This. Where art thou grassy fields? Flat 2d ewwwwww. I'm not talking Halo 3 grassy fields, I'm talking VGA Trailer grassy fields. :p Hopefully they will be there by the Reach Beta launch. I also hope those blades on the Falcons have that motion blur effect. In the screenshot in GI they have no motion blur.

Not everyone thinks Halo 3 has unacceptably poor graphics. Stuff like framerate performance and network performance is a lot more important to me. That stuff actually effects how a game, ya know, plays.
Halo 3's biggest eyesore was the aliasing - and the vast majority of people, i.e. those who don't frequent video game message boards didn't even care about that. Bungie have been far more explicit than they need to be about this being improved. On the whole, there is a noticeable visual upgrade in Reach, the only debate is to what extent.
Forgive me for preferring Bungie lose sleep over what the majority of their fans are telling them needs improving as opposed to meeting the whims of the minority who will find something to bitch about in the graphics regardless.
The way this industry is going Lebato, your graphical expectations are never going to be met. You might as well duck out now.

-They gutted the old engine and left "no component untouched" when improving it.
-Now players will look the same throughout multiplayer, coop and singleplayer (and the way they look will be customizable).
-Hints that there will be power drain and grav lift armour abilities..
-There is a 3d radar and the HUD can now highlight various environmental features and overlay information about them.
-Night vision returns to Reach (as seen in ODST).
-On the pause screen it mentions "grades and credits" but Bungie wont discuss them yet. Probably to do with the character customization system.
-The AR leaves smoke and sparks when it fires. Explosions have been completely redone for Reach. They are apparently, huge, dirty and lingering.
-Green marine monocle returns. WIN.
-Bungie were disappointed with the reaction of people to the halo 3 marine, so theyve brought back the flavour of the halo 1 marine.
-Mongoose return confirmed.
-Assassinations (by holding down melee) will feature in multiplayer and the instant assassination of past halos may not be featured at all. Bungie is using the Beta to decide how it will feature.
-Huge landscapes - but you can visit each area. In coop you may see your buddy fighting a long way off in the distance.
Teleportation is far less strict.
-Bungie is bending the Xbox as far as it will bend and really pushing the hardware.
-Tung says there will be some big surprises in campaign.
-The game features rain which will leave covered areas dry and vice versa.
-Elite AI has been improved a lot. They might be doing something like fixing a door and then something may attack them, but once they have dealt with the threat they'll go back to what they were doing before.
-"Bungie's not fixed on leaving the trusty BR out". The DMR has 3X zoom.
-Shield recharge not as fast as Halo 3's.
-Halo Reach's current build has a lot of computer generated audio used a place holders, meaning that the leaked beta menu footage may well be genuine.
-A few new screenshots in the article, the best being a double page spread epic view of the spartans in a cockpit. There is an artwork of Emile with a grenade launcher.
-Lehto admits that there was no generational leap on the animation side between combat evolved and ODST, but in Reach they will make them all look like the trailer(including facial animation).

If the levels/maps are as huge and epic as what I have heard, the lack of bar setting graphics is easy enough to forgive. But all of the sings that they are going back to combat evolved for their influence is a very good sign. I still enjoy that game more than any shooter this gen so far.
the less strict warping in co-op sounds great too, it was so frustrating when you'd just teleport to your partner once he got 5 meters a head of you.

and the warping was just an annoyance. you'd be trying to find a new gun that an enemy had dropped, your mate would run ahead and you'd just appear beside him. and you'd be left with whatever gun you had with sod all ammo...lol. i understand why they did it, so one played isnt walking for minutes on end just to catch up, but if made some of the more open encounters more restricted.
as i said, it's good to see them adressing it. especially if the environments are as large as they say. it would be nice to actually be able to split up and tackly seperate objectives/areas at the same time, rather then being connected at the waist.

I'm happy about the night vision mode as well, because Spartans in the books had these things, they also had a thermal vision mode, but I'm not sure if that will make it in.
I also like how Bungie is limiting each player to one or the other. It gives off the same vibe that one gets from reading the books, how certain Spartans excelled in specific areas.
Some Spartans were faster than others, Kelly.
Some Spartans were better when it came to spotting and detecting enemies, name of the Spartan escapes me.
Some were better in regards to raw aim and skill with a sniper rifle, Linda.
Some had superior instincts when it came to detecting ambushes, Kurt.
I like the way you think RC, EMP burst on your armor would be really cool, to say the least. Not so sure about the jetpack, however. Perhaps a small explanation of some kind of highly advanced anti-gravity technology built into the Mjolnir armor. You activate it, and the personal gravity of the Spartan changes drastically allowing them to take advantage of it in cool ways.

I'm just really anxious to read more about co-op options. Playing Halo CE co-op was pretty much the single highest point of gaming last generation. I really woulnd't mind it if Bungie found a way to re-create that sense of awe and co-operation for this gen
Bungie loaded up a test arena to showcase just how much improved explosions in Halo Reach were over those in Halo 3.
Direct quote is "There's a lot to this explosion that we'd never have been able to do in the Halo 3 engine. The amount of debris, the colliding particles, the amount of smoke that gets left behind."
"The more we had things blowing up and particles raining down from the sky and impact effects from weaponry splashing around the players, the more chaotic and visceral it felt."
I also love the sound of the improvements done to the Covenant weapons especially. They wanted to give off a really violent impression to a covenant weapon being fired and hitting home. They also wanted to give the impression that plasma was hitting it's target and also burning through whatever it hit.
