GSY Tech PS5 Xbox Series X PC

To end our thorough coverage of the latest updates Resident Evil 2 and 3 were granted, we're showing you Resident Evil 3 on Xbox Series X and the impact ray tracing has on the game. It's still far from being perfect but from what we've seen, it seems to perform better than 2 overall. Obviously, our analysis is only based on the beginning of the adventure, but there is a visible improvement when you compare the results in the less "populated" areas of the two titles.

Because we never got the console versions of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, we had to turn to the PC ones to record some gameplay footage with ray tracing. We chose the highest settings for both ray tracing options (there is one for global illumination and reflections and another one for light reflection) but we recorded the following videos before the latest NVIDIA drivers became available.

The Capcom showcase which took place yesterday announced the October release of a Gold Edition of Resident Evil Village which will include The Winters' Expansion (also available separately). In this new content, it will be possible to play the main campaign in third person, some new characters and stages will be added to the Mercenaries mode and a new chapter will be added to continue the storyline as Rose Winters. This new content will ship on October 28 along with Resident Evil Re:Verse, a free multiplayer experience for those who already own Resident Evil Village. We were also told that the current update for Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 will be available today so players can enjoy 4K, ray tracing, high frame rate, and more specifically on Playstation 5, 3D audio and DualSense support (with haptic feedback and adaptative triggers). There was also mention of a certain Resident Evil 4 Remake, Exoprimal, Monster Hunter: Sunbreak and more. You'll find the available assets and the full press release inside.

Capcom announced that three Resident Evil titles will be released this year in enhanced versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Developed using the proprietary RE Engine, the games will feature updated visuals, including ray tracing, increased frame rate, and 3D audio to enhance immersion. For PlayStation 5 players, all three titles will also feature DualSense controller support with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Players who have already purchased Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 or Resident Evil 7 biohazard on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One will be able to take advantage of these enhancements at no additional cost through the PS4 to PS5 digital upgrade option or the Xbox Smart Delivery system. An upgrade patch will also be available for PC users at no additional cost.

Time for the last part of our Resident Evil 3 coverage with the introduction of the game we recorded in HDR. If you have missed the rest, we remind you that earlier this week we posted a commented video of the game in which we tell you what to expect from this new remake. It can easily be found on the game's page or in the Our Content tab.

Now that the embargo on streams and gameplay videos has been (partially) lifted, we can show you Resident Evil 3 in glorious HDR. To watch these, you will first need to download the files, copy them onto a flash drive before watching them on your TV, provided it supports HDR obviously. Enjoy!
Note: We'll wait until tomorrow to share the introduction of the game with you.

GSY Review PC PS4 Xbox One

A bit more than a year ago, Capcom brought back Resident Evil 2 and did it right, making not just fans happy, but also younger players who had never played the original. For a while the Japanese developers let people thing that they were just considering doing the same for Res 3, waiting to see if people would truly be interested, but it is clear now that the project had already been in the making. After completing the single player campaign, Blim and I decided to discuss the game in a commented video of our own. We hope you'll enjoy the super high quality of the following footage, recorded in 4K on the PC version fully maxed out.

How did we miss the info? Since December 24, our faithful Mirillis Action! has been HDR compatible, meaning it is now possible for me to record some HDR footage on PC. Before only davton could do it thanks to our Shogun Inferno and it was much simpler for him to do so on Xbox One or PS4 as he doesn't own as powerful a PC as mine. Expect to see more HDR content on PC then, which you will only be able to enjoy if you own a TV supporting HDR. To discover an extract from the Resident Evil 3 demo in HDR, you can either download the file and play it on your TV or check out our YouTube channel.

As planned, the Resident Evil 3 demo was released today on Xbox One, PS4 and PC and since we had a bit of time, we captured all of it in 4K on PC. For now, our RTX 2080 Ti doesn't allow us to maintain a perfect framerate but the drops are really minor and we've found out that scaling the resolution to 90% solves the problem entirely. The video was recorded in native 4K, hence the few drops here and there. The game will release on April 3 and by then we should have become experts when it comes to epidemics and confinement.

Here's the demo trailer of Resident Evil 3 to remind you it's coming tomorrow on consoles and PC while the asymmetrical multiplayer mode Resistance will get an open beta starting March 27.
