Some games equal some sort of milestones, even if they are not on par with today's standards anymore. Wolfenstein, Doom, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark are some of them. But they were pushing boundaries and can still be seen as masterpieces IMO.

So.. are you trying to counter your own argument? It aged poorly, but it was around for a long time? Did it get bad during the duration of its play or was it after? And you're just plain wrong. There are tons of games that "stand the test of time"—Games that were actually good in the first place. Many of GoldenEye's contemporaries are still very playable today. Half Life 1? Still pretty good. Counter Strike? Still one of the biggest games in the world. Hell.. Doom is still excellent.

Oh.. it was popular? Why didn't you say so. That's the truest mark of quality.

GoldenEye did not decline in quality. It is what it is.

The notion that games are just abandoned immediately today is also mostly untrue, but that's a different topic.

There are twenty seven thousand people playing 1.6 right now. That's 550k unique players in the last two weeks.

I have played Doom in the last year. It's still good.

All of those games are (still) better than GoldenEye... which was always mediocre.

No... I never said that GoldenEye didn't age well. I don't think Megido did either. We said it was always mediocre.

Friendly Fire in Sea of Thieves was switched off, because at the end of a mission, betrayal started, as anyone wanted the treasure for himself.

Adds the sort of social game aspect to it as well, trying to get people with nyou to backstab the rest of the crew and sussing out who is out to stab you in the back. I mean, sorry but an entire ship of paranopid pirates sounds awesome :P

The way they're presenting this game is really bizarre. All I've seen are some sailing, music, and combat mechanics. There's no context to hang any of that on. No hook. It's like showing a new first person shooter and all you show is a guy walking around a map and shooting at things. Are there like... objectives? Organized activities? What's your motivation to play this thing after the novelty of co-op sailing wears off?

I really don't like this style of presenting a new game, where they show you some alpha bullshit while they figure out what they're actually making.

My best guess based on what they have said is booty-gathering (treasure-hunting) on the high-seas with friends. But they've said so much about what they're working on and what they want to achieve, so I'm going to temper my enthusiasm until I get my hands on a beta.

I don't think this game is coming out until late 2017, possibly 2018 as they have said that they want a real beta and not a glorified demo. Would be really disappointed if that beta only ends up being the same 15-minute ship combat over and over again, but I highly doubt it.
