One of the great surprises of the end of 2011 was undoubtedly Dead Island. On February 1, Techland will propose some new single player DLC where you will be able to play the role of Ryder White, the man you're in radio contact with during the story mode. We won't say more about this character though, as it'd be a shame to spoil anything to those who have not played the game yet. For 800 Microsoft Points and $9.99/9.99€ on PSN and Steam, you will find out more about his motivations and even discover more clues concerning the events which unfold in the main plot.
One can't say that the release of the PC version of Dead Island went unnoticed this week. For some odd reason, it seems a dev version was accidentally released and it took a few days for the game to be patched. It did not prevent players from complaining about the fact that it was merely just a console port, with no standard options like V-sync, anti-aliasing, etc. Using your Nvidia or ATI pannel can help fix such details, editing the game's video file but that's not particularly user friendly. Despite all this, the game is still a lot of fun and it is full of content. My biggest grudge is with the pop-up issues that feel completely outdated. Other than that, the game is clearly worth it to anyone who likes the survival horror genre. Here is a 1080p video in 60 fps (minus a few hiccups due to Fraps) to give you an idea of what to expect.
A paradisiac island, tons of zombies and a handful of survivors, that's the kind of cocktail you get with Techland's new game. After an incredibly exciting first trailer and a very disappointing Call of Juarez episode, the question was to know what type of drink Dead Island would be: vintage wine or jungle juice? Answer inside.
Update: Gameplay video added.
