Battlefield 3 EARTHQUAKES, 64 players max, destruction, high end sound design, AWESOME ANIMATION, superior lighting effects, particle effects last for bit longer, vehicular combat at ground and air....I think we have a winner ~_~ If you tried to pull all that off with Cry Engine 3 the game would end up running at 5 frame per second
The BF3, Crysis 2, and Unreal Engine threads are sad places to be. People seem incapable of being excited for what's to come without shitting on other games/engines in the process.

I felt inspired by this to buy BC2 Vietnam tonight, and what a blast! The conquest maps are actually really great (at least that's my first impression). Very satisfied so far.

Lighten up. Aint that serious.
Meanwhile DICE with their experience with Forstbite 1 for consoles and DX9/10 PC GPUs, made a new version of their engine, written from scratch for consoles and DX11 only. Much smarter approach and will give better results on both platforms - no DX9 legacy in PC version means optimization for all the standard DX11 features, which is really sweet (as opposed to throwing some DX11 features on top of a DX9 game, which winds up being just a performance hog).
From what I've seen so far, it looks like C2 SP>BF3 SP though, so it's not all lost for Crytek.

Poor quality but in case anyone missed this. Gonna be my GOTY for sure, no freaking doubts at all. I'll spend all kinds of money on upgrading my PC to get this game looking and running as good as possible
I just love everything they are showing so much lol...
I don't think I've been such a sucker for hype for a game in a long time. I really cannot wait for this game.
Regardless, I'm getting increasingly excited for this game. The last BF game I played was BF:Vietnam and maybe a demo of BFBC. I haven't really been into any multiplayer PC FPSes since Counterstrike, so I'm kind of itching for something new to play.
My 4890 has been serving me well for the past two years or so, but this is looking FAR too good for me not to upgrade.

I'll think about a GPU later if I decide I need one, but would rather wait until the end of the year before I get too serious about upgrades. It's a three way race between three Phenom II's: X4 955 BE, X4 965 BE, and X6 1100T BE. I'm not sure what to do.
Any word on how the X6es are? As for GPUs, are the 6900s reviewing well?

The 955BE is definitely the cheapest path for me to add to get to quad core performance. Maybe I'll go with my initial instinct and just spend as little money as possible for the time being. The allure of having six cores (which aren't as fast as intel's best quads anyway.. but still AMD's best CPU's) for only $80 more is really freaking tempting.

It’s seriously impressive stuff, but even a blind man could see that it clearly wasn’t running on an Xbox 360. So what about us mere mortals who don’t own a Skynet-style PC? How will our console cope?
“We knew that people would think that this demo was running on PC, but the good thing is that it’s all based on streaming,” Bach tells us.“We have a super-powerful streaming pipeline, which makes it possible to stream high-end data through the game so every frame we look at will have fresh data. This means you don’t have to load everything at once; you don’t have to fill the level at the start. In BC2, you have 512 megs of memory; you load it, you play it, done. The objects you saw at the end needed to be loaded at the start, and you think, ‘It took me an hour to get to this point where I can see it, so what’s the point?’
“That’s the whole magic with this. We can have 512 megs every hundred metres if we wanted to, as we can just flush the data out [and replace it] as you move along. I can promise you that the console versions will still look amazing because of the core technology. If you have a 360, we want to use that machine to the maximum.”
I have Ati 4870 in my HTPC, the TV is 1366x768, so pretty much everything is 60fps. I'll probably hold off with upgrade for anther year or maybe even longer.
