Electronic Arts released this first trailer of Dead Space 2, and as expected it looks like it will be a good follow-up of the excellent first episode.

MUHAHAHA! I feel so evil! Does this mean Isaac is out for revenge? Could be like SC: Conviction. Awesome new enemy designs. Let's hope the enemy textures are better.
I remember seeing interviews with the devs, that they knew that was one of the shortcomings with the original, and that would strive to ensure that every game in the series afterward, did not suffer from a similar affliction.
Between the two, it really gives me hope that Dead Space 2, is going to combine everything that made Dead Space so awesome, plus a superior story driven narrative found in Extraction, and improve upon both as any good sequel should.
BTW, was anyone able to decipher the glyphs in the last frames of the trailer? Just curious as to what it said.

Dead Space had a simple but really effective story. It was more the moments than the plot. *SPOILERS* All the ingame storytelling was cool, like the doctor killing himself, the good doctor being murdered near the ship, Hammond losing out to a Brute. A guy with the most memorable death by the Baby Necro taking out his arms and then his HEAD! EEK! This stuff stuck with me.
Anyway, I hope this game's good, I loved the first one, but I heard they were amping up de action, hope it keep the mood...
I never really understood what made the first game so great though, the story was pretty crappy and the characters were lackluster at best. The gameplay was adequate but never all that thrilling and i really didn't find it scary. Sure the first time a monster jumped up and forcibly relocated my face to my ass i got startled, but after a while you sort of see the shitty jump scares coming, and after being molested (ie cut in half) a bazillion times by space mucus with claws all the tension went out the closest airlock too. If you expect to die a lot in order to memorize where the fuckers are coming from then dying is not something you fear, it's something you expect. Then again that's just my experience and since i played it on the hard difficulty maybe that is the reason i didn't enjoy it as much. I don't know...for me Dead Space 2 has to do something to really stand out, shooting tentacles off of space monstrosities just for the sake of it just isn't my thing i guess.
Actually my best experience with the game was playing it with a friend. We were at this really hard segment and took turns trying to beat it.
The story may of not been award winning. But the setting was faultless for me - you felt alone, you felt like you were on a ship, you felt pretty helpless, under prepared, and under powered.
Almost all the tension goes in Dead Space if you don't care about dying. Maybe developers should punish players more, but it's a delicate balance. If they punish you too much then they might just quit the game (Ninja Gaiden for me I'm afraid - I don't have the patience to get good at a game like that).
We are beginning to see this in games (bayonetta's one button approach, Fifa's 2 button)..hopefully that will be adopted more.
I'd also like to see games start adopting level skip options (with the consequence of missing out on the skipped level achievements). The amount of games i've never seen all the way through simply because i got so frustrated and stuck at a certain point is a shame..and soils a gaming experience for the player.
Also i just don't find this kind of "horror" especially scary in general. It's just jump scares mixed with a few poorly executed scenes with people going "insane". I agree that there is a certain feeling of isolation, but it is kind of broken by Ms. Scientist and Mr Space Marine radioing you ever 5 seconds to yell at each other a bit and the tell you what part of the ship you need to fix next. I really liked the bridge though, you felt truly exposed and fucked when standing on the bridge. That was the games brightest moment for me.
Just jump scares? Sucks to be you if that's how you felt.

This game was basically Event Horizon, although maybe not as twisted. But certainly as intense. I looooooooved it so much.
Especially for a first go with a franchise it was brilliant. To do something so well within the first game says a lot. The story was a bit predictable yes, but you overlook that for all the rock solid gameplay it delivered. It is rare when you get a game as polished as Dead Space was.
I also will say we should hold our opinions on the suit till we really see it in motion. Not to mention all the other suits that will come. Those who like the old clunkier version (like myself) might find that this new light suit gets heavier as the game progresses. We simply don't know yet.
I would bet that Capcom took a lot of notes after playing Dead Space when returning to Resident Evil.
I haven't played many games with main characters as being mad (hell, only one crosses through my mind), and I can see a hint of madness from this trailer. Also, I hope revenge is included.
And I agree with KORNdog, this suit looks pretty cheesy compared to the old rusty suit fit for an engineer like Isaac. I just hope it won't ruin the game for me.
