Six days after release, it looks like there has been a successful community dedi-server created. Houston...the Eagle has landed.

Inscrit depuis 6680 JoursI would say it's on par with the first MW's campaign. Whether it's actually better is up for debate.
Inscrit depuis 7372 JoursI'm sure it's possible to have that sensation with MW2 too if you're used to completely open Halo-esque fare games, but for me MW2 just works so much better than COD4 did and CODs before it. It's in subtle ways, like the way you always get to either take point, or the game leaves a proper window open for you. No longer do dudes just rush into a room with you knocked about by their animation. Instead - unless you're the one entering first - you have a guy that runs inside and the others wait for you to enter before entering.
That's just a tiny detail, but the game is full of those great choices gameplay/pacing wise, and for me it makes ALL the difference. I outright hated some parts of COD4 and merely suffered through others for the awesome moments that the campaign did provide, but with MW2 I was just fully immersed, totally engrossed.
I think MW2 is excellent, I easily rank it among the year's best. I could sortof appreciate what COD4 was doing, but gameplay wise I found it to be a restrictive, clunky, frustrating mess.

Inscrit depuis 7372 JoursWhen all hell breaks loose and you run from the cabin over the fields, enemies coming at you from all sides. You're being covered by Ghost - who at that point has been really well established in the game as someone you trust and like. Just as you think you're safe, Shepherd guns you down in cold blood, and you see how Ghost is done in too. This part kinda offered the initial blow, but the next part really drove it home.
Still alive, you see how Shepherd's men grab you by the feet and arms and lift you up, and at this point I thought you would be put in a body bag or shipped off or something, but no. They callously throw you into a ditch, where you tumble down, only to see Ghost be thrown down in the same way. The guys proceed to pouring gasoline over you, and they burn you alive.
During this entire scene, not only was there the palpable sense of betrayal and shock, but also the feeling of being subjected to such an "ugly" death. In movies when heroes die they die almost glamorously, but this was so sudden and it happened to "you" and this ally whom had been protecting you and kept you safe.
The music builds throughout the scene too, ultimately ending as they set you on fire.
I dunno why really, but it got to me in a pretty profound way, in a way to which I can only recall one REMOTE equal. Running towards the surface in Half Life 1, only to be shot at by the people who supposedly came to save you.
I think the things MW2 and even MW1 did with perspective and a sense of role is very, very powerful. I'm very susceptive to it at any rate.

Inscrit depuis 6752 Joursthe single player was a very mixed bag for me, the first half or so was pretty much completely forgetable, including the boring as hell airport mission, game picked up around the time you get to "play" some underwater espionage, and then kinda gets boring again at the end. it peaked mid way (kinda like cod4 and the all ghilied up missions) but cod 4 managed to offer a very good ending that gave you a little bit of closure, considering the game is barely more then 4 hours long, they could have EASILY finished off the modern warefare story.
overall the single player was ok. multiplayer is certainly where it's at tho, but even then it's not as fun or appealing as cod 4 for me.

Inscrit depuis 6680 JoursAs for your comments on multiplayer... well, I don't get that either. It's pretty much the same online game, except the maps - for me - are far better and more diverse (especially the airport one, which is my favourite at the moment).

Inscrit depuis 7333 JoursI started playing hardcore team deathmatch yesterday, and damn...that shit is FUN. I don't know why I never played it in MW1. I just love how it forces you to play more slowly and thoughtfully and how it's just far less hectic than other game modes. After playing a few rounds of that, I was able to get my k/d ratio up over 1 as I was getting per round k/d ratios of around 3 or 4, but then I had a really unfortunate streak that brought me back under :(
