All I was saying was, Activision were happy to drop it before. If they really wanted a PC COD3, they would have got Treyarch to make one. I can see it going either way but they clearly don't see the PC version as it stands as something worth investing in because they clearly haven't done so this time around.
How can you say that it "clearly" hasn't done so this time around without more data? Given how played Call of Duty 4, and now Modern Warfare 2 are.. it seems silly to assume that they're not profitable ventures.

MW2 peaked at 86,032 concurrent players on Steam today.. which indicates that they sold many more copies than that. Less than a million, still? Perhaps.. but it will easily break into the seven digits, which should be more than enough to make it worthy investment.

If that were the case, no game with any sort of budget would ever break even on the PC. That's clearly not happening.

But they haven't invested in the PC version have they? They've simply ported the console version across as they see fit and built IW.net to replicate the console match-making APIs. (Though there is more to it in the future than that I will wager). That's not an investment, that's doing the minimum required.

Why they have chosen this path is a matter of conjecture. I'm inferring from what the publisher's actions are, not how viable it may or may not be in practice because we don't have data, like you say.

Activision are interested in scale & big numbers. I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise me if they dropped the PC SKU if this one did horribly. There are plenty of reasons however, why they would still put one out regardless, so like I say 50:50.

According to Robert Bowling, IWNet represents the biggest investment in the games PC history. Doing the minimum would have actually made a lot of people far more happy! Integrating IWNet and burying features probably cost them more time (money) than leaving in features that were already part of the COD4 code. I doubt it would even cost them much to patch that stuff in, if they actually wanted to (they don't).

No, no, I mean it. Far less camping, way more frantic... and well, it's easier for me to dominate. ;)

On the other side, the respawns are HORRIBLE. I can't tell how many times I killed someone, he instantly respawned just a few feet away from me and killed me. It also happened the other way around, too (spawned directly behind someone who killed me quite a few times). Pretty entertaining, depending on which side of the barrel you stand in the end.

The spawning in this game is beyond ridiculous. The other day I got killed by a turret, and guess where I got spawned? Yep, right in front of the turret and got instantly killed. And the funny thing is, I had never been spawned at that spot before, I don't think I've ever seen anyone get spawned there, but somehow it decided to put me there that time. :|

And the amount of times someone spawned right behind or beside me is countless, it's really REALLY pisspoor.

I'd rather play S&D with *no mics* in a pub than the utter random shit that is team deathmatch. TDM hasn't been good in a single Call of Duty game.

FFA has always been my favourite, and that's pretty much the case in MW2 as well - although, I do love the one where you have to either capture or destroy the Intel.

FFA is great practice.. it keeps you on your toes and the fact that there's always someone at your back is expected. I love FFA Quake/UT too. It's great reaction training.

TDM in Call of Duty is just the illusion of a team gametype. It's basically FFA with friendly targets. The spawns ruin it.. it's literally one of the worst implementations of team deathmatch I've ever played.

And that's not even considering the random campfest.

S&D, HQ, Sabotage.. all significantly more fun and rewarding. I suspect CTF is too.

LOL. No. The PC version is still the definitive version. According to Robert Bowling (which means.. ya know.. that this could just be made up!) The PC version even outsold Call of Duty 4 in its respective first week.

What does hating TDM have to do with hating IW? I am discussing the game. TDM would suck on dedicated servers too :P

Discussing hacks, performance, etc.. also discussing the game.

I'm not really interested in repeating myself anymore. Everyone knows that I think IW sold their gaming souls to Activision.. but if there's relevant discussion about the game that I feel I can take part in, or information about the PC version that I think is interesting.. then I don't see why I can't post it.

I'll try to be nice and pretend that death streaks, air support, and unlimited explosives are awesome though.. if it makes ya happy ;)

Death streaks pretty much have no bearing on how a match plays out. Air support was in the first one...now there's just more variety. Unlimited explosives requires the use of a perk, so you may be sacrificing something else that'd be useful.

Air support was pretty lame COD4 too. I prefer.. skills for kills.. ya know.. like shooting people. So far as explosives are concerned, it could use three perks for all I care... you would still have people running around with limitless noob tubes. Tubes don't remove a perk any more either.. so if you're coming from COD4.. it's not tremendously different (apart from the unlimited ammo!) is it?

Now that there's no user control over game types, this game desperately needs a "no perks" play list... no perks and limited attachments. Ideally you could use a more limited subset of perks or attachments in custom games too... rather than the tweaking being limited to "no perks" or "all perks."

No perks may not seem appealing to the masses, but I don't need excessive RPG progression tacked on to great combat to keep it compelling. I mean.. Halo gets an MLG play list.. so why not? "Hardcore" is no substitution. HC is for people who think that reaction should be rewarded over aim.

In most cases, it would be correct.. but it's easy to tell that a lot of the perks exist to level the playing field.. just because Juggernaut is gone doesn't mean that there aren't a dozen other newbie perks. This game was built from the ground up for a much more casual audience than the Call of Duty I'm accustomed to. I know that doesn't make it a bad game!

Some things are clear from simple observation. It doesn't take experience to know that refillable tubes, claymores, and frags are going to be detrimental to the game (especially since tubes and claymores are detrimental to the game to begin with).. or that hit boxes have grown in size to compensate for aim and lag.

I'm sure it's still a great pub game! I'm not too proud to admit that I do feel like I'm missing out.

But whatever.. carry on.

I don't really like the starting classes too be honest..

Primary class:
I play with the Vector submachine gun with a red-dot or holographic scope and a silencer
Secondary I use the m93 3 round burst machine pistol with a silencer and greater bullet penetration.

As a Sniper I us the WA2000 with Thermal scope and silencer...
Secondary: M93 silenced + FMJ

Weapon: Fal wtih iron sight (I prefer this over any scope, I don't know...aming just feels better)
Perk1: Sleight of Hand Pro
Perk2: Stopping power (this one really needs it when facing SMG sprayers up close in FFA. Otherwise I'll use Cold-Blooded Pro)
Perk3: Ninja Pro (for the campers)

Not much other classes I use regularly. Still waiting for my AK! :(

Shit....I was unaware why I liked HC...but apparently it's because I favour reaction time over aiming... even though I'm pretty much not a fan of twitch shooters at all. Weird.

Primary: SCAR-H with holographic sights and heartbeat monitor

I'm using the FAL as well. All other weapons run out of ammo before I can get a sizeable streak (don't want to use scavenger). Also Bling, Cold-Blooded (love this one), Ninja (should be more important as other people progress through the ranks).

Using a silencer and heartbeat sensor on the FAL. Will swap the HBS for something different (or just another perk other than Bling) once people start using Ninja. Once I have a M16 I'll be using it exclusively.
