giant walking battle tank thing.

People are hyping this and COD4, I just dont see it, all I see is grey brown and black with some muddy textures.
Its called art direction, and some games are grittier than others. I actually prefer that look to the (what i feel is) overly shiney and colorful games like Halo.

Need to see some extended gameplay before i comment on good animations, but from the trailer it looked good, the KZ2 presentation was what stole it for me, yes i know it was a cutscean of the CGI video they showed 2 yrs ago, but it just felt right to me, i loved the flare and intensity then bamn into the game, H3 showing was more of a gameplay montage almost like they dont want to show any of the story whatsoever.. but i have to say i was very impressed by the graphics i saw, all in all its gonna be a happy week & year for gamers :)

hmmmm colour me non impressed, this game is "ahem" pre pre alpha
at this stage the game should be way past pre pre alpha, they would have started development on this game around the time of gears

so i dont buy pre pre alpha bad textures and whats with the over pixelated shadowing ??

I dont understand what the huge hype is with regards to CoD4. It looks the same as any other decent fps, with maybe a few extra bells and whistles.

Im a massive halo fanboy, and even i was dissapointed with the trailer. The graphics dont seem much to shout home about, and there seemed to be some lag in some of the cutscenes.

This on the other hand, left me shocked at how damn good it looks. It just screams high production values etc! Consider me intrigued.

Alpha is just a development stage. COD4 was previewed as "Pre-Alpha" and it comes out at the end of the year. It doesn't mean much. All things considered.. I think it looks great. Some low res textures? Sure -- but that's not the only visual component is it? Don't forget the scale.

what's special about it is that NO ONE thought it would look this good, especially after that notorious E3 trailer, and a promising but flawed first game that got the unfortunate label of "halo-killer". People had deemed the game a failure and lost cause before they even showed any game footage. The fact that they were able to deliver even on a small level is what's amazing.

It looks good, perhaps even great, despite a few rough edges. Considering what people were expecting -- especially after yesterdays screenshot release, that's what's amazing.

Warning: Talk about KZ here and Halo 3 in the Halo threads.

Good job Sony... as for everyone else, there is a LOT good going on here, but also (as I pointed out yesterday) a lot of stuff not so hot. The poly count and the atmospherics (the later similar to the CoD approach) are outstanding and really stick out. Excellent art direction as well.
