Yeah but you know, Final Fantasy was always about western stereotypes. I mean it's rooted - like Dragon Quest - in D&D. On the flipside, Transformers is adapted from a japanese invention, and the Gundam/Robotech/Macross thing is very essentially japanese. More importantly though, the reason SMT can be unique in the way that's unique is that it dares - and can afford - to be niche enough to look inward to actual asian mysticism and religion. Things that just aren't being explored a lot in the mainstream apart from maybe The Matrix. Final Fantasy on the other hand has a ton of mainstream responsibility to shoulder, and even its new elements and attempts at being unique have to be somewhat familiar and safe.

But yeah, I get your sentiment, but personally I kinda like the sillyness of this. I think silly is a stroke of japanese design that is inherently off putting to irony hating westerners, but for me it works out to be its own kind of cool. Bayonetta, Devil May Cry, No More Heroes - all relentlessly silly, aware of it and better for it. I think with this stuff, FF has a better jumping off point to really resonate better emotionally too, as opposed to just being a gloomy emo fest.

Hell, it's why I think Joss Whedon is a complete genious. The willingness to consciously do the silly so that it contrasts real emotional gravity instead of just becoming monotonous.

I realise that I might be reading too much into transforming bikes here, but these are at least my hopes in regards to how it turns out. :D

I'm a little confused after watching that, not sure if its good or bad, one things for sure after looking at FF13 it looks really bad from a graphical point of view :P.

As for the summons and SE going nutty, they don't have sakaguchi to keep them on the same wavelength anymore, there just isn't any consistancy in FF anymore and its really hurting the franchise if you ask me, pretty graphics will only get you so far.

39/40 good news but i'll wait for some western reviews to determine how good it is. I find this magazine a litttttttle bit rpg bias. I guess they are bigger in japan though. Im just waiting for a game to match ff7 ahhhhh i love that game

I think Final Fantasy's japanese take on medieval europe and its folklore approach has grown a little bit stale, and for me, going a bit nutty with these things earns it some personality.
I actually think Japanese take on European middle ages can be kickass, see Berserk or Claymore, it's just that Final Fantasy is doing the same thing over and over that was never good to begin with.

Nah I am guna wait I did think about getting it but I have found that playing through JRPG's twice leaves me feeling unforfilled.

1 because I don't know whats going on in the JP version and 2 when I play it again the excitement is gone.

I would love to sign up for the beta but I cant get pass the Square Enix code. No matter what and how I type I cant make the site accept it :(

Well I did that, and when I am suppose to continnue the progress, the password I enter it says I am using the wrong way, I keep changing so many times that I gave up.

I hope it's at least on par with Aion.. Aion isn't that impressive. The new lighting engine (like, brand new) does put it on the same page as more modern games though.

    Driftwood @Blackninja: je doute qu'ils osent modifier ce genre de choses, car le jeu original n'était pas construit sur de telles mécaniques. Avec un remake, tu dois penser aussi aux fans de la première heure. (il y a 1 Heure)
