I still don't get why we need a run button with analogue controls, plus its impossible to run and use the right stick at the same time.
But that doesn't save the control scheme

"I set a trap and you sprang it gloriously... now let's get this party started!"
I certainly won't be buying it.
"This is our decision, to live fast and die young. We've got the vision, now let's have some fun."
I can sorta see it from either side but the nostalgia for what resi once was still has the edge over me. I don't want to see the controls change anymore, I love the claustraphobic feeling of them, the fact you have to stick and move and can only really move forward or backward rather than sideways.
I just keep imagining what the controls would be like that everyone is craving for, the ability to move while shooting, strafing, jumping, ducking and then i see halo. I see the complete transformation of a once great and somewhat unique franchise into the mainstream action genre.
Problem is right now resi doesnt know what it is or wants to be, it wants the fast paced action of todays world along with the intricacies of its roots so it can appeal to both new and old audiences. Problem is, i don't think it will work anymore, the old crowd remain faithful to the nods back to the older games but we can see this huge transformation from what the game used to be like. The new crowd see an action game but just get frustrated with the inability to run and gun and just blast stuff without worrying about ammo or health.
Capcom need to seriously address this, they need to go one way or the other, give players an all out action game with las plagas infected running all over the place and the player with a chaingun. Or go back to t-virus infected with claustraphobic labs and burnt out streets and the player with a handgun.
They already mentioned about changing the control scheme months ago so it looks like the new crowd are going to get thier wish (especially with the demo outcrys) and we'll be even further away from the type of game that resi should be.
gives me and those who disslike the funky controls less to complain about.
the vid made me lol tho....apparently innovation = co-op and being able to move while shooting..haha
now as long as they give a propper spit screen option it should be worth checking out...thats if their "action" control scheme works how it should...heres hoping it does.
Marumaro for the WIN !!
I guess they had to do it so people like Korn would stop whining though.

I'm terrified by this shoehorning everything that looks like Gears into Gears controls. I'm baffled that's what people even want. Oh well.

Controls are considered dated now because it creates a different challenge for the player that they don't want to deal with it
as for the new controls making it easier?...im not so sure. it'll just bring it up to date and not feel like it was pulled from the 90's. the set peices, limited ammo/items and various enemies in high numbers should be enough of a challenge as it is without having to fight against broken controls. and as long as these "action controls" work as they should, that will now thankfully be the case.
but at the end of the day, its a win/win situation...you get to play with the crappy controls. people like me get to play the game with post-90's controls. everyone gets what they want. i'd rather have every gamer have the option of how they want to play rather then being forced to use something that doesnt work for them.
it's like killzone 2 and everyone wanting cod4 controls....it wasnt technically how the game was designed, but i appreciate the OPTION to ability use it if i want to.. and i sure as hell will use it, just like i will use this new control scheme for resi 5.
so what if there is a small possibility it will make the game easier for people like me who want a more up to date control scheme. that shouldnt mean diddly squat to you people since you arnt using it anyway.
as i said. win/win.

I love the old RE games, the problem here is that Capcom have taken half a step towards run and gun and its understandable that people aren't going to put up with clunky controls.
I can appreicate Capcom wanting to make the game appeal to the Gears crowd after all its a large demographic.
Im not sure why anyone is crying about this anyway, from what I can tell people get the choice, if gamers want to make it easier, Ie A character that doesn't spaz about when you try to control them, good for them.
Marumaro for the WIN !!
But try to understand people who jump in after not being able to play the previous Resident Evil games; it's a control scheme that is hard to get used to/enjoy if you are used to more "flexible controls".

Ps. Dead Space was scary.
Strange memories on this nervous night in Las Vegas. Has it been five years? Six? It seems like a lifetime.
These days if something looks the same it apparently has to play the same. If you don't like RE5 that's a great thing, that means someone who doesn't like Gears may like RE5 instead.
I dunno when gaming became so uniform. :(
Don't get me wrong, I don't mind a change and I don't mind new control scheme's but this doesn't feel innovative, it feels old, clumsy and slow....

It's pretty clear that a lot of people have no issues with the controls, and most people have issues because it simply doesn't play like they're used to.
I'm not just saying this in regards to RE, mind, it's a trend I'm noticing in gaming on the whole. Metroid Prime came out in a climate where Halo hadn't festered nearly as much as it has now in terms of controls, and a lot of people were still upset that Metroid didn't control like an FPS.
You'd probably hear comments like Prime's handling being "crummy" from those people, but hey the game is unique and awesome in large part thanks to its different approach to the gameplay.
If we're gonna service the big crowd that are uncomfortable skipping from one TPS to the next if they don't all play the same then we're in big trouble. Or rather; variety is.
