But even if there is LAN support, it doesn't really change the fact that FourZeroTwo was completely dishonest in that interview.

These companies are going down the drain.

It's also hard to find people of your level, you either get some people who spend all their lives playing Forza, or some complete noobs who are not worth racing against. Then later on in the life cycle, you will only find these repetitive "matches"--drifting (fun for a while), oval, and maybe cat and mouse.
So yeah, I'm thinking matchmaking in FM3 might just be a good thing, that is until they release new tracks that divide the community just like in H3.

The screening’s to be compered by a celeb fan.
The event will also be supported by an “epic” midnight opening at HMV’s Trocadero Store.
There’s also to be a “VIP launch party” in “a secret underground bunker,” headlined by one of the “UK’s biggest male artists of 2009.”
We’re practically shitting ourselves with excitement, now. Hit the link for the PR.
On November 9th 2009, Modern Warfare 2 will invade the capital with a unique game launch event and screening. In a world’s first, the most highly-anticipated game of all time will be hosting its launch event in Leicester Square, home of the ‘Hollywood Premiere’.
The screening will be compered by a celebrity fan of the game and give journalists, celebs and fans of the critically-acclaimed Modern Warfare series a chance to see this year’s biggest game on the big screen ahead of its global launch on Tuesday 10th November.
The event will also be supported by an epic midnight opening at HMV’s flagship Trocadero Store, along with a VIP launch party in a secret underground bunker, headlined by one of the UK’s biggest male artists of 2009.

Good post. I hate some of the ignorant user comments though. Take this one for instance:
Are people really this stupid? There's a mods "yes/no" switch in the server browser, and it defaults to NO. Ugh.
People just love to offer their opinion without having a clue about what they're talking about.

Console Gamers: "You cheeseburger eaters always have a sense of entitlement. What faggots."
TY NeoGAF. You got something right!
If ease of use was a serious issue, I wouldn't be against some form of matchmaking. The problem I have is that they're using that to rationalize their decision to toss mods and dedicated servers out the window, and frankly, they're not mutually exclusive. It's fucking insulting that they think their double talk and rationalizing would fly. We're not fucking stupid, and they're treating us like we were born yesterday.
Did I mention they were fucking liars? ;)
I hate consolized games. I hate the fact Halo 3 has a ton of options that are worthless without a server browser. Bungie lied. Turn10 are some of the biggest... yeah. Don't get me started with EA and DICE (180 degree turn after BF:V release e.g.) These companies over promise, gloss over the uncomfortables, etc all the time.
While I would miss Ded Servers in CoD4 MW2, I cannot think of a single mod I liked. Due to the complexity of asset design and the skill needed in most of these games not following FC2's steps, modding is a dieing field, just like PC game sales.
No ded servers makes this a sure 360 sale for me, the end result doesn't change too much how I played the games. I would guess the comeptitive gamers would stay on the more established, stable, and less "over the top" CoD4 anyhow. I don't agree with IW's move, but then again I am not sure it makes from a business perspective for IW to not lock customers down, diminish piracy, and offer more potential DLC sales. The PC version was SURE to sell the least -- even WORSE THAN THE FREAKING PS3 FOR CRYING OUT LOUD -- so further reducing sales doesn't make sense.
They should have been more up front from day 1. That is the big problem. Now they can join Valve, EA, Dice, Turn10, Microsoft, Sony, etc in this exclusive club of companies with PR not worth the toilet paper I wipe my butt with.

As someone who participates in competition, no mods is a deal breaker. And as a gamer (note, no platform attached) who appreciates how much mods have done for the genre, it should be a deal breaker for everyone else too. The mod scene is still capable of producing retail quality content. Just look at source. Assuming otherwise is short sighted. This isn't just bad for PC gamers, it's bad for shooter fans in general.
Lets hope others don't follow in Infinity Ward's footsteps. Don't be naive. Ease of use is not the issue here. Ease of use and mod/dedicated server support are NOT mutually exclusive concepts!
PC Gamers are paying more for less. All consumers should be concerned about such issues.. and there's nothing wrong with the vocal dissent. It's hard for people on both sides of the issue to have an intelligent discussion about it, which is a shame, because it belittles some of the more reasonable concerns that people are trying to voice.
Just because hardcore gamers (and this isn't about platform) aren't the bread and butter of this industry anymore, our opinions are still valuable. These giant publishers are so short sighted sometimes.. it's sad.
And no, it doesn't make it a bad game, but it does excessively deplete its value to me.. and it concerns me that people are just willing to overlook broader issues and just take everything pubs give us laying down.
Fuck that.
"shocking" new detail
There is an option to turn on 3rd person camera in private matches, and there are a couple of matchmaking playlists that are 3rd person oriented.
So if you want to avoid the game's story being spoiled, I'd say it's a good time to avoid all gaming related websites and forums.
Anyway, there is a fun mission in the game that has a nice little twist in the way it plays out. It's also the reason the BBFC gave it an 18. I did think at the time it would be fun just to be dropped into this scenario without any prior knowledge so if you want to enjoy the campaign "pure" so to speak, be very careful what you click on as it's bound to come out in short order.
