GSY Review PC PS4 Xbox One

While the Xbox One was already granted its own Fanatec steering wheel in 2015, Playstation 4 owners had to wait one more year to have a taste at a higher-end wheel. Since 2016, the German manufacturer has finally proposed a version of the CSL Elite which is officially compatible with Sony's console. For our first full-written review of 2017, we have decided to give you our detailed impressions on this (quite expensive) piece of hardware, with a bunch of off-screen videos showing the wheel in action and even a fully translated video review. Because it's a first on Gamersyde, we would love to hear what you think about this kind of article so we know if this review was well worth the efforts we've put into it. Enjoy!
Note: Many thanks to Tiz, who helped me make sure the translation was solid enough to share it with you.

Because the PS4 Pro version has found a way to fool our FPS analysis plugin so it doesn't see any tearing even though it's there, we're only back with 3 last comparison videos on Xbox One X. As you'll see on these 3 other tracks, the game maintains a steady framerate in all 3 modes minor a few exceptions. Tearing remains an issue though, and sometimes we have the impression that the sides of the tracks stutter a bit (which isn't taken as drops by our plugin), but overall, the game now runs very well with many AI cars and bad weather.

While the Project CARS 2 demo on Xbox One X and PS4 Pro was released with 3 graphics modes to choose from, the full game was only updated yesterday. Because we're quite busy at work today, we're just going to start with the Xbox One X version on one circuit (Watkins Glen), which we used before in some of our stress tests. The number of AI was maxed out for the purpose of the videos, with the weather set to thunder storm in the beginning of the race. We should have some PS4 Pro coverage as well at the end of the afternoon or in the evening, and maybe we'll even dare to propose a real face-off between both versions if we can find the time to do so. Ideally, we'd like to test a bunch of other tracks as well, so fingers crossed. Until then, enjoy the following analysis videos.
Update: 2 Xbox One X videos added.

Project CARS 2 was updated on Xbox One today, and though we don't know exactly what the patch is supposed to improve, we still wanted to prepare a few more framerate analysis videos. Another reason to do it was that the previous ones we put up a bit more than a week ago had no sound because of some technical issue on our side, and we wanted to make it up to you somehow. As you'll see, the Xbox One X version can now maintain 60 frames per second in almost all circumstances, with a huge bump in image quality (something we said/showed before). It doesn't come without a price to pay though, as tearing remains really visible in some parts of the circuits we've tested. It would be nice to be able to choose Vsync over the resolution boost, but well...

Project CARS 2 also got updated yesterday night, improving image quality and framerate in most situations. Tearing remains visible when geometry is more complex, there are still a few drops in the wet, but it's an undeniable improvement over the base Xbox One version.
Note: We just realized the videos have no sound due to some technical issue. We are very sorry about that.

Microsoft and the others publishers don't seem to be too eager to give us regular updates on the availability of Xbox One X patches, so we don't really know if Project CARS 2 benefits from one or not. Even if it doesn't, it's still interesting to see how the game runs on Microsoft's new hardware, especially on a track like Monaco in a thunder storm (and a bit of sun in the second part). AI opponents were limited to 19 for the purpose of this video, but it's more than enough on such a circuit.

Project CARS 2 already had some contents on Gamersyde but the Xbox One version was missing the call. This is now no longer the case with these two videos on the circuits of Monaco and Brands Hatch.

Project CARS 2 is releasing worldwide in two days so here is the official launch trailer that gives a glimpse at the game's visuals and huge content.

GSY Live PC PS4 Xbox One

US journalists may have been authorized to publish their reviews of Project CARS 2, but we Europeans still have to wait until 3 p.m. CEST. We won't have a real review up though, as we haven't had enough time to complete the career or to really dive into everything the game has to offer. We'll have detailed impressions with a +/- section though, so if you're interested, come back this afternoon to read our thoughts and watch our PS4 Pro videos. Until then, we wanted to officialise tonight's new livestream at 9:05 CEST, as we have a lot of things to tell you about the game.
Update: Replays are up. After the 1.03 10 GB update, we were pleasantly surprised to have an enjoyable experience during the whole English livestream. Sadly, the French one proved us the problems with the AI still remained on certain tracks and in certain conditions, just like before. Again, no matter how much you like the series (and we do too, remember our PCARS 1 footage?), this is not acceptable in the final build of the sequel of a game that had the very same issues 2 years and a half ago. Maybe SMS should prevent some track/car combinations so it does not happen anymore? Until they manage to fix it somehow that is. If you' re willing to see something nice though, check the Redbull Ring race in the French livestream, good AI, nice lighting, PCARS 2 at its best.

Back when it was released in 2015, the first Project CARS had issues, some of which had been fixed after a certain number of patches. Although we were aware it was not a perfect game, we preferred to focus on its many qualities and had great fun playing. When the sequel was officially announced, we were hopeful Project CARS 2 would address the remaining issues and make us even happier. Well, not quite it seems, and here's why.
Note: All the videos we have decided to share with you is the exact testimony of our experience with the game since last Friday. In no way are we trying to make it look bad, we just cannot hide some of the problems we have seen in the PS4 Pro version. Each sequence you'll find inside were recorded during our long game sessions in the course of the past 3 days.
