Thank god. Lol. If you had to wonder around at the speed that guy was moving in that 40 mins of footage it would have driven me mad.
Fallout is basically unplayable for me unless you increase the world movement speed. It's a helluva game once you do, too.

Lets just hope the sprint in Skyrim isnt stamina based, but knowing how RPGs works, I bet they will add it.
If it isn't stamina-based then what's the point? They might as well just up the movement speed and be done with a sprint button - which would be the wrong move in my opinion.

I don't really agree that there should be infinite sprint in every game, but there's certainly a difference between having a quick sprint and just increasing the game speed.

I never found fallout to be a problem, mainly cos the world was smaller and more densely packed in terms of locations and stuff to find and explore. There seems to be vast stretches of nothingness in skyrim tho, and plodding across that would bore me to death. Sprint fixes that tho, so alls good.

I don't know how you're judging the density of the world from what little we've seen so far. You're walking through mud in New Vegas, even with the lightest armor--and there are no mounts--it sucks the life right out of the game. It takes entirely too long just to walk from one end of the strip to the other (and other relatively short distances). I can't stand it. I've noticed a trend towards slower movement in first person games. I guess people need time to line those sticks up.

Again, wasnt an issue in fallout for me since every 2 mintues youd be stumbling across combat oppertunities, towns, cities, shacks, ruined buildings, camps, characters etc. My patience isnt bad enough to get frustrated over that. But massive stretches of nothing, well, that's where my patience wears thin. It's why i thought the likes of far cry 2 and red dead redemption where boring as sin.

Well after watching the 40-minute video again, the sprint mechanic is definitely stamina-based - the stamina bar comes up at around 6:50 indicating that it is being drained.

I must have played a different game. There are huge stretches of nothingness in Fallout New Vegas, as densely packed as the wasteland is, and it can take a ridiculous amount of time to travel on foot between two of the closest fast travel points. And again, where you're getting the vast emptiness from is beyond me. We've seen, at most, 40 minutes of the game. If you venture 40 minutes from the onset of New Vegas you won't really get anywhere interesting.

Plus: Sprint, mounts, etc.

Speed was less of an issue in Oblivion than it was in either of the modern Fallout games. Once you play the game w/ higher movement speed (affects NPC's as well), it's basically impossible to go back. I'd rather my play time not be dominated by walking (at crawling speeds).

Well, good. Still doesn't change the silliness of equating higher global movement to unlimited sprint. Sprint generally disables a lot of other inputs.

In 40 minutes of solid travel you'd have found plenty of interesting locations. Thanks to it being so densely packed. And then once you found the location, you fast travel. I was never walkimg for more then 3 minutes between locations or combat, you was doing somthing practically every 2 minutes in fallout. As i said, my patience isnt shit enough to find 3 minutes that much of an issue. That massive area in the skyrim footage with the mammoths tho, that looked like a huge stretch of nothing to me. But you can just sprint across it, so who cares.

In the 40 minute demo, there were hardly 'stretches of nothingness'. Rather to the contrary actually; there seemed to be something round every corner.

I think unlimited sprint is a must, I mean this isnt CoD or something were it has to balance the speed of the game or whatever.

I dont want to sprint and stop each few seconds, I mean its a video game and not real life, a fantasy at that.

Unlimited sprint ftw!

In his head. Just like the immensity of encounters in New Vegas. Hell, it takes too long to walk from the entrance to Primm to the main building. Three minutes of walking in New Vegas is about as many meters!

Slow game is slow. You may be okay with walking through molasses, I'm not. Elderscrolls, even pre-sprint, gave you more options for faster travel. If you actually tried NV or FO3 with tweaked world movement I doubt you'd think slower is better.

Call of Duty is less concerned with realism than this franchise.. and that includes magic and dragons :)

That's not really what I was getting at. I'm not standing up for the game's movement speed - in Oblivion I tried to fast-travel as frequently as I could to counter such things. I was only saying that I think the sprint mechanic should be stamina-based, and that Skyrim's world isn't exactly barren (as KORN seemed to suggest). That is all.

I agree for the most part.. sorry that was a confusing post, since some of it was clearly directed at KORNdog. And fwiw, if he's happy with the speed and encounter rate in NV, more power to him. I just disagree.

I think that Oblivion gives you more options to counter that slowness. Mounts help a lot.

What I do disagree with is that unlimited sprint == higher global movement speed. That's not true. Sprinting generally comes with a handicap.. with or without stamina.

I understand limited sprint in Call of Duty (BF, Homefront, Resistance 3, Medal of Honor, SOCOM 4...unlimited sprint!) but fantasy games, especially open world ones needs to have unlimited sprint.
Even Horses has sprint now :)

If you fast travel to different places you will be missing out alot of hidden locations such as awesome dungeons, ruined shrines...etc.
I understand the stamina for attacks and blocks but the rest? c'mon now.

I hate it when devs limits my movement in a video game, unless they try to make it a gameplay feature like Demons Souls/Dark Souls (one thing that pissed me off).
But considering sprint in Elder Scrolls isnt a gameplay mechanic to difficulty I think they should add unlimited sprint.

But from what I saw from the video, when the player was sprinting I didnt see any stamina draining (might have missed it, saw the video only once).

I still contend that a lot of the improvement we see in Skyrim is the artwork. That's fuckin cool though.
