Who is bashing consoles? It's not the consoles fault, nor is it yours, most likely. Popularity, however, can certainly sour quite a few things. Take your example, the music industry. I want to see artists I like succeed--always. There's a difference between success, however, and selling out. That's what Call of Duty did. That's what many a franchise do, and they do it to appeal more directly to a larger audience. Your pop music example in the "What's up" box actually supports this position. Call of Duty was not always a "pop" game. The masses will never be the best or brightest segment of any audience. And an exclusive club? Please. Anyone can buy a gaming PC, and anyone can play this or any other game on it. I welcome it. I encourage it.

And yes, consoles are easier and more convenient. That's largely why they represent the mass market.

I like consoles plenty. I do think that some games play much better on the PC, thanks to various input options, mods, servers, competition, and if you have the hardware.. performance. Those are cut and dry things. I like those things. Design is naturally a more subjective thing.. but it's my opinion that you simply don't get experiences like BF2 or the upcoming Red Orchestra 2 on consoles. Ease of use, and ease of entry are far too important.

As for the other issues--installations (i like running games off my SSD, thanks!), technical issues, etc etc.. they are equally undeniable. That's hardly a deal breaker for me, when I see the experience as being far superior, but I can see how it's prohibitive. Even a console port like BC2 is just better on a good PC. You can argue that it seems "very equal" on Xbox, but I hardly think that BF3 (a game that's already being a little watered down for that audience) will be anywhere close to equal. It can't be. That's not an insult. That's not bashing. That's just the breaks.

Personally, I think console-only gamers are a little too sensitive to the subject. If its your position that a game is much better on the PC, then suddenly you're bashing their platform of choice. If you want to play the game on an Xbox, more power to you.

PS. GRAW sucks.

Thanks.. tried to watch something similar earlier and it was quickly removed.

That guy doesn't seem to know what he's on about.. DX9? Since when does this game even use DX9? Destruction will be better in retail? I doubt it. That seems like a bit of a major piece of game design to stick in last minute. I'm sure other levels will have better destruction show pieces though.

I wonder what his specs are. That's already running pretty great.

Yeah I was kinda confused by his mention of DX11 making a difference with the destruction in the environments.
Also agreed on the other stages. That level doesn't really have any buildings in it. Or it's just a portion of the actual level. Just one open courtyard/park area.

It does seem odd that the bridge isn't destructible (although he was only using small arms). In Bad Company you could destroy everything, so I don't see why not here...

Is this Bad Company? Some of these set pieces are a lot bigger than BC2 (the big ass buildings you can't enter, for example) and the maps in general are not only larger but more densely packed with stuff. It's a different game, with different limitations and different design. It's as simple as that. Destruction does seem to be toned down. I can deal with that.

I don't really want it toned down either, but I think we need to see more maps to make proper judgement.

Destruction is what has made Battlefield even more special compared to other shooters. I don't want it to get toned down in any way. Seemed to me it was going to be brought to an even higher level from the trailers we saw.

Silly. Of course it's not Bad Company, but it IS the same developer with a newer version of their own engine. Bad Company is still a Battlefield game even if it isn't BF2 (which I still can't get running on my Rig, dang it- I really want to play it). Both games are DICE's legit babies no matter what BF2 Purists may think. They were trying new things, and it's pretty easy to see the work they did on BC went into this game. I think this game will be awesome, but BC still had massive levels with destructible everything. That being said, If the Devs feel they don't want it to blow up that's fine, I was just saying that everything went boom in the previous games games and there is no reason for it not too unless DICE felt it would hurt the game-play...

BC2 Vietnam has no destruction. MoH uses frostbite and uses no destruction. I don't really see what your point is. They probably had to scale it back so they could scale everything else up.

I'm sure it was worth the trade.

I'm not sure if it's worth the trade.

I'd rather the destruction get scaled up to allow for even more unique scenarios in a firefight that haven't been seen before. Otherwise it falls more into more of the same.
That's just me though. In a genre that's polluted right now with very little innovation, it makes the destruction in Battlefield that much more important.

Never played 'nam- didn't look very good to me, and that sucks that there was no destruction in it. I do wonder if it was made by the same team though- the vids gave be a distinct impression of BF 1943(XBL game) which I didn't like much( although mastering the planes was a fun challenge).
MoH was a different franchise that wished it was COD.

To be clear though, I would rather have all things destructible (Loved being at the end of matches that were completely obliterated, lol) but as long as it still plays nice, I'll be fine... As long as I can still blow holes in walls...

Vietnam is awesome, and since this already looks 10x better than BC2 I don't know how it wouldn't be worth the trade.

TBH all destruction did was make me sprint to into a sniper when it collapsed anyway. Now I'll be able to go AFK for weeks.

But seriously, after playing BFBC2 and seeing footage I don't see how this can do any wrong.

Can't agree there. I think Destruction adds tremendous gameplay variation and strategic consideration. It's one of the many reasons I loved the BFBC games...

While that is true it can take away a lot of the strategy if done wrong. Destruction in BC2 practically leveled the playfield in some occasions. I played a lot of Arica Habour matches that were ruined by the destruction. At some point all buildings collapsed by the midpoint of the game, as a result the whole gameplay, the purpose of destruction collapsed.

I'm not really going to take one side or the other on this issue. I enjoy games with absolutely no destruction, and it's only recently become a trademark of a spin-off of the core franchise.

The game will speak for its self.

Yeah, while it looks awesome when it's all flattened at the end, I defintely support leaving some essential buildings leaving a structure behind (although it's rare to level every building)...

I'm pretty sure it has more to do with BF3 being a console game. They're clearly targeting a mass market audience. And no, those days are definitely not over. Red Orchestra 2 comes out in August.

Be there.
Well we are pretty much talking about one and the same since the reason for putting it on consoles is the same reason I speak of.

Sure, but I completely disagree that it put an end to military shooters with that sort of depth.. RO2 looks amazing.

Anywho.. downloading the alpha. I believe there's an NDA, but that seems have been mostly thrown out the window, hasn't it?

I don't have to worry about the NDA cause the game won't even work. My PC is capable of running this on low. Probably medium as well. The game just crashes after a short period of time. Happens on my friends machine too and his is better than mine. Frustrating :(

It is an alpha.. you sorta have to give them the benefit of the doubt here. I'm actually quite pleased with the games performance so far. Very cool.

Yep, random crashes out of the game here as well.

But you know, it is a alpha so this is the sort of thing they are giving us to try out and report before the release day.
I am sure alot of people have reported this issue in the forum to DICE.

I get a decent good framerate on low and medium as well, still looks nice though.

PS. I thought the way you start the game was weird, through a website, thats a first for me hehe.

Of course I know to expect this type of thing. I mean its frustrating because the game is fun when it actually works for me. Yeah, I'm not too keen on the website launch thing. I do presume though that the full game will function like a regular game as well.

Randomly invited to the "alpha," which I guess is over on the first anyway.
