Trailer Xbox One

Microsoft and Crystal Dynamics have shared a new trailer of Rise of the Tomb Raider that gives a glimpse of what awaits Lara in her search for the Lost City of Kitezh. The title will release first on Xbox One and 360 this November then in early 2016 for PC and late 2016 for PS4.

Scope of the game looks very good - looking forward to tombs filled with traps and (hopefully) riddles... even if some treasures cannot pass beyond the Great Seal, for that is the boundy, and the price, of immortality!

The previous Tomb Raider was a great game but it didn't really get considered for GOTY because it came out the same year as Bioshock infinite, the last of us and gta v. Now, it comes out the same day as Fallout and the same yeas as W3, MGS V etc. I really hope it doesn't get burried with so many big games coming out this fall.

The game gives the appearance of being more open. This game is going to be awesome. I pre-ordered it already from the last video but this one just makes the wait even harder.

The last game was very good, just needed a better story. The fact that they feel confident going against Fallout 4 says one of two things.

This. I hope to achieve 4K with DX12 benefits, the last one ran fantastic on PC.

Uncertain if there will be true Dx12 features, it's to be seen. they said " On windows 10", for supported operating systems. one could only assume the dx benefits.

the last one ran fantastic on PC.
For it's time at ultra setting, not at all. And even to this day benchmarks are done without TressFX. the whole thing was disastrous in performance for the hardware at it's time. (GTX680)

Now with better hardware things are much different.

TressFx is in the same ballpark as Gameworks:
Fine if you want, show it off in some trailers, but don't annoy me with these vendor specific things that drag performance down massively for tiny details.
To finish this OT: Celeron G1820 and GTX 660 ran 1080p60 on med/high no problem.

I doubt if there will be a huge or conspicuous improvement over the XBOX ONE version, because game development is always constrained to how the prototype is, but judging from the trailer, it seems capable of a neck-to-neck competition with Uncharted 4, which is graphically decent.

Fallout4 is definitely a GOTY contender. Mad max got buried but I guess the game is not that appealing. TR will do good but since it is only on Xbone that could be the biggest problem. Microsoft had this to cover U4 as they both are very similar games. it is interesting though Fallout4, Witcher4 and MGS4 all are open world games

You can add tessellation to that. Whilst not the big resource hog that it once was, it still bogs down the performance of a game for such minimal returns. To this day, I think it's an almost completely useless feature, now especially that better mapping and higher end meshes are used anyway. The game ran great with that hair thingy and tessellation turned off on modest hardware.

i think tessellation only really benefits car games currently, but i think only GT6 uses it?. parallax mapping can achieve similar results much cheaper. character models are damn good now so don't need it. but racing games usually come with a huge photo taking community. and they like to capture small details so adaptive tessellation is great. plus it's the reason GT5/6's premium cars will easily hold up when used in GT7.

i mean, this doesn't hold up that well anymore in regards to materials and lighting. but the fact you can do this in GT6 is incredibly impressive...

Oh i definitely agree with a couple sacrifices made the performance would flawless 60fps . I'm just saying even for it's time, even the most advanced GPUs on the block had to make sacrifices as well.

But you're right though in the aspects of optimising, tomb raider 2013 isn't much of an issue compared to a game like the original Metro 2033. That game was more difficult accepting what you could get from it, for it's time.

Btw , tomb raider's tessellation applies to characters, environments, and water surfaces. If you increase your tesselation slider in your control panel, you should be able to effect the drawing distance tesselation activates, or at least the density of tesselation at distances.

Since we now live in a gaming community that is moved mostly by hype, if TR gets stella reviews and bundled with an XB1, it will move consoles. I think that is what this MS exclusivity is about. A Fallout Bundle is cool but that would not necessarily get PS4 gamers to buy an XB1 which is what MS is probably banking on TR to do.

Was going to mention adaptive tessellation. It certainly has it's uses, especially on hard surface models that have subtle curves, and on dynamic cloth simulations. The thing is, cloth simulation in games is also a bit too costly, so you get the pre cached low res stuff as a norm. Those screens do look very impressive. It looks like several iterations of a smooth modifier applied to the mesh, without the exponential increase of polys that comes with it of course. It only applies it to the curve where it's needed. It looks like a very high end mesh when it actually isn't.

The timing of tomb raider couldn't be better, unless you're a fallout fan but those two share nothing in common. After playing more than enough 3rd person sandbox action with MGSV, i think tomb raider made a wise choice going linear.

It's easy to rack up hrs of gaming in a sandbox, and all the side quests, it get too repetitive over time though. This game should break the ice among the larger games.

Yeah, i like to have a nice balance. After the tedium of MGSV i'm moving onto soma, then some tearaway, then probably fallout, then metro, then mad max. If i jump from open world game to open world game i go a little bit psychotic.

Right, and then there's just cause 3 from square enix, which is just some months away and will continue the sandbox blowout. The timing for some linear 3rd person action couldn't be better.

i think they have shown to much though now.
the game will sell well and people are already impressed.
i think some of those points are bits i would of liked to have felt walking round the corner and seeing the treasures or buildings underneath.

now they wont have that same BOOM effect.

looks great though, gutted MS threw so much money its timed for year, doubt i be able to wait and xb1 will be bought at xmas lol
