You mean Battlefield 2: Modern Combat and that game wasn't even similar to BF2 on the PC. It wasn't a direct port.

This. MC is essentially Bad Company 0.

But certainly, this has less to do with system power and more to do with game design. BF2 still wouldn't work on consoles. Yes, 2. Not because they couldn't run it, but because the user interface and gameplay is so squarely built around a keyboard and mouse that it would need a complete overhaul. We can't honestly believe that BF3's design isn't influenced by consoles. All this, "true sequel" stuff is just marketing.. there's plenty of Bad Company in my BF3.

It looks more like a hybrid of old and new.

Battlefield 2 could work on consoles but yea they would have to redesign the interface. I hope they revisit the old BF games down the road. Personally I would love to get a proper HD remake of Battlefield 1942 with modern shooting and hit detection mechanics, updated graphics etc etc.

Problem is; this kind of stuff is not a great business opportunity for a studio. I mean they would need to put in a lot of work to essentially release a game they already made before and which would probably only be bought by people who were fan of the original.

Especially trying to justify this to the management/share holders is next to impossible since you aim at not the whole market but just a share of fans.
They would rather throw down more money and make a totally new game which in theory could be interesting for a larger share of the market (more customers = more sales)

Not that I'm saying I wouldn't be interested, hell I'm with you! But I can't see that happening any time soon.

Well Dice is EA's bitch so it won't happen yea...but if someone like Valve had released Battlefield 1942, they'd be constantly updating it and it would have been a free to play game by now.

Dice/EA really suck, Battlefield 1942 SHOULD be free to play by now and they should be actively promoting it, instead of making shitty games like that cartoony battlefield browser game. Dice even dropped the punkbustter support for Battlefield 1942 making it very difficult to play online anymore. :/

I hope Valve never sells out to these big video game publishers like EA or Activison

BFBC2 still looks fine so BF3 cannot be worst but PC version make console bad. It is probably running at low settings.

They don't charge for every game...counter strike source, left 4 dead or portal don't have that stuff

plus those hats are purely for cosmetic purposes and the weapons are dropped randomly or you can craft them or trade them. Only stupid people buy weapons from their store

Every free-to-play game on the planet follows that model. And I'm plenty happy for the TF2 team that they've managed to pull this off. The game went to hell a while ago anyway (and yet, is still one of the best MP games available!). People who are upset about TF2 going free-to-play after having purchased it are fucking nuts. The amount of value that I got out of my OB purchase is insane. I'm happy that more people will get to try what is a fuckin' fantastic game. There were too many items even before the store opened :P

And there already is a free-to-play version of BF2 (and a spin-off game that's always been F2P) and they both sorta suck. But don't claim EA hasn't given us the same treatment. That's unfair.

Is CS1.6 free? Hell. TF2 is Valve's first F2P title! EA has a bunch!

to troll and annoy, yes. with misinformation, no. here is a little information for you. the tanks in BF3 are regenerating but if it take to much damage it wont move anymore but you can still shoot. who said i mean the graphics Fire.

PC version is dx11, so its like real life. Console versions looks like videogames. You can actually feel the area when you play it from your fancy office chair. Not to mention the immersion you get when you play with headphones!

I'm usually not one to say this but- Nice try. That footage is so blurry it's difficult to see, but the difference is pretty dramatic, IMO. From poly counts to shaders, to effects, shadows, lighting, resolution, and textures/materials, hell, even animation- the console footage (PS3 so far, but there's no reason to think the 360 version will be any different) doesn't stack up. Alone the console stuff shown so far looks good, but these machines are showing their age more and more, and I for one eagerly await the Next Generation.
I am actually now at the point where my PC's capability is outweighing my preference for couch/tv/ surround sound. I never thought I'd see that day, honestly...
