That's pretty unlucky. At around 24 hours of mp, I've only experienced host migration maybe four times.

Yea, seems to be able to shoot through buildings and everything.

Game really shoulda been called selecting host warfare, dont think ive had a single game today that hasnt switched host at least once, had several that switched 3+ times, including 1 that switched during the final killcam.
better that than being kicked back to the lobby. I guess it's now these initial weeks, lots of occasional players and noobs, just curious about MP, not taking the games to the end.

but i do think the game, at least here in central europe, is very laggy, Cod4 wasn't

I don't know if this has been posted here before, but if you play MW2 on PC and your behind a router, you need to open up port UDP 28960 to be able to be picked as a host.. Since I opened up the port I've had way less lag when playing, so I presume I'm the host a lot of times now.. I know for sure one time when I wanted to leave the game it said it was looking for another host when I did.. It makes the MP a whole lot more playable/enjoyable..

Overall I like the game, I like the SP and co-op, and even MP is fun.. Although the (Xbox Live-like) system behind it still completly sucks, only advantage I can think of is that you now can make a party with friends and join a server.. But things like not being able to join friends that are already in a game etc is just pathetic.. The gameplay in MP sometimes feels to arcady, with lots of people running arround like crazy, bunnyhopping, knifing, and using akimbo weapons.. Perks like increasing melee distance and faster running etc don't help with that.. But overall I still enjoy the game..

Well, to correct myself. tonight I had plenty of lag again, even when aparently hosting.. This system just doesnt work.. It's a horrid PC MP game this way.. But who cares, this game won't last long anyway without any features to support proper servers, clans, mods and/or other community features etc.. And I presume that's excatly what they (=Activision) want.. They don't want longlivity, they want us to buy their next release asap.. Not this gamer though, if the next CoD has the same online system, no more buy for me..

I wish more people had taken this stance prior to giving them the $60 go ahead to continue raping us.

I have to admit, I'm a little happy to see COD4 overtaking MW2 on Xfire this week. Back to #2 for MW1.

I only paid 37,95 euro (incl shipping) for it fortunatly.. A fair price for a good SP and co-op game I guess.. And I was willing to give IW the benefit of the doubt for that price.. I would never have paid the recommended retail price for it..

But now that I've experienced the console-like online system myself and found it very dissapointing, I don't think I'll buy the next CoD game if it has the same online system again.. Then it's really time to say 'no' to their new policy.. And lets hope a lot of PC gamers will do the same (although I doubt it will make a difference with these multiplatform games these days)..

Nah, pc market is worth too much money, dont forget it's greed that pushed the decisions on the state of MW2 PC, if it doesn't work they will just switch back to the old ways and still get a chunk of money out of the PC market.[/quote]

Oh, theres lots of that too, lots of lag (ive had 3 green bars but it played like yellow bars, slow motion and pausing every couple of seconds...then if i leave i get a loss against my name) and lots of being put on the loosing team (i went from 0.86 win ratio to 0.72 in one day).

That's one complaint I don't get. If you are joining a server/game in progress... you're no more deserving of being put on the winning team than the losing team... and in many cases the cards are stacked against the losing team so it only makes sense to send new blood in their direction. Who the hell really cares about your win percentage in a pub game anyway? Everyone knows you don't have total control over what team you're put on and what kind of scenario you enter.

Because winning = more points, i dont play to loose, and i dont really get why anyone would regardless of being a pub game or not. Its not only joining games in progress i was getting dumped on the losing team, often the teams have been stacked in the lobby, putting together teams of mostly prestiege 2 against new players in the 20's or so. Either way you would kind of expect the game to balance out into a 50/50 scenario, but its far from that. It even dumps together teams that have won previous rounds by huge margins back together again, this is in ground war so i doubt they were all partied.
I just expect a bit of fairness in the game and not to be burdened with the loss when i inevitably bail out of a sinking ship that i had no control over joining. Used to be you could join a sever in spectator mode to guage whether you wanted to be part of it or not, thats another tradition thats fallen by the wayside.

What is this burden you speak of? Winning is obviously better than losing as you do get more points, but it's not like you lose points for losing. The fact that you would just quit because you aren't winning is pretty weak.

Yea.. but it's a pub. No matter how good skill matching gets in the future, you're still playing with randoms. I'm not gonna talk shit--some people would make fun of trying in pubs--but they're just full of shit. At the end of the day, you shouldn't get too worked up over losing random public games. I've been on team short bus quite a few times.. it happens.. there's nothing you can do about it. The worst part is when you're driving the short bus; when you have the only reasonable score on a team of negative kdr's and what not.. but still.. it happens. If you're stuck on a horrid team.. take a break.. come back.. kill noobs and feel better.

