Which sounds silly but is actually a really great idea. It would satisfy the 2142 itch too :D
Currently playing: Bad Company 2(PC), Mortal Kombat(PS3), Starcraft 2 (PC)
....but Battlefield is better to milk.
I'm still pissed off about the silly Sony deal. The PS3 gets Armored Kill next week. What a friggin' stupid thing.
Disenfranchised Battlefield fans seem to have put all of their hopes and dreams into Planetside 2 anyway.. which is wise.. ya know.. all those eggs, one basket, etc.
BF3 is a pretty jacked up game but it murders BC2.

I dunno.. guess I don't share the love for BC2. As many problems as BF3 has, BC2 is just duller and dumber. I've got a Carl Gustav and an M60 to prove it! The only thing I really miss from Bad Company 2 are quads and jetskis. I haven't been playing for a couple of couple of weeks, but I may try to drill through a few ranks while there's some double XP going for premium players. That 100th service star is in sight.
Unless I go tool around in Planetside 2 or something instead.
I realize everyone is doing it, but I thought DICE were competitive to the end and took pride in being different.
Maps got shrunk and vehicles felt like less of a priority. Granted the expansions have been changing that.
What a beautiful game it would have been to marry the old with the new in some sort of balance.
The scaled back vehicle combat is also very much informed by Bad Company, and very much expanded upon too. Bad Company 2 is full of maps with a sparse collection of armor and transports. Try to find a BF2 map restricted to dueling APC's. How that's the influence of Call of Duty, I have no idea. Also: They are the best Helos and Tanks since BF2. The BF2 maps alone are better than anything in Bad Company 2.
Infantry is much better in BF3. I guess that's COD's fault. Shame.
Different strokes I guess. I just don't see what you're actually missing. Other than destruction.. which is still a major component of BF3, albeit toned down. If I were going to blame anything for the state of the franchise it would be the existence of a console version of BF3 at all. The Xbox and Playstation are the reason we're getting a new entry into the core series this quickly. The masses would gladly buy a new game every year.
Less of the new and more of the old would only make BF3 better.
It's pretty clear that you've made your mind up some time ago, but I see no more obvious a Call of Duty incluence in BF3 than I do in Bad Company. Heck.. BC2 is the one with the physics-free arcadey guns.
So I wonder... what FPS are you guys playin or looking forward too? There's no real need to stay on topic since I'm the only one who would actually want to talk about BF3.
BC2 may have a sparse selection of vehicles, but it was more of the focus in the Bad Company games.
That difference is enough to change a great deal of the core experience in the game.
The lack of destruction (pretty much entirely, which is a major difference to game play and strategy) and a shift in focus is what drastically changes the game for most people who enjoyed the Bad Company series.
And no. It is totally not more of a focus in vanilla BF3. BF3's tank on tank action alone is better.. and Bad Company helos are a damn joke.
Sounds like you really just wanted more Bad Company in the first place.
Still love BF3 though, and look forward to seeing what they do with 4...
Oooh, Profound, isn't it?
I played BFBC2 for a LONG time. Longer than any fps in recent memory, because it was a blast to play with my friends. We'd always find new ways to fuck around and do stupid shit.
BF3 is just a really serious game? If that makes sense. (I'm drunk right now sry)
The knife was an obvious issue, but I blame consoles for why that happened and never changed. Same with helos too. They sacrificed so a controller could handle certain things.
And I don't mean to make this a stats discussion.. but are you ARTinks? 'Cause he's put like 30 minutes into tanks and even fewer into aircraft... I'm not sure how he formed an opinion about BF3 vehicles that actually has any substance ;)
Sounds to me like you haven't actually tried to enjoy BF3 very much. If you haven't spent more than an hour in vehicles I don't think you really know what the game actually has to offer. That's not to say that you need to have abundant experience with something to dislike it.. if it's not your thing than so be it.
I do use them, when I can get my hands on them. Half the time they get taken out before I can utilize them well enough. I felt like I could use them in a more strategic and real-world way in BC2. Tanks were scary, but you could still take 'em out. I also thought rush was much more fun and strategic with having the MG emplacements and the general map set-ups.
I also really, really miss having a way to screen my movements with smoke.
I do love flyin' me some jets though- even if I still suck at it.
Oooh, Profound, isn't it?
Oooh, Profound, isn't it?
I bet there's a bunch of stuff in BF3 that you have't seen :D
BF2 smoke grenades were better, since you carried them on your belt and had 40MM frags, and a frag grenade! Oh.. and the flashbang from special forces. I don't think I actually want flashbangs in BF3, but it'd be interesting. Tear gas would be cool too. It was sorta cool in SF, but I bet they could improve on that quite a bit.
Oooh, Profound, isn't it?
In BF3 as a conquest only player I tend to gravitate to city maps since the action is a lot more dense. Very few "full sized" maps in BF3 are actually fun to play on consoles. Caspian Border and Oman have great action and flow, but Kharg Island and Op Firestorm are rarely ever fun. Damavand Peak and Metro are great rush maps but completely fall apart in conquest...
That said I'll be switching to PC this fall. Not for BF3 since there is really no reason to support DICE in their abysmal patching policy but mainly for Planetside 2. The game looks very promising and gets a lot of praise from youtubers I follow.
