Some things that have been confirmed for BF3.

-Prone is back.
-64 players is confirmed (PC for now)
-Coop Campaign.
-Jets.
It's not much, but at least they've confirmed that they put prone back in. Thank fucking god.

Leaked teaser? Who knows. If it is, it's sorta a joke:

This is it! We are very excited to announce the first details on Battlefield 3 and to kickstart the preorders for the Limited Edition!

Battlefield 3 is the true successor to Battlefield 2. Beyond our signature multiplayer, we have also included a full single-player campaign and a co-op campaign – all straight out of the box. As for fan favorite features, how does the return of jets, prone, and 64-player multiplayer (on PC) sound? All this built with our powerful new game engine Frostbite 2, which you'll hear and see a lot of in the months leading up to launch. For the full reveal on Battlefield 3, stay tuned for links to our cover stories hitting the gaming press throughout February, starting with Game Informer right now.
Yup. It's legit. It's official. I'm fucking EXCITED.

IT'S ON.

I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that this didn't get dumped down because of console's and Battlefield Bad Company.

That first tid-bid of info sounds good though..
Always loved playing around with those jets; like flying through the dam pipe in Kubra Dam.

Lets face it now, and get it over with: it did. Battlefield started to get dumbed down before it even hit consoles. 2142 introduced awful vehicle hitboxes, some awful vehicles, and started the consolidation of kits. Hell--it started before that--Battlefield hasn't been safe from this process since BF2 1.0. They patched so much goodness out of that game because people wanted it to be more fair for pubbers. On the other hand, lets also admit this much: Bad Company 2 is a fucking really good game despite some really serious shortcomings (we could go on all day about them too).

If BF3 is just a bigger and badder Bad Company 2 with larger (and hopefully much better) maps, better controls (prone confirmed!), and more vehicles and weapons, it will still be good. Will it be as great as we hope and dream? I don't know. It has the potential to be something so ridiculously terrific. If they can take some of the good things they've learned from Bad Company (gun handling, destruction) and give us some of the depth that we've come to expect from the main franchise, it could be the best team multiplayer game ever fucking made.

My wish list will never come true. I just hope they implement prone in a way that doesn't feel stiff and retarded. Stance delays should feel reasonable, animated, as in Call of Duty. Diving should work. They should actually look at Call of Duty here, because movement is one thing it still gets right (maybe the only thing).

I'll write up some of my own wishes later, when I can properly wrap my head around it, but I do not expect half of them to come true. This year has so many promising shooters on the horizon.. from Bulletstorm to Portal to Battlefield to real hardcore PC games like Red Orchestra. It's almost too good to be true. Somethings got to give!

Ooooh god it's so on! SIX FUCKIN' YEARS! HYPE! GET!

edit: and Crysis and Killzone and all that great indie shit too. I wasn't trying to leave anyone out :)

The problem is; every single person would like to see something else from BF3.

You want it to be a multiplayer twitch shooter like Modern Warfare. I would like to see a squad based multiplayer game that doesn't have everyone belly diving around the level while headshotting someone on the other side of the level with a fucking sub-machine gun.

Oh no no no no I don't want it to be a twitch shooter like Modern Warfare. I want it to be comfortably in the middle like Battlefield 2. I do think Bad Company 2's combat model is pretty sound already though, and I do absolutely want people diving on their bellies during firefights :P

Basically I want BF2 style gameplay, with that kind of depth and team play, but with Bad Company 2 bullet physics and Call of Duty style movement. I only mention Call of Duty in this discussion because it already has a slight delay in changing stances which they tried to implement in patches in BF2 and it always felt buggy and awful. If they want stance delays done right, they should feel right, and they already do it in COD.

Ahh that sounds just the way I would love it as well.

The only thing I kinda hated about BC2 was that the overal physics felt a bit like the earth's gravity was lowered. Like when someone was shot they would kinda float to the ground, same with jumping and falling off of buildings. Almost like Halo, which IMO is a bad thing in a realistic shooter.

I never really felt that to be honest.. I do wish the game performed better, but I'm going to target BF3 for my next build I think. There's no way I'm not playing this game with good performance. I just can't accept that. I expect it to be more demanding than BC2 already, and BC2 hates my dual core.

As long as everything is tightened up i'm fine. BF has always had issues with bad hit detection and somewhat iffy netcode. Killing stuff has always felt more random than anything, I hope to god that is what they've learnt from CoD, it's the one thing they got right, the FEEL and RESPONSE of everything, not that CoD was perfect, but it was MILES ahead of how BF has always felt.

