MY GOD... I am so excited for this game that I barely can wait for the game anymore .... I have had to stop myself from watching anything since a month ago and it's killing me... May 14th cant come soon enough!
i watched the walkthrough over at GT, and while i sacraficed my media lockdown, it finally got me excited for the GAME. i was never sold on the gameplay, something about it didnt quite click, but seeing the walkthrough over at GT, i'm certain it's going to be awesome.

Alan Wake is definitely art, and is well written enough to keep my wife and I on the edge of our seats from beginning to end. If I can admit something, and give Alan Wake the biggest compliment I can bestow, I’d tell you that I had a nightmare about the game the night after I completed it. No horror game has ever managed that feat or even come close. It may have taken them five years to kick it out of the door, but Remedy has created a masterpiece. Alan Wake is a title that other companies will attempt to reproduce and emulate for a long time to come.

clearly you missed the front page comments when i said the facial animations where 'meh'

not like its a deal breaker or anything, im buying the ltd edition despite its funky animations

not if the lip sync is hand animated. but i supose you're right, the lip sync and facial animations are 'meh'

two different things, anyway the facial animations look fine to me, but lipsync issues will jar me.

Seems like Eurogamer may not like Alan Wake very much eh? Guess I can't really be surprised, considering they didn't like Max Payne either. Didn't they review it like it was one of the worst games ever produced?

Its been a long time since I saw that review, but I recall the game being absolutely ravaged.

I totally believe the lip sync issues, I've seen it now in so many videos. There are moments, however, where it ends up looking fantastic. I'm guessing too much work had already been put into the game with their already very limited staff, that it may have just been too much for them to go back and change the facial animations to match with whatever voice adjustments that were made to the game's story.

Because that's just about the only reason I can come up with for why the syncing would be so off. They had different dialogue in the story, and then perhaps the writers decided to make subtle changes to the story, which put Remedy in a bit of a bind with regards to facial animations they had alreafy finished making, but maybe decided to prioritize the rest of the game over those.

So in short: Incredible graphics, intelligent story, some tearing and abysmal German voice cast. Though, he also mentions that the English VO will be included. Thanks MS, finally! This might make it a day 1 purchase after all.

I'm still waiting for a good review from Ellie though, she goes off on tangents sometimes that don't explain the score at all. Or if they do, she's really paying attention to the wrong things sometimes.

Reviews are pouring out and it looks like people like it alot for the most part. Seems to be anywhere from 70-95ish...so apparently this is a very divisive game.

Well, a 7 is not bad. Averaging 85 % of all media critics isn't bad. But, let's not kidd ourselves, Remedy were aiming for a LOT higher than that. Seeing the development cycle and funding invested in this game, I doubt Remedy will be like: "Well hey, a 7 out of 10 ain't bad."
No fucking way. This game was aiming to compete with the best of the best, anything less than an averge of 90% is a disappointment for them I'm sure.

From my point of view, I see a lot of hypocrisy from gamers. When the review scores coincide with their view, those scores are being used as the main argument for why the game is so good, but when a game gets scores they don't like, it's all of a sudden irrelevant and reviewers are evil beings.

I'm still getting Alan Wake based on my own impressions of the game via the vids I've seen. I've enjoyed games that have gotten average, or even bad, scores before, so this won't stop me from enjoying it. But I still think it's fair to say the game doesn't seem to live up to it's hype.
