Giant Bomb had the best idea on how to make Bad Company distinct and viable. It involved time travel.

Which sounds silly but is actually a really great idea. It would satisfy the 2142 itch too :D

Not that I'm happy about the rapid release schedule.. Just that the idea that BC2 was better than anything other than BC1 is crazy. :D

I'm still pissed off about the silly Sony deal. The PS3 gets Armored Kill next week. What a friggin' stupid thing.

Disenfranchised Battlefield fans seem to have put all of their hopes and dreams into Planetside 2 anyway.. which is wise.. ya know.. all those eggs, one basket, etc.

I had way more fun in BC1/2 than I've had with BF3. I enjoy the graphical leap, but not the destructive drop. Bad Company for life. +10

Apparently you don't like far deeper movement, gunplay, and vehicle design either. How anyone would want to go back to the awful movement in BC2 is beyond me. And the guns? LOL LASERS.

BF3 is a pretty jacked up game but it murders BC2.

The destruction from BC2 was def missed in Bf3. It was such a huge part of the enjoyment for me that when it wasn't there anymore and only on some objects it felt like a step back.

But do you really want to go back to the stiffer movement and dull gunplay in BC2? If they put more destruction into BF4, what would be left to distinguish Bad Company as its own thing?

You shotgun motherfucker.

I dunno.. guess I don't share the love for BC2. As many problems as BF3 has, BC2 is just duller and dumber. I've got a Carl Gustav and an M60 to prove it! The only thing I really miss from Bad Company 2 are quads and jetskis. I haven't been playing for a couple of couple of weeks, but I may try to drill through a few ranks while there's some double XP going for premium players. That 100th service star is in sight.

Unless I go tool around in Planetside 2 or something instead.

My excitement for a BC2 influenced Battlefield sequel was for not, they decided to take cues from COD instead of their own franchises.
I realize everyone is doing it, but I thought DICE were competitive to the end and took pride in being different.
Maps got shrunk and vehicles felt like less of a priority. Granted the expansions have been changing that.
What a beautiful game it would have been to marry the old with the new in some sort of balance.

Oh bullshit. Most of the design decisions people most complain about are taken right from Bad Company! I think that's the irony here. Most PC players think this game is already BC3.. and Bad Company players don't know what to think.

Again, bullshit. Level design in BF3 is very much informed by Bad Company, and BF3 has several gigantic sandboxes. So you've got the Bad Company influence, expanded upon. There are a few Bad Company 2 maps I really liked though. Panama Canal. Oasis. They'd both feel right at home in BF3.

The scaled back vehicle combat is also very much informed by Bad Company, and very much expanded upon too. Bad Company 2 is full of maps with a sparse collection of armor and transports. Try to find a BF2 map restricted to dueling APC's. How that's the influence of Call of Duty, I have no idea. Also: They are the best Helos and Tanks since BF2. The BF2 maps alone are better than anything in Bad Company 2.

Infantry is much better in BF3. I guess that's COD's fault. Shame.

Different strokes I guess. I just don't see what you're actually missing. Other than destruction.. which is still a major component of BF3, albeit toned down. If I were going to blame anything for the state of the franchise it would be the existence of a console version of BF3 at all. The Xbox and Playstation are the reason we're getting a new entry into the core series this quickly. The masses would gladly buy a new game every year.

Less of the new and more of the old would only make BF3 better.

The only legitimately Call of Duty-like thing in BF3 is Close Quarters, and it's fun as hell.

It's pretty clear that you've made your mind up some time ago, but I see no more obvious a Call of Duty incluence in BF3 than I do in Bad Company. Heck.. BC2 is the one with the physics-free arcadey guns.

So I wonder... what FPS are you guys playin or looking forward too? There's no real need to stay on topic since I'm the only one who would actually want to talk about BF3.

I wouldn't say infantry is better, I'd say it's just more of the focus in this title, which is part of what puts me off. To me that focus is more generic and standard.
BC2 may have a sparse selection of vehicles, but it was more of the focus in the Bad Company games.
That difference is enough to change a great deal of the core experience in the game.

