I don't really see a problem with some cars having full interior damage vs some that don't. I'm not expecting to see insane visual damage anyway so I doubt this inconsistency will have that big of an impact. In terms of premium vs standard, I think visually/graphically the cars are still rendered with the same detail, it's just the varying amounts of damage. I know in forza3 I can never seem to get the bumpers to fall off on some cars while on others they drop off pretty easily and you can see the car frame/subframe.
The original statement was that premium cars will have full damage and standard cars wont have any damage (A couple of Scratches are not damage), so were no just talking about interior damage, were talking about exterior damage too.

The exterior damage seems to be limited to flapping doors and bumpers with slight deformities, which I don't see as looking drastically inconsistent with a car filled with a ton of scratches . It's not like seeing a damaged car in burnout versus a damaged one from pgr4.

It's sort of the same in forza.

There's just mainly paint removal and scratches with barely any deformities for the Bugatti Veyron. You see some small pieces flying off but you can't even tell after looking at the car again. Other cars actually have the bumpers flying off.

I hate the fact that in Forza you can't see the interior of the cars outside of the in-car camera. Now imagine a race/replay where all cars look like your regular Forza car, but one of them, for some random reason shows a fully modeled interior, and substantially more detail overall. Well now you got a retarded situation, I don't know how this wouldn't boggle the mind of anyone out who appreciates consistency at all.

And again, this isn't about damage, it's about the looks. I also wouldn't mind just some cars having interior damage, that I can believe is hard to do for all 1000 cars. Of course none of this is confirmed, and there was no mention of damage, it was all visual difference including more details and interiors.

And yes, like I said, the cars in FM3 do have some differences. Some do look better than others, and some do have slightly harsher damage. Visual differences are standard in racing games, its always been this way, and as you have more cars it's natural to have some slight differences in quality given the fact that cars are done by so many different people--in forza's case they are outsourced. The problem here is the fact that we are talking about substantial differences, not minor as it would be the case with Forza or previous GT games.

Even in the smallest cases of visual damage in Forza 3 like the vid you posted, I see mirrors flying off, smashed windows, smashed lights and most importantly, I see deformation. From the looks of things, not even the premium cars of GT5 feature deformation, but thats another issue.

Yeah, that would be ridiculous, but how do we even know that's the case? Since it's polyphony I'm thinking "less detail" just means they won't bother to render the engine bay and such like in the cars that have full damage.

We've already seen some returning cars from GT4 that have been completely remodeled.

Like I said before, those are "barely" deformities on the veyron. It's still inconsistent with the other cars where you can see more damage.

I would just prefer they take out the shitty damage modeling in these racing sims and focus more on adding weather or day/night for each track anyway. But then there will always be people complaining about the lack of visual damage. :\

Yeah, no one knows exactly what the hell anything means now. The fact that any mentions of this stuff is always deleted never helps either.

Add to that, Polyphony almost always never clears anything up after they make certain statements either. I guess they don't really need to since the GT name is going to sell millions anyway.

I'm still confused as to whether or not each track is going to have a day and night version.

so? your point was the inconsistency of the damage in gt5. I'm pointing out there's also an inconsistency in forza 3's damage modelling.
Posted by Jin187
Yup, just like real life.
Real life has cars where their bumpers don't come off when colliding with another vehicle at 100+ mph? News to me.
Posted by Jin187

PGR4's visual damage also mainly consisted of scratches and texture replacements for broken windows. Sometimes you might see small dents. Doesn't seem like Bizarre concentrated that much on the damage modeling...

A complete racing game, specially the top ones should have all this stuff; good damage, great graphics and physics, lots of tracks, weather and day/night cycles. I don't see why they'd have to concentrate on one thing and forget another.

GTA-IV has way better damage, but the best I've seen sofar was in the latest Burnout game.. Damage in Forza or GT is very limited (sadly enough)..

What's weird about GTA IV is that it does a number of things you don't expect it to do, surprisingly better than what you'd expect for that kind of game.

I don't even remember what degree of damage is present in GTA IV, but I was fairly surprised by vehicle physics, as well as the feel of the shoot out gameplay. But, of course, I'm pretty off topic here :P

Yeah, that is true. GTAIV also has a much better shooting aspect than Forza does, I still don't know how that is relevant at all, and that's why I asked if that was a joke comment or what.

I'm not comparing games, just the tiny bit on cardamage.. Which shows the damage is still pretty poor in so-called sim racinggames like FM and GT compared to games like GTA-IV and Burnout etc which also have cardamage.. Since there are no technical reasons for it, the only other possible reason is carmanufacturers don't like to see to realistic damage on their cars.. Games like GTA and Burnout don't use real brand cars, so don't have that restricting problem..

Carmanufacturers should let it go imho, and let us smash their cars completly.. It's only a game you know, it's not real!

I still think it's wrong to compare them. I suppose I can talk down on GTAIV's car physics, or Burnout's lack of customization and real world tracks, because after all, there is no technical reason for it to be that way.

I say let's compare racing games that have more in common than just games that have a few to no things in common.

Yeah, but compromises have to be made somewhere, even for big budget games. If I had to choose I'd choose weather/day and night over the poor damage models we've seen in sim racers so far. It's taking polyphony 5+ years on GT5 and we still don't know if this game will actually include weather effects.

It has taken them so long I think because of the HUGE amount of cars on the game. Now that is something I wouldn't mind being compromised, I doubt I've seen all cars in Forza 3 as is, and regardless of what they do, there is always going to be "that car" missing.

I say chop the online component if all you have to offer is "matchmaking", chop the number of cars in half if you have more than 600.

And yes, weather hasn't really been confirmed, but I don't see why it wouldn't be there. Other than cars, I just can't see where the time has gone so far.