Also, less base raping, they need more gun emplacements, particularly AA in multiple locations, possibly mobile AA aswell. BF has always had rediculously overpowered aircraft and no reasonable way to take them down, having the only AA in the middle of the map when you're being base raped doesnt help.

Yep, I can agree on the randomness of the kills, sometimes it would take one good burst and sometimes half a clip wasn't enough to kill someone.

I found BFBC2 did a much better job in that department; Choppers could be taken done pretty easy!

BC2 did a better job at some basic combat model stuff too. It's just a shame about ya know.. all the other stuff. There better be big, hopefully scalable maps in this game, and for fucks sake, they better focus on conquest and there better be multiple types of conquest as seen in Battlefield 2. And it's not so much that BC2 had awesome AA, but helos were no where near as powerful as they are in BF2. I would like to see a little more balance between those two things.

This could pretty easily be the best all around multiplayer team game this generation, but that's really not enough to make it the best Battlefield ever, is it? :P

I have only a single wish (I have more but this one is the most important): Maps built for conquest! Vietnam features two maps that are good for conquest and rush, and imo they're the better rush maps as well (Operation Hastings and Phubai Valley). If they just make the basic combat just a little bit better than BC2 and have the scale of BF2 I'll play this like a hooker.

That's me right now:

BF2 jets > everything put together, helos > most things in the ground. You play BF2 now, you'll be raped by jets 99% of the time because they can slow to a crawl, can take out AA easier than it can take them out, can repair in flight and have more armaments than anything else.

Even BFBC2 helos are pretty insane, a decent pilot and gunner can get a dozen kills easily before being taken out, and thats only if the enemy manages to get the AA for any amount of time without the helo noticing. You could always get lucky with a tracer dart, but chances are youll run out before you get a hit, or youll get killed first....or they have flares.

Point is, aircraft have always been overpowered, and there have always been too few ways to take them out.

I don't agree with you there, if you have a decent team, hell if you have couple of decent players, those choppers are going down before they can get a kill streak going... (I'm talking strictly BFBC2)

BF2 is a whole other ballgame... Although I do like the BF2 setup for choppers

I can certainly get behind prone if it's not used in a stupid way. In BC2 Having to back away or turn an run when under fire from a long distance was stupid, you should be able to drop down and roll( or dive). I don't, however, like two guys shooting each other and one drops to the ground getting an advantage in the fight- that's just dumb and IRL would get you killed. There should some momentary penalty(aim inaccuracy) when you drop into prone. I know it's a game, but I like battlefield because it feels more realistic, and that "prone fighting" shit that happens so much in COD is lame, IMO. Prone should have real advantages too, like stabilized aiming/accuracy and, of course, being harder to spot. I'd really like to see an ability to use low cover for supported stability too. In the end, it all comes down to balance, obviously.
I really hope they keep the sense of weight from BC/BC2- I've never played a game that practically gave me flashbacks of carrying all that shit...

I just played a game where we were camped for the whole game by choppers and tanks at A in the heavy metal map, the chopper just sat halfway across the map raining death down upon us, we had NO way of hitting it, no AA, tracers very rarely hit at that range, plus he had flares anyway. NOT fun, NOT fair.

What were we meant to do, we use our choppers and just get cut down by the only well placed AA in the middle of the map. Maybe on consoles with smaller maps or something, or worse controls it evens out, but on the PC it's just a rape mobile.

Nah it's just as bad on console if not worse.

The fact that there is no server list on console is a huge issue when comparing PC to Console. You can't consistently play with the same players. So the majority of your teammates end up being pub noobs.
Often times in those chopper maps you HAVE to grab your teams chopper otherwise in a lot of cases no one will. Then the opposing team just obtains both and the destruction is unparalleled.

Also the fact you can only have 4 man squads max in BFBC2 just blows. Why is 4 the standard? This game comes from roots where 64 players was the norm. On console 4 players isn't the norm anymore, they don't even make split screen. I have more than 3 friends I could play this game with in a squad.

All issues aside though, BFBC2 rules and I still play it with friends. Vietnam is also awesome as well.

Don't worry, I run into those games on Console on occasion too. It's pretty much spawn-start-to-get-bearings-die. If you do manage to get to cover, you can't hit those damn circle-strafers for shit. There should be some kind of AA class or something. Blackhawks I can hit just fine as long as they get close enough. They can also be taken down by crew-serves. The Gun ships, expecially on Oasis which used to have an AA gun on the first set of M-coms in the first game, can really ruin the fun, although it's probably great for the pilot/gunner...
