SWEETNESS!
While Mass Effect 2's in-game DLC pipeline, The Cerberus Network, continues to transport new weapons (and soon, a new vehicle) to players for free, BioWare has announced the game's first pack of paid downloadable content. "Kasumi's Stolen Memory" finally completes Commander Shepard's dirty dozen, adding a confident female thief to your anti-Reaper repertoire. It's currently scheduled to launch for Xbox 360 and PC on April 6th.

After downloading the DLC, players can get in touch with Kasumi on the Citadel, either in the middle of an ongoing Mass Effect 2 game or after the completion of the main story (lesson learned from Mass Effect 1 DLC!). Once recruited, Shepard aids Kasumi on a secretive mission of recovery, which requires a suave disguise and a run-in with an influential and predictably corrupt art collector. The content, which also provides the "Locust" SMG, a flash-bang grenade loyalty power and a new Achievement, should take about an hour and a half to complete.

BioWare is currently in the midst of "internal discussion" to determine the price of the DLC, but we'll keep you updated as soon as it's finalized. Look for some impressions of "Kasumi's Stolen Memory" on Joystiq later today. Spoiler: It looks great.

The Port Observation on the Normandy is still locked so that's obviously where she goes. It sounds like she'll be an Infiltrator which is great, I don't need another biotic in my squad.

Anyway, more info...........
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/107/1076888p1.html

..........After getting her attention and talking to her about the task she wants you to do, she'll become a member of your party. So after you're all done, she'll take up residence on your ship. You can walk into her room, examine all the cool paintings she has on the wall, and fix yourself a drink at the bar. Like Zaeed, another added character through downloadable content, you can't actually engage in full conversation with her, she just talks at you as you wander around her room.

.....In all we're told it'll take about one hour and a half to complete, and according to BioWare plays out a little like a James Bond mission. First you infiltrate and mingle with the enemy, then you start shooting. Kasumi will fill you in on the mission details on the Citadel, and then you fly off to the location of the target's mansion, which turns out to be fairly lavish.

I won't spoil any of the specifics, but the plot does at one point involve Michelangelo's David.......

OMG it's Maaaaaaass WipeOut!

They tossed out the Mako and replaced it with THIS? Some kind of half-ass futuristic combat racer? Oh man, what the hell is happening over there at Bioware?! They really don't want to make RPGs anymore do they?

No wonder they're giving this shit away for free :P
Really? You're doing that? Really? You're really complaining about free DLC? Really? *walks away* *comes back* Really?

Im complaining about he paid DLC, unless its REALLY cheap. Why? Because it's already on the disk, all her dialogue and model has been readily available since the game was released, thats part of the reason why we knew it was gonna be DLC ages ago.

Welcome to the Gamersyde forums my friend.

Here you will find criticism ranging from brutally insightful to constructively comical. It doesn't matter if the content is free or not, it's all fair game around here ;)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNumDS_jHb0&feature... kasumi sound clips already on the disk, her pic is on there too. You can flame all you like, but large portions of her content was done by the time the game was released and is packaged on the disk, meaning that there will be a much smaller download and much less dev time than a proper addon.

I'm kind of surprised that anyone playing ME2 wasn't already aware of this, it's been common knowledge over at the Bioware forums for more than a month now. As it stands, Mass Effect 2's so called "free content" period is almost over and was never going to last anyway.

I know grim, I was just backing up my claims after doom decided to flame me for bringing it up. I don't mind paying for it, gives added reason to play the game, just as long as it isn't a rediculous price, 400 pts max.

400 is my limit for this too. But I am admittedly intrigued with the whole James Bond in space theme that Bioware is supposedly going for here. lol

As much as I love this franchise, I really don't feel compelled to buy any DLC for this game. I think the game is huge as it is. I would normally complain about giving away/selling content that's already in the disc, but seeing as to how much value this game offers, I can't really complain. I don't like the practice, but we are talking about a game that needs nothing else.

"This one does not have time for your solid waste excretions"

"He's got a lover in every port and a gun in every tentacle'

Those things are hilarious, especially the public apology to the Hanar Primacy over Blasto the Council Spectre. Right after apologizing to any Hanar who were offended by Blasto , the producers immediately begin trying to convince people to go out and buy Blasto merchandise. Apology and sales pitch all in the same message. lol!

But honestly, anything with that many tentacles and shafts named "Blasto" is hilarious without even trying.

Er no. That's not how game development works. That some assets (some of which clearly placeholder) were checked in as they started development of the DLC into the main branch of the code is irrelevant. The content, as it is being sold to gamers is/was not on the disc, stop trying to spin it otherwise.

If you want an open/shut case of content being unlocked by PDLC 108Kb tokens, look at Bioshock 2. This isn't it.

Bioware have been pretty clear at GDC that they spun a Mass Effect DLC team out of the main team and have them working concurrently. This was most likely set up as the game entered post-production as that's the most logical time to do it. That means they're working on DLC as the game is being polished & finished off. There's nothing abnormal or untoward about that.

Almost certainly, this add-on was planned from the start. Whether it's worth whatever they were going to charge for it is a matter for debate but lets call things for what they are.
