I really don't think this is THAT bad though. I certainly don't think it's DMC2 levels of blandness because that was uninspired through and through I thought. You really need to bump up the difficulty here to feel like you're doing anything at all however. Sometimes it just feels like you're choosing how to beat people up as opposed to fighting to not have them beat YOU up. Because they in most cases won't even bother trying.
I wish I could muster enthusiasm for NG2 but I find it really difficult to do so. I think it's ironically to do a lot with how thorough NG felt in the end, by the time Sigma came out they'd basically created the perfect playground for its combat engine, a game that you could return to over and over.
I think I wanted a trailer with some intriguing plot points and more emphasis on the characters. I'm usually not too bothered, but I think it's sorely lacking in NG which is after all an action adventure at heart. The complete lack of humour or proper character exploration also means that the stuffy Ryu is precisely as stuffy as he comes across. Dragon Sword seems to do a better job on the narrative side of things which makes the omission in regards to NG2 seem that much more pronounced.
Sort of the wrong thread though I guess. :I
SPOILERS!!!!
After mission 11 or 12, can't remember which, Dante will free nero, killing "his holiness" in the process, revealing the science nerd as the true enemy who will then get some sort of super mega ultra demonic power and then the combined effort of Dante and Nero will beat his ass straight to hell. Now one of two things will happen. Either Nero and Kyrie has some love scene, possibly with a kiss and then Dante and Nero go separate ways OR Nero becomes a devil hunter too. Credit roll. The end.
NO MORE SPOILERS!!
I mean...sure it might be a decent game, but i think many of the high grades it's been getting is because of excellent presentation. The game looks great, sounds great, has excellent voice acting and is really cinematic. It's the dumbed down gameplay, the lack of Dante-crazy action and the lack of challenge that makes this game no more than mediocre to me.

The only thing the Devil Bringer can do is reach and grab, it can't change like forms, or unleash some powers to shoot, or something else really.
I am sure I will get dissapointed with DMC4, but hopefully not enough to say "ah fuck it, I am returning the game after I complete it".
If that's the case, then damn you Capcom.
The reason why they wanted Nero to be new in DMC4 is because it went to 360 as well, if that didn't happen, everything would still be around Dante and DMC would be another traditional DMC title, I am sure of it.
I say they should have explained DMC1,2,3 like an "attract mode" or in "theater mode" so the 360 owners knows what is going on with Dante, and then DMC4, yay!
I get the feeling DMC4 won't last as much as I expected to from the comments, features...etc. I am keep reading from people, not as much as NG has, that game has just tons of weapons, levels in the mission mode and what not.
But one thing that I wish that Capcom does is to releaseDLC with new levels, modes, weapons...etc. "soon" like they did with Lost Planet.
Ah well, everything will go down tomorrow for me when I pick up my own copy and play it.

I think it's a variable added to combat with as big an impact as a jump button, and it introduces a pretty major air game aswell where you can pull people up from off the ground into your air combo.
I believe a completely Nero-centric game would've fared better story wise too. I mean 3 is so good because it's all about developing Dante into what he *is today*, and that kind of origin story is a good basis for a game like this that is inevitably going to be very focused on the character you play as - his journey.
This is a bit of an X Files situation I reckon. I may be in the minority here but I think Doggett and Reyes could've worked out if the writers just let go of Mulder and Scully properly. Instead the remainder of the series was essentially spent chasing ghosts as the writers tried to build stories relating to those characters but without them being there.
I actually like Nero. I loved Dante and I loved Phoenix Wright, but I welcome Nero and Apollo Justice because they enable new casts, new directions, new drama humour action. In this case I think it would benefit every aspect of the game.
But it is what it is. It's really really pretty, it's still got some really cool cutscenes and I do like the Devil Bringer gameplay as it basically gets some God of War moves in there and sort of... well.. reveals how utterly shallow GOW's combat is I guess.. but that's not quite the point. :D Anyway, I think it's a nice game.. it's just that stars aligned when DMC3 was made, and the vibes this game let off early already had me prepared for a less significant entry in the series.
The Devil Bringer just reaches and grabs thats the only thing it can do, and well once grab you can slam them as a "hit" but nothing more.
Atleast in bosses we see more variety of attacks with the Devil Bringer, and once in Devil Trigger it gets more exciting, yes.
But we won't get any more new weapons, but with Dante its a wide variety of weapons, like Pandora's Box itself can shape itself to what 3-4 weapons of its own.
In cutscenes we see Nero wielding Yamato but I haven't seen or don't remember him using it in gameplay, unless its its in the Devil Trigger mode and the "spirit" is wielding it.
But I hope Capcom releases some content for atleast for Nero, weapon wise or missions...etc. I am not asking like right away, but in coming months.
I am just excited to play this game considering I have played the demo ALOT, and that was only a demo were Nero acted like a "rookie" of combos. And I have seen many combos and stuff in videos of the full version these days, so I can't wait.
But once Dante is playable...oh yeah! :P

On the bright side i got another weapon with Dante, a f*cked up (aka. made crappier) version of Beowulf from DMC3.

I read that you get to kill the same bosses, 3 times.
Capcom has not put so much thought into DMC4 as I thought :S
Ninja Gaiden 2...where are you!?

You are wrong
Mods, stop changing my SIG! I'm going to end up banning you!
But it depends from person to person if they enjoyed it or not.
Atleast I can return the game within 10 days if I didn't like it:P
However, as I am a action game junky, you might read this from me "omfg, bad ass game...dante!" :D
I can't wait for this fight on harder difficaulties, reminds me of Ryu vs Evil Ryu in NG, but Nero aint good enough :P

I went to GAME and when I said I have pre-ordered DMC4 for PS3, he took up a Collector's Edition for me, and I had a WTF impression on my face, considering I did not pre-order the CE.
He told me to give me 699SEK so I gave him the money (which was before he took up the copy) and, I asked him why he gave me the CE.
He simply said "your name was under the CE version of the game"...I said "okay...:S".
I asked him, how much it costs, and he said its the same price as the regular, he asked me "what you don't want it?" I honestly said "hell yeah".
So I got the CE version of the game with the same price that had the regular edition, so I thought, IF I decide to keep DMC4 in general, I am glad its the CE :P
So I rushed home, hehe, nice day.
PS. The CE do not have any special DVD, only a small artbook, no biggie.

MY God. What a monster I am. All Simon wants to do is to put that horrible incident behind him, and I keep bringing it up, and laughing uncontrollably at it.

The camera for the puzzle making is absolutely horrible. Sometimes it works decently, but then its all shit!
I am starting to get more and more combos and abilities on Nero, and I haven't gotten Dante yet...but, I am fighting this legendary son of a whore, and I can't beat his ass...I don't want him to loose either :P
I am playing Devil Hunterand I got no potions, nothing to go for if I die, however I do get a bit of points for upgrading.
But seriously, Dante is crazy difficault, the best part is that in the end he taunts like the fight was nothing for him at all, which quite cool to see.
My rating so far is around 7 and 8 out of 10.
The reason why around 7 and 8 is because of the damn camera and puzzle solving, but the rest is great.

But I wanted to go straight to Normal which is Devil Hunter.
Anyway, I am playing as Dante now...and my god the dude has so much complicated moves, that I always forget which style does what.
I guess it's good like that, makes me wanna play as Dante much more and learn a lot of his combos.
Dante FTW! :P
