I wonder what went wrong with graphics. Splinter Cell series had always cutting-edge presentation and now it looks mediocre. I mean, even the SCC demo from 2007 looked better!

Looks great to me, most press hands-on are impressed also? guess i'll leave final judgment for when its on my screen and i'm blasting through it.

I don't know, I wouldn't go that far. It did some great things with lighting, but beyond that, it looked really crappy in gameplay and trailers. It's clear that Assassin's Creed has taken up the majority of Ubisoft's top talent and Splinter Cell may just not matter that much anymore.

I had hope for the first set of gameplay I saw and was pretty excited, but then afterwards it started looking prettty clunky.

Referring to the original 2007 version that started looking really clunky afterwards once we got to see more.

Yea, that gameplay video is one I've seen before, looks pretty solid. I hope everything regarding performance is more ironed in the final.

Big words indeed, time will tell.

Well after some extensive play today with the game's single player and multiplayer modes courtesy of Ubisoft, with a more recent build of the new Splinter Cell: Conviction, we can confirm that fans of the long running series are going to be well pleased with the package on offer, but more strikingly, we feel that fans of stealth or action games are going to be suitably impressed to the extent that if they've not got an Xbox 360 or decent enough PC to play it on would do well to jump on board and get a slice of the action. The game is really that good, and perhaps a little premature to say, but initial impressions indicate that this is probably going to be the best Splinter Cell game to date, surpassing that of Chaos Theory which was universally accepted as the best game thus far.

We're not allowed to talk about specifics of our hands on today, but will state that Conviction is now on our most wanted list for 2010 and sad to say, games such as Final Fantasy XIII, Mass Effect 2, Bioshock 2, Modern Warfare 2 etc are all going to take a back seat when Fisher returns to our Xbox 360. Stay tuned for our full hands on preview in the coming weeks, but until then, April 13th (US) - 16th (EUR) seems a long way off.

Well, you know, these guys have actually played it. And, whether it's better than the games in question or not, at least they're so impressed by what they played that they're prepared to make such a sweeping statement.

Those are some mighty big words, can the game really live up to all that? I, unfortunately, haven't had the privelege of playing Mass Effect 2 yet, but for even mentioning Mass Effect 2 in that group of games, the game better end up being half way as good as they are making it sound :)

You are indeed right blm, whether it's better than those games pretty much isn't the issue and, well, pretty much dependent on personal preference regardless, but the real take away is that it seems to have impressed them at least enough for them to go out and make such a bold remark, which should be a very positive sign.

I'm more shocked by Lebato's comment, personally. Didn't think the game, based on what was shown so far, would have excited him to that extent.
