It's still mostly optimistic about 360 performance though. That's not a bad thing. Even as someone who fully intends on playing the PC version, I like what I'm hearing. I don't want BF3 to require a super computer to play properly. I know it won't support DX9 cards, but we're getting into ancient tech at that point. For a game this advanced I think it's pretty fair of them to expect people to run it on relatively advanced hardware too.

I have Ati 4870 in my HTPC, the TV is 1366x768, so pretty much everything is 60fps. I'll probably hold off with upgrade for anther year or maybe even longer.

It's really a credit to ATI that the 4000 series has held up this well. We're what, three years in on this hardware, and it's still pushing most games extremely well? Yeah.. that's a good high end card!

I wouldn't bother. Wait until the game is out and see how GTX275 SLI performs against the GTX500 series. You'll be missing out on higher end DX11 performance, I think.

By November we might even have an entirely new refresh of AMD and nvidia parts too.

It's hard to find reviews that include GTX260's at all (and compares them to the 560Ti)--but it's already substantially faster than a single GTX460. I wouldn't be surprised if the 560Ti were faster than the GTX260 SLI already, especially @ DX11 stuff. SLI is for super high end enthusiast builds IMO. It doesn't make much sense as an upgrade path.

edit: err.. for some reason I got mixed up and thought you had a GTX260 when I edited that post the second time. I think the point still stands though. I'd wait it out. By the time this game comes out you'll be able to get better single card performance at a reasonable price than you'll get out of adding a second GTX275.

There's really not much stuff that's going to push it though. Most high budget games are console ports so they'll always run great on that class of GPU (until the end of console generation at least), games like Metro 2033 or BF3 are few and far between. Which Ithink is better for everyone involved, maybe except ATi/nVidia.:p

Right now you see it's only going for about 150 which is really sweet. A few months from now does make a big difference however. Things could change drastically.

I also still have a GTX275 (Gainward), and BF3 might be the game that finally forces me to upgrade again..

But first I want to make sure the PC version is a true oldskool highend BF game without any compromises made in terms of porting.. For example, is it known yet how the 64 players is gonna work compared to the 24 players on consoles? Smaller maps and/or no jets on consoles?

If the game is played on the same levels on every player count it would be very disappointing. Battlefield should stick with the scaling levels feature from BF2. I want 16/32/64 player maps on the PC.

Define "old"? The 470s are $250 right now, and are some of the best cards for your money. I'm not dipping into top of the line cards, f that. $1000 for 2x580gtxs? no thanks lol. I've finally decided to try out sli, had the other for a few months.

In truth i bought it so I could run BC2 at 32x AA and 16x AF stable @ 1080p. It runs fine now but it bothers me that when tons of explosions go off it drops to 30ish. Its just icing on the cake that BF3 is coming out so soon :)

$250 is also the current price point for the GTX 560 Ti and HD6950 (which are both better cards). You could have sold your GTX470 for nearly full price (this one is going to end @ $225: http://cgi.ebay.com/GEFORCE-GTX-470-Graphics-Card-...) and bought two 560 Ti's for essentially the same price. But come on.. we're suckers. ;)

Not that it would have made a huge difference anyway.. you're right. But come on--by the time November rolls around, you'll be able to get what's high-end now at a fraction of their current prices, and it's likely that there will be even more newness on the market. Upgrading right now specifically for a game that's not going to be out for 6+ months is risky. That is all.

Lol I'm not going through that whole ordeal of trying to sell my used graphics card, screw that lol. And as i said, i'm really just upgrading to play my current games at a faster clip. And you'd be surprised how little the prices go down :( I bought an hd5770 like.. 2 years ago and they're maybe $50 cheaper right now.

There's nothing wrong with people holding out for newer cards though, especially when there are so few games that are really pushing DX11 features anyway.

That's what I've got. I've only got one GTX 470 though. It's more than enough for the moment. I've also got 16 gigs of RAM, but I think it's locked down to only use 4, Anyone know how to make your PC use the Ram it's got?

The only reason I know of for your PC to use (less than) four gigs of your memory is a 32bit OS.

No, It's 64. I only know It's not using it is because I have one of those widgets that tracks the processing. I was doing some Hair rendering in 3ds Max, and saw it was only using 28% of my Ram when every core I have was being maxed. It was using, like, 4.3 gigs. Maybe it's capped by Max...

It depends on what you are doing. I got After Effects to use 5 gigs on a RAM Preview, but I thought RAM would help with Rendering...

It's hard to imagine this game, with its larger environments, double-sized player count, new new destruction, particle, and light systems will perform "like BC2." That's some serious optimization if they've managed to pull that off. Bad Company 2 rapes the CPU as you add players and destruction. There's even a performance gap between vanilla and Vietnam thanks to the latter's lack of things to blow up. Destruction 2.0 is a helluva thing, and it's a helluva strain on the CPU.