The lack of destruction (pretty much entirely, which is a major difference to game play and strategy) and a shift in focus is what drastically changes the game for most people who enjoyed the Bad Company series.

Infantry is MUCH better. Movement is much better. Gunplay is much better. Bad Company 2 is clunky as hell and has dumbed down guns. Oh.. and that lol-worthy knife that locks on from 10 feet away in any direction.

And no. It is totally not more of a focus in vanilla BF3. BF3's tank on tank action alone is better.. and Bad Company helos are a damn joke.

Sounds like you really just wanted more Bad Company in the first place.

I miss Bad Companies Gun emplacements. I also thought they had a number of great maps, and it was intense as hell. I definitely didn't think the weapons were "lasers". Hell I felt like I had to lead my targets a lot more than BF3. Not to say I don't agree that the infantry elements aren't vastly improved. I still had more fun with BC2. Of course, I absolutely miss the destruction from BC2. I also had much more fun in the vehicles in BC2( driving and fighting them).
Still love BF3 though, and look forward to seeing what they do with 4...

They aren't hitscan but they have no drop (except snipers). You can also tap out shots (all headshots heh) with the M60 from across the map with no recoil and no drop. It's pretty bad.

After I played BF3, yeah I did. Because I felt like they left too much of the destruction out as well as some other elements Froz is mentioning. All the vehicle play was just more fun like he's pointing out. The game itself was more fun too.
I played BFBC2 for a LONG time. Longer than any fps in recent memory, because it was a blast to play with my friends. We'd always find new ways to fuck around and do stupid shit.
BF3 is just a really serious game? If that makes sense. (I'm drunk right now sry)

The knife was an obvious issue, but I blame consoles for why that happened and never changed. Same with helos too. They sacrificed so a controller could handle certain things.

I dunno.. I've played some Bad Company 2 (about 280 hours, just checked). I think the vehicle combat is pretty poor. Heck.. in those 280 hours.. I've spent a whopping five hours in tanks. Seems like infantry was plenty big a deal in BC2.

And I don't mean to make this a stats discussion.. but are you ARTinks? 'Cause he's put like 30 minutes into tanks and even fewer into aircraft... I'm not sure how he formed an opinion about BF3 vehicles that actually has any substance ;)

Sounds to me like you haven't actually tried to enjoy BF3 very much. If you haven't spent more than an hour in vehicles I don't think you really know what the game actually has to offer. That's not to say that you need to have abundant experience with something to dislike it.. if it's not your thing than so be it.

I do use them, when I can get my hands on them. Half the time they get taken out before I can utilize them well enough. I felt like I could use them in a more strategic and real-world way in BC2. Tanks were scary, but you could still take 'em out. I also thought rush was much more fun and strategic with having the MG emplacements and the general map set-ups.

I also really, really miss having a way to screen my movements with smoke.

I do love flyin' me some jets though- even if I still suck at it.

They're for the M320. They're just like the 40MM smoke grenades in BC2, except the smoke is better.

I bet there's a bunch of stuff in BF3 that you have't seen :D

BF2 smoke grenades were better, since you carried them on your belt and had 40MM frags, and a frag grenade! Oh.. and the flashbang from special forces. I don't think I actually want flashbangs in BF3, but it'd be interesting. Tear gas would be cool too. It was sorta cool in SF, but I bet they could improve on that quite a bit.

Really the only thing I miss about BC2 are some of the maps. Arica Harbor, White Pass, Laguna Presa, Panama Canal (up there with Karkand in terns of diversity and fun) and Op Hastings of the Vietnam Expansion. Maps that have a healthy mix of infantry and vehicle gameplay.

In BF3 as a conquest only player I tend to gravitate to city maps since the action is a lot more dense. Very few "full sized" maps in BF3 are actually fun to play on consoles. Caspian Border and Oman have great action and flow, but Kharg Island and Op Firestorm are rarely ever fun. Damavand Peak and Metro are great rush maps but completely fall apart in conquest...

That said I'll be switching to PC this fall. Not for BF3 since there is really no reason to support DICE in their abysmal patching policy but mainly for Planetside 2. The game looks very promising and gets a lot of praise from youtubers I follow.