No need to ragequit and cry about it :P

Not that I think quitting a COD game should be punished btw... but then again the COD pubs I'm used to are 24 rounds of S&D.. and that can last a while.. sometimes you just run out of steam.

The fact you leave a game in progress for any reason is lame to be honest.

Its a game play to have FUN! swear since World of Warcraft most players have forgotten this golden rule.

Being gang raped by a bunch of campers who play the game religiously isnt fun, THATS why i quit a game in progress. Being somebodys punching bag isn't fun IRL or in a virtual world.

Not every game is designed in a way that leaving a game/session in progress is actually a bad thing... I guess match making sorta funnels you into structured scenarios where ragequitting is actually sorta a douche thing to do though. Just.. stick with it or put it down and play something else! I'm not saying quit, but sometimes some distance helps if you're (Tomarru) getting frustrated. And I wouldn't worry about people who play religiously... there are so many baddies (and I mean real scrubs) playing Call of Duty on every platform, that there's room for every skill level. If you get put up against a stacked team.. well.. learn to cope or try to even the score. Start partying with friends who you know will cover your six!

Thankfully im getting AC2 tomorrow so MW2 can take a back seat for a while. Its just was trying to explain why I quit games in progress, it's a multitude of reasons tbh, mostly concocted by a shitty matchmaking system that just seems to be able to push all my annoyed buttons, yet the game is still hugely addictive, stats and unlocks are a weakness of mine.

I know what you mean Tomarru. There is often times where you are in a game and if your team is so weak you can be trapped in some form of slaughtering hell.
I was on the submarine stage playing Sabotage and the other team didn't even try to arm the bomb for the most part, just camped. Guys were 32 and 3. It's all dependent on the situation. Times like that where people are obv being dbags you should be able to depart.
I don't play games to get angry either, I just want them to be fun and challenging without being cheap and frustrating.
A game where the higher your rank, the more advantages you have, is a system set up for some frustrations.

I'm done with this game. The MP has to be the biggest fucking joke I've seen since all these years of gaming. Either it has to do with me only playing on weekends or whatever, but this shit gets even worse the longer I play it. It fuckn' micro stutters even at 4 bars, and there is an increasing tendency of absolute lag matches. The dual shotguns are a fucking joke to begin with, so are the snipers (fuck me, it's worse than fucking Halo 2) so is the overpowered M16 and all those fuckwits running around with noobtubes. The icing on the cake are spawns and hit detection.

I'll gladly wait for BC2. Dedicated servers, balanced guns and vehicles, deeper gameplay mechanics, better graphics and sound. Too bad the dickheads at Activision have my money already...

What country are you in? I get a few laggy games, but no more than I got in GeoW2, Halo 3, BFBC, or 1943. Party drops and match making with large groups over 4 has been a pain but tonight was pretty streamless.

The double shotties are lame, as are some of the knife perks. Then again why not run a riot shield against shotties ... The M16 is way toned down according to everyone else I know who played 4. So far you want to remove snipers, shotties, the M16, and grenade launchers.

I played a lot of CoD4 on the PC, and I would summerize it as: all the guns are lethal. Map control is important as is taking good lines of site for shots. At 8 hours I am still seeing new maps and have only played a couple modes. But as I get back into it my KDR is rocketing up and things I thought were frustrasting before are EASILY countered.

For MW2 PC gamers, goto your config_mp.cfg file in \Steam\steamapps\common\call of duty modern warfare 2\players and change these settings:

seta cg_ScoresPing_Interval "10"
seta cg_ScoresPing_MaxBars "10"

It will change the green bars on the scoreboard from 4 to to 10 where every bar represents 10ms.. If you see 9 bars your ping is 10ms, 8 bars = 20ms, 7 = 30ms etc etc.. So the more bars you have the better your connection is to the host of the game.. You'll be shocked to seen how high the average ping is of people your playing with.. Last night I had several games where *everybody* except the host (not me!) had 1 single red bar, meaning everyone was playing with ping 100+..

Pathetic for any game in 2009 that takes itself serious as a PC FPS game.. Obviously MW2 doesn't.. Dedicated servers are simply required to offer a good stable low latency online experience.. They should have built in dedicated server support in their new matchmaking system (or the other way arround, whatever).. But I guess that was to much effort for only 10-15% of their total market, simply copying over the consolesystem was easier and cheaper for them.. To bad yet another PC FPS developer has lost it, that leaves only Valve as the last of the great FPS developers on PC.. For how long?

yes, everybody seems to be using these. last night every game i was in had someone using them. they are ridiculously overpowered, even at medium distance.
