GSY Video Xbox One

Many Halo fans have been eagerly waiting for the release of the 4K patch for Halo: The Master Chief Collection, which has still no release date yet. Some of the hardcore fans have had access to the insider versions of 4 of the games (Halo CE, Halo 2, 3 and 4 - ODST is still not available but will be in time for launch) for a little while now, but now all insiders can download the collection and give it a go. Before you watch the videos we have prepared, remember it's still work-in-progress.

Halo 3 is still a wonderous looking game. But nothing beats Halo:CE the first time you get on the massive ground, defeat a grunt, a Jackal, even a banshee ... and then you get to Beam emitter and there comes the covenant dropshit full of Elites.

Good times.

Halo CE has aged horrendously. I couldn't even bring myself to finish that garbage within the MCC edition. Time has only emphasised how bad the copy/paste repetition is and no shiny paint job could distract me from it.

Much like Goldeneye on the N64. Good for it's time, but needs to be left in the past.

The Silent Cartographer, one of the best levels ever. Hope the new Halo game can catch some of that magic.

With Microsoft being more supportive of Windows/Xbox multiplats it'd be great to see MCC ported to PC. I never was much into series but me and my childhood friend had a blast playing Halo 3 co-op back in the day.

It wasn't magically less repetitive 17 years ago, so...yeah?! Never understood the hype with halo though tbh. I guess it had local co-op. So not a total loss I supose. Shame about that level design. Silent cartographer was litterally the only good level :/

You’re right Korn, all the millions of fans and hundreds of critics that rave about halo games like CE are all wrong and fall for the copy paste criticism you throw at these games. Definitely our problem and not yours lol.

Halo CE is like, legitimately a great game. Halo 3 is probably my favorite to play though.

The original Halo was superb back then, however the remake made by 343 Industries seriously fucked up the art direction in most of the levels and environments. Just look at The Silent Catographer, it even looks like a different kind of climate.

It's a shame because technically the graphical upgrade wasn't bad. They just should've stayed true to the original.
Considering they had just took over the series at that point, it just feels disrespectful really, IMO.

Agree, i wasn't super happy about the art direction of the anniversary edition. To be fair it was Sabre interactive who remade the game, not 343, so we should blame them :D

On the other hand. Halo 2 Anniversary looks nice and the extra detail especially in urban areas works great where i always felt the original H2 looked a bit barren (probably due to hardware limitations at the time).

I'm with you. It's not like I didn't try: played Halo 1, 2, 3, Reach, 4. Everytime I thought the game would have progressed to make me like it. But I wasn't able to finish any of the games. They are so boring with such an obvious AI system (side-stepping as if they are doing a line dance, going behind cover and sticking out for a second, if you pass an invisible line the enemies become active, when you withdraw, they go back to being inactive, ...).
The shoddy controls for driving (left stick to accelerate....). Floaty feeling.
I don't get it. I know loads of people love it. It's just not for me.
I guess this a case of "not my cup of tea" then. Nothing really wrong with that.

The difference being one of those studios has surpassed the other with the winner going into a completely different genre and nailing it on every single level. The other dev proved with another meh FPS that they were simply a one trick pony.

Are we talking about Horizon here? They far from nailed it on every single level if we're talking about the action RPG genre. Well, I suppose they got the action part right. Everything else, though. It's a good base to work from. I'll judge them on the sequel. If there is one. I know. There will be one.

It's a bit unfair to label Bungie a "one trick pony" as well, so long as that one trick does the trick and produces the results, then who cares. I'm talking purely about their MS only days, of course. They more or less established the Xbox brand to what it is (Master Chief is to MS what Mario is to Nintendo), and currently, like the Xbox brand itself, they've gone a bit shit, but with the way the industry has went (live services and all that bollocks) who can blame them for chasing that pot of gold? They aren't, and won't be, the only decent studio these days struggling to find a footing.

To be fair I did actually quite like Reach. Not sure what made that one any different though, I guess they managed to design levels better by that point with far less repetition...also no flood, which...honestly, who likes fighting those shitty enemies?? Maybe being surrounded by a cast that had a semblance of personality helped too? Not sure what it was really, but it’s the only Bungie game I think i’d be open to playing again.

I'd agree with maybe 60% of what you're saying. Mainly in regard to the campaign. At the time, even something like Half Life had a better put together campaign. That being said, we can basically thank CE for bringing shooters to consoles with a control scheme that makes sense. Before CE, just about every console shooter was a mess. Also, as not good as the campaign is, the multiplayer was great fun at the time. At a friend's house we would actually system link 2 xboxes that were in different rooms and would have teams in each room. Back before xbox live took off, it was a blast.
