Let's take Fallout 1 and 2 as examples again. The GERPS system isn't all THAT intricate, it doesn't feature particularly much of what i assume you'd call "deep" mechanics, yet it's still two of the best role playing games ever because of the choices they give you and the way it presents the story and characters.
Chanticleer Hegemony
This game could do with some more on/off features for some things.
I would personally appreciate a hardcore more where you don't get map markers, no fast travel unless provided (like teleporting by mages or silt striders) and lasting effects from spells, poisons etc until healed effectively.
If these options were that, optional, I'm sure people like KORN and I could be over the moon with the depth whilst not forcing others to partake in it.
At the end of the day, again, this game will be fun. I will buy it day 1 and it will smother my social life. BUT it will be the 360 version for me until GOTY edition hits and then I can see what mods have made for PC. Then I will quite simply cease to exist outside Tamriel for a while =P

- REDGUARDS: Adrenaline Rush
- WOOD ELF: Resist poison, resisit disease, command animals
- NORD: Battlecry
- KHAJIIT: Night-eye, claw attacks
- IMPERIAL: Voice of the Emperor, find more coins when looting
