Anyone here still play Battlefield 2? I installed it yesterday and already had two exciting rounds of play! What a great game

I haven't in a while. I thought about reinstalling it but it's a pain in the ass. This is when the convenience of having a game on Steam comes in handy.. when the game you want to play is in a box somewhere and on several compact discs. Between the initial install and Special Forces, it's all a bit of a hassle.

yea I agree grift! First install the three discs, then download & install patch 1.41, then download special forces, then install patch 1.41, then download & instal patch 1.41...took me several days to do all this :P

but I kinda wanted to play it so it was worth it

I installed BF2 a couple months ago, which was a pain in the ass to begin with. And then Punkbuster completely fucked me up and I gave up. Fuck I hate PB, hope they don't use it in BF3.

Did you manually update PB? It's sorta a stupid easy thing to do.

I will never understand people's collective complaints about punkbuster. If you ever have an issue, 99% of the time pbsetup.exe resolves it, and it keeps cheaters out.

I did patch it but it still didn't work. My attention span for problems revolving around the PC has sunken rapidly in the last 6 years (practically ever since I'm gaming on the 360) and today I just can't be bothered with this crap.

And that wouldn't be such a bad thing (for console), as BC2 has some of the best graphics out there (fighting for first place, IMO, considering everything the engine does)...

Yeah BC2 has some of the best atmosphere and environments you could hope for in a shooter. This looks like it just raises that bar even more. I heard it'll be 32 players now on console as well, so 4 more on each team. I agree with Grift kind of. I don't expect it graphically to look that much better than BC2 on console. Especially with them upping the server limit.
Environments and animations however will be much improved

On a side note. Heard they brought back some of the original 1942 guys to work on this in some form? Pretty awesome
