I think I prolly spent 10% of my time with Forza 2 actually racing.

They need to hook blim up with some damn access to this game, because look what the "premiere" HD streaming site puts out.

They make it look close to forza 2 or worse.

I watched it, and I have to be honest with myself here. As awesome as this game looks, how cars belong to the same environments they race in, how awesomely detailed the tracks are, how an absurd level of detail was put on the tires of cars, I just don't think this game looks very photo-realistic. We'll see if PD nails a more photo-realistic look at the end of the day--or century, whenever the game is out there--but I'm inclined to believe (based on the little we've seen) GT5 will have the edge in this area.

PD has an amazing ability to take techniques and to balance and hone them to look great. Artistically they are awesome and they make great use of budgets. FM2 is a classic example of a game complete unbalanced whose art made the sum look worse than the potential.

Well, to T10's credit, Che did say the video posted above was not captured during a replay. It is as true as gameplay as it gets. That's the reason we don't see any motion blur, or extra AA which always help during replays.

Neither game look photo realistic tbh, GT always uses a lot of cheap tricks, photographed textures, 2D trees, low resolution shadow maps etc. That said they get a nice balance and get the absolute most from what they use, they seem to be able to balance light and shadow just so damn well, i guess its because they had to do that from the ps1 days with much more limited resources.
Forza is more technically impressive, but theres still the whole surreal experience to it, especially on the brighter tracks. They have improved the lighting immensely, but it is still not quite real enough on brightly lit tracks, it is still way too bright and the colours of everything just looks candy like, and artists impression on reality, an artist who has no black. The cockpits aswell should be much darker in shadow, its something GT does well, sure it makes it a little harder, but its more realistic, you go into an underground carpark, under deep shadow you aint gonna see much in the car but in the GT vids the shadow is only marginally darker than the base colour of the dash.

I hope by the time FM4 comes around they hire a few more artists that are aware how things look in different lighting conditions, either that or they start using photographed textures.

Yeah of course, neither looks photorealistic. And GT does have some horrible looking tracks, lacking in detail, tons of ugly and repeating textures, etc etc (historically at least--yet the Tokyo track we saw seems to have much of what I said). I think both have their pros and cons. But obviously we haven't seen much of GT5 yet, so that's why I said we'll see.

But anyways, here is the first ever 720p gameplay on cockpit view. It looks amazing, and soooooooo smooth. I really like the reflection work on the dashboard.

A new announcement expected to come tomorrow. Probably they will announce tracks such as Fujimi Kaido, the worst kept secret of them all. I'm sure it'll look beautiful given the looks of the Montserrat track.

Have to agree with Acert, artistically PD is just in another league.

Anyway the announcement is held in Paris (well I guess it'll be there, since they are having a press event there). Blim will be there (at least he said so ;) ), so hold your breath for some high quality direct feed gameplay footage.

Okay, this game looks amazing :D

Just saw new gameplay video.

When a game looks that good, and runs that smooth, I could care less about photo-realism. You guys see how impressive the building architecture looks off to the right? The shadowing, the textures, the windows.. :D

Then the cockpit reflections was a nice touch as well. The game looks fantastic, and if it looks like this on my crappy pc monitor, I can't wait to see it on my HDTV :D

The game does indeed look amazing, the backgrounds and horizons are looking incredible throughout the game.

I love the reflections on the dash and the game looks so smooth and fast!

I still wanna see more though, keep gettin good vids then bad vids and the bad ones are more often than not the ingame ones. There was just something off about that gameplay clip, not sure what exactly it was but i was far from impressed, the new trailer on youtube though, wholly amazing, even the "gameplay" clips (possibly replay). I dunno, the 720p gameplay clip, the car view just seemed like the car was a toy again, it looked small and weedy perhaps its just that type of car but it was far less impressive than stuff like the veyron vid.

It does look quite good, i'm happy to see that we've got reflections that isnt going higher than 15fps this time around. I dont know why but for some reason i dont get any sense of high speed at all with this, or Forza 2 or GT5: P. I get more sense of speed out of PGR or shift aswell. Will still be getting both this and GT5 so i can become a car collector!

Xbox 360 owning racing fans won't have to wait until October to get their hands on Turn 10's upcoming sequel Forza 3, with Microsoft having today announced that a playable demo will be coming to Xbox LIVE on September 24.

The demo will let players get behind the wheel of five cars on the full circuit of the game’s Camino Viejo track. The demo includes five playable cars:

- 2007 Porsche #80 Flying Lizard 911 GT3-RSR
- 2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro
- 2009 Ferrari California
- 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR
- 2009 Mini John Cooper Works

The demo will also support official leaderboards for lap times.

Microsoft has also confirmed that the game has now gone gold and is on track for an October 23 release across Europe.

Was hoping for a demo, cause I won't buy Forza 3 day one. Good shit. :) And yay for the Flying Lizard Porsche, my favorite GT2 class car.

edit: Has this been posted yet? I especially like the LMP1 cars bouncing off the road when they turn the corner, love the work they've done to the suspension system.

Well, at least for the AI drivers.....who knows about the rest. Anyways, on the Ford GT Dyno video, at 9:49 seconds, the AI driver in the Subaru changes gear and you can see his arm moving. Can someone please post this in GAF and whatever other forum already takes it as a fact that there is no shifting animations at all?

If there is no shifting animation for your driver it'll be awkward for sure, and stupid considering there is nothing to them. We all know the stick shift is not moving, or even being touched, we don't care, we want the animation anyways!

EDIT: I just realized Che confirmed no shifting animations in cockpit view. Bummer.

It's indeed an amazing trailer. Obviously, you are amused by Youtube quality, and some awesome editing. I simply see nothing in that trailer, as far as graphics go, that I didn't see in either the gameplay, or the Veyron clip. Obviously, composed of replay footage, there a bit more AA, blur.

The trailer was linked in the whats up section hours ago, thought everyone woulda seen it there. Yes, i am amused by the awesome editing and the youtube HD quality, possibly because it hides the defects that become apparent during the high quality ingame footage. What i see there is much more accurate lighting models (certainly looks darker than in the gameplay vid, check around 40 secs on youtube), better detailed cars and no chance to notice the dodgy shadow under the car like in the hood cam portion of the gameplay clip.

Can't wait for the demo, be able to see it with my own eyes without having to consider possible encoding issues.

FUN FACT: The entire intro video with the Challenger taking off at the end was captured in-game and not during replay. Basically, we detached the camera from the back of the car in 3rd person view and scripted it to do flybys and choreographed moves. These are essentially in-game graphics with no added AA, etc. We had considered doing a CG rendered intro video but felt confident that the game looked good enough to just do it all in-game in real-time.
