haha one funny thing I forgot to mention. I unlocked the master sergeant rank in battlefield 2 last week after like 4 or 5 years thus unlocking the last two remaining guns for the ammo man.

Took way too unlock weapons in BF2, I actually bought Special Forces mainly to unlock the flash nade and grief plane campers but it turned out it had the best maps...good times

1280mb, and yes, I considered that pretty heavily. The 6950 is $70 cheaper (on the high end--comparing two Twin Frozr III boards for example) and has a 2gb framebuffer. The fact of the matter is that the GTX 570 simple has more raw power though. The 6000 series catches up in crossfire, but one GTX570 is considerably faster than a 6950 in a few key games (including battlefield!) and that performance carries over to SLI (although the 6950 starts to catch up in crossfire). But yes... nvidia's strange vram configs aren't the most appealing thing in the world. Even the GTX580 only has 1.5gb.. but you're still not finding anything faster.

nice nice! I bought the wrong CPU!! now i will be stuck for a while, hope it holds up for Battlefield 3

That's crazy. It took me over a year and 340 ish hours to get to rank 50 in BC2. Unlocks are ok since they force me to use different weapons but they should be quick to unlock.

yea it took me a year to unlock stuff in Bad Company 2...much better than BF2. Without Special forces it would have taken forever.


I think my play time was same for both: 300-350 hours

Phew, my OC'd GTX 285 is roughly the same as a GTX 460. I really hate nVidia's numbering system.

I think having a card with the most VRAM is the "major thing." The game is jam packed with technology...shadows look super high, the object detail looks super high (haven't seen any pop up in any of the vids), the motion blur, the shaders....yea 2gb vram ftw

I will wait for the game to come out to see how my gtx470 can handle it. Them I will decide if I should upgrade or not. I might upgrade to the nvidia 600 series or ati 7000 series.

I agree, mostly. I just think that Frostbite's superior performance on Nvidia should be noted. They also chose to demo BF3 on GTX580's (single)--a card with 1.5mb of vram. @1080p there aren't many games that are going to fill that space anyway. If you're gaming beyond 1080p (or 1200), it's a deal breaker for sure.

HD6950's are still pretty easy to recommend. They're sitting in a pretty sweet spot at the price.

I was pretty sold on GTX 570 SLI. I wound up buying one right off the bat though, and I may wait for the beta before I bite on the second one.
