PS3

It's now my turn to upload a few videos from the Micromania Games Show. I still have a lot of issues with my new camcorder so they are not as good as usual, but they will have to do.
Update : Added a second video.

Why do so many of the videos not have sound, is there too much background noise?

DLing the vid now, motorstorm is something I have to see with every new video. :)

There was absolutely no sound from the game on the showfloor, so it would have been ONLY background noise.

That's strange. Anyway, the game looks great as usual, but it still looks a bit too slow. When you played it, did it feel too slow, or was it ok?

Looking as georgous as ever, all the game needs now is a little extra speed (or atleast acceleration), and that cockpit view, which would be THE sellingpoint for me.

Also, it's about time they show some new levels by now... :(

It all takes place in the desert, but the tracks will very, somesnowy levelswould be cool. But afaik, it's all in the canyon place. The tracks seem to vary enough though.

The game has plenty of speed, in case you didn't notice the player didn't use the boost much When playing I guess you have to balance speed versus control, which I imagine is what the player was doing in this video ;)

The gameplay seems like it will be quite a challenge - very rewarding I expect!

That would kinda suck, if it would only be in the desert, I mean, the desert isn't an awfully varied looking place, and I like to play in different looking area's from time to time, just to keep things fresh.
And that is what bothers me in other racers like Forza for example, if they're only on racing tracks, I tend to get bored rather quickly, I need that variation in enviroments to keep me interested...(others may not find this very objectionable though)...

True indeed, it's not necessarily the top speed, but more the acceleration that bothers me, it's just a bit to slugish at first...

Jato, my problem with that idea is that, all tracks in racing games are pretty much the same anyway. they don'tchange the gameplay by having it in different environments, they just "look different". With Motorsorm, they can't pull this trick, meaning they will have to vary the tracks alot to give variety rather than just changing the backgrounds. Get my meaning? It could be a good thing if they do, it would be bad if they didn't.

huh? We must be watching different videos then because the boost _is_ the acceleration... and when they use it it looks like the 'warp' rush you get from other speed freak games like ridge racer/wipeout

Yeah I know, offcourse the tracks in most racing games are in essence very similar (like for example in Toca race Driver) but the levels in Toca are often in new settings and thus keep things "fresh", if you see what I mean.
I speak for myself here, as many probably won't be all that bothered, but I really "need" those varied settings to keep me interested.

But yeah, with a game like Motorstorm which is set in the desert that can be difficult to realise, so I'm hoping they go all out on the enviroments and add some water, buldings tree's etc, even though it isn't all that realistic.. ;)

OK just watched the second video, and it seems whoever was playing didn't use the boost much - see the latest videos here instead to get a sense of the games speed: http://uk.gamespot.com/ps3/driving/motorstorm/medi...

Yeah, but I'm sure you can only use that boost occasionally and not everytime you have lost your speed.
For example, if you just slightly bump into someone, you obviously lose quite a bit of speed, and if it takes too long to get up to speed again, that can get annoying, that's pretty much what I mean...

Maybe as you progress in the game the vehicles get faster? Like ridge racer? Or they adjust it out so more boost is allowed? It's obviously technically possible as the boost facility is already there.... I guess they want to balance the gameplay and are still fine tuning it

Yeah, that's quite possible indeed, and it's no biggie really, just a matter of balancing things out a bit, they're probably still testing the waters atm, and see how the gamers think about it, I'd presume if everyone says the gameplay is slow, they would take notice of it and "fix" it..?!

I think about this way... just as all of SSX3 took place on the one mountain, all of MotorStorm takes place in Monument Valley. I mean, no one ragged on SSX for doing that.

I doubted the game when the first pre rendered video was showed

But i must say, the game does look beautiful

I still think they should've went for an extremely wet and muddy track, tyres muddy and throwing the mud everywhere to the vehicles at your back, your wind wipers going crazy, smudging and all.

Oh well, looks great!

I hope there will be a twisted metal black racer for the next gen....i mean imagine this game with guns!

Actually one of the best things with regards to Motorstorm is the realtime track deformation, and it looks really good too. A while back at GDC, I believe, they showed off a demo with one of the guys on a bike doing donuts near a parked trailor, and mud was flying and sticking to the trailor. I dont know why they dont show off the levels with the wet mud, but it will be in the game. :)

It would be really cool if there would be a modus for online in which your end would be over if you destroy your car, that would be very challanging :p

Saw a video from ign with sound..and it's a whole different experience.. the crashes feel so real and explosive.. It's almost shocking!

You can toggle the slow-mo on/off in Burnout. I'm sure there's an option for that in MotorStorm.

So that's what we've sunk to... complaining about slow-mo... Haloallday... :|
