The first score of 33/40 turned out to not be accurate.

BRILLIANT then. Oh that's really good. so it scored better than Blue Dragon right ? or am I wrong again aghhh ? Blue dragon scored 35/40 on Famitsu Weekly which is the most important of the lot ?

Blue Dragon scored better, but that should be the least of our concerns as no score whether higher or lower can truly determine for us which is the better game of the 2 that is something for us to decide for ourselves. What really makes one game a single point better or worse than another? So I just don't worry about it.

Also I simply just love the vibe I'm getting from Lost Odyssey.

No Blue Dragon received 10, 9, 9, 9 from both Famitsu weekly and Famitsu Xbox 360 (37/40) What they seemed to be disappointed about with Lost Odyssey was that the lip syncing wasn't accurate which, as we know, is because the lip syncing of the game is done with the English Voice Acting in mind and they mention loadings, but the loads wont be much of an issue for me personally unless its truly excessive.

Famitsu Weekly is the most important one.

Yeah, I read that a few pages back. Well, they just have to let it go this time, we've been screwed enough before it's about time they get screwed in the Lyp Sync department hehe I'm evil, I know :D Oh come on give me a break, you're all secretly happy about it hehe :D

I'm guessing that scene with Jensen and the Lindsey Lohan's is the scene they showed off back at GC.

Later, we watched a cutscene complete with English voice-overs. In the scene, a man and a woman were standing in a secluded alleyway having a discussion. They were apparently off on a mission of some sort but were waiting for another person to show up. Soon, a very drunk man appeared from a door nearby, accompanied by three blond and scantily clad women. The man joked around about being needed for an important mission and eventually after some coercion was convinced to take leave of his female companions. The whole scene was quite funny, and the English voice acting sounded good. Apparently, although the game has a gloomy, somber look, it will have its share of humor as well.

Apparently there was an event yesterday where bloggers were invited to check out LO. Here are some stats.

From starting a new game to getting into the first battle: 10 minutes
From starting a new game to getting to the title logo: 42 minutes

(In this entire intro process, you cannot save the game)

Initial loading time when you start a new game: 20 seconds
Loading a save game: 3 seconds

Saving a game (pressing A at a save point, going through the menus, etc, and getting back to the field): 14 seconds

Random Encounter (from the point of the transition up until the menu appears): 12 seconds

After an encounter (returning to the field): 6 seconds

There are three types of loading in the game -

Short loads: 2 seconds
Normal loads: 5 seconds
Long loads: 15 seconds

In normal and short loads, you just seeing the Now Loading text at the bottom left of a black screen. In long loads, character design art appears in the middle of the screen. This seems identical to how Blue Dragon handles it.

Overall the game itself feels very traditional, but the customization systems make it rather interesting. Normal enemy encounters are pretty easy, but the boss is pretty tough.

There's something interesting I read on the Japanese LO wiki site. It seems that there's more than meets the eye to the battle system, even though it's a turn based system. While it doesn't use any ATB system, there's apparently a precise calculation for how turns go. You make all the selections for all your party members at the start of a turn, but in what order they carry out those actions depends on the action selected.

Here are some basic rules:

Defend -> Item -> Attack -> Skill/Magic -> Escape -> Row Change.

What this means is that why character that is defending, will always defend right at the start of a turn, before any attacks can be made. Next will be the characters using items. Next the regular attackers will attack in an order determined by their Agility. Skill and Magic casters will be next, but it should be noted that regular attacks against casters (which will always occur before casting) can delay or cancel such spells and skills. Next will be the escape attempt, and finally characters who which to change their row placement (front/back) will make their move.

Apparently it's also possible to change equipment while in battle, but it's no one is sure how it affects turn order at the moment.

Cool stuff.

It's a pretty cool concept that could end up making the combat a lot more strategic than it would be otherwise.

And remember the wall system is there to protect caster as they can be interrupted as they attempt to cast. Their attacks can be delayed or even canceled out completely. I can imagine how some enemies or bosses could end up affecting these rules.

Actually, that system could take a bit of getting used to, because basically you won't be able to use magic to heal before an enemy gets an attack in - healing magic will always come after. So you'll either have to use items in emergencies, or heal the turn before. Interesting...

Exactly! More interesting, because spells always come -after- regular attacks (and probably most attack skills), this means that for your back row casters, you'll definitely want to keep your Guard Condition high. If enemies can cancel your spells with certain attacks, that would be bad. I like how the entire system seems intergrated and is making sense from a gameplay standpoint now. :)
