Crysis 2 was also targeted squarely at consoles. The only special thing Crysis 2 did on the PC is run at 60fps. Press start to begin. LOL.
Doesny crysis 2 currently have dx11 support, with tesselation and a high res texture pack? Dont recall the console versions doing any of that?

Yes it does, and yet it still pretty clearly made a lot of design compromises for the console version. They put a clear effort into making the game work on consoles. DICE put more effort into making a badass PC game.

What? I've played it. I don't need to tell myself anything. The game speaks volumes.

Has a mode from Bad Company != has a lot in common with Bad Company. They're completely different beasts. I can't even play BC2 anymore. BF3 completely ruined it for me.

Some new tidbit from the gamescom gameplay:

Players can spawn straight into a vehicle from spawn menu if a teammate is driving it.

So transport vehicles won't go to waste when a ignorant driver go off without waiting for anyone.
I hope there are some restrictions on this. I understand the why, but it's stupid. It's because people are dumb, not because the game needs it.

I don't know how I feel about anyone just being able to up and spawn in my vehicles. Those spots are for my squad.

It's so unbelievably annoying when it happens though - and it happened all the time for me in BF:BC and then in 1943. Good to see they're introducing a solution.

It's a crappy solution. I hope that's not final.. a lot of these things are changing rapidly in the alpha and I imagine will continue to adapt through the beta. If they implement this, they need some kind of squad lock option.. and they need some way to deal with the inevitable clown car effect. If it's truly that simple, you could drive a vehicle into an enemy flag and have your entire team spawn there!

They did this in BF BC2. It really can get irritating, when they can squeeze one guy in close, hide, then spawn the squad- making defense very difficult and a bit janky. Of course, it's a complex problem as it would suck to respawn at base every time (especially when you can't get close to landing a boat without a friggin' jet raping you every time). Just started playing BF2, and there are definitely some problems with that game if you don't have a good team. One thing I did like about BC2 is that even if you team sucked balls, you could still have some fun if you are good...

No.. what they did in BC2 is allow you to spawn on any member of your squad, including in their vehicles. The quote from NeoGAF is suggesting that you can spawn on any vehicle that any teammate is in. I was suggesting some kind of optional squad lock, because it will be very annoying having other teammates steal your squad's seats. That still won't fix the clown car thing though.. eek.

And there are definitely problems with BC2 if you don't have a good team too. They need not put effort into rewarding lone wolves.

So, a soldier in direct Line of Sight that is spotted will have a 3d red marker. If he moves behind cover or concealment, including vegetation, the 3d red marker will disappear. He will always be on the minimap. Vehicles are always fully 3D spotted, and LOS does not apply since they are larger more important targets with less threats (and it plain did not work to have jets flying around who couldn't see the tank you spotted for him to take out).

This lets you essentially "nudge" your buddy to tell him about a target, or point out a sniper on a hill you see but cannot engage (with your shotgun for example). But it prevents players from using 3D spotting as a wall hack.

Additionally, the primary motivator for the change is that 3D spots that you cannot see are not threats. We noticed that players would focus on 3D spots over everything else, meaning they would ignore people in line of sight. It's far less confusing when the 3D spot on a soldier can only be seen if you can see the soldier.
A big improvement if it works. Would prefer 3D off entirely on infantry, but this is still a big step forward.

It's not so much that I want to necessarily Lone wolf it, as even if I was solo (squads don't stay together, or they are doing something stupid), I could still be effective for the whole team (ie defend an avenue of approach no one is watching, provide covering fire/overwatch from a stationary weapon). Spawning on non-squadies would be a big no-no...

They've already stepped back to open squads, which I think is fine. Everyone cried when they disabled squad hoping in BF2, and open squads are effectively the same.

Looks like the recent trailer footage was running on a 580 SLI...that's like $1000 worth of hardware. :(

They better optimize the hell out of this game cause a two card requirement would suck

Says who? Two card requirement? Are you shitting me? Since when are people required, or even expected to max out cutting edge software? The alpha ran locked @ 60fps w/ medium shaders @ 1920x1200 + 4xAA on a GTX570. Ran on high @ 50-60 fps. Alpha. "Two card requirement" is a gigantic overstatement. Worth noting: Still looked better than anything else on my PC on medium w/ Alpha assets. Ran locked @ 60 if I dropped down to 1680x1050.

It's not unreasonable for new software to stress new hardware. It's more unreasonable to expect to play every game w/ maximum settings.

OH I didn't look into the alpha, you played it on your pc grift? MY BF vet rank is 8 and I still didn't get in

edit: looks like you did play it, cool! I want to run this baby at high settings at 1080p @ 60 FPS, I hope a single GPU can handle that. I am waiting for the newer cards ^_^

It's very possible that a GTX 580 will be capable if they continue to optimize it, but I really don't get why everyone needs to max it out. I understand the want, but it's going to look awesome anyway.

I mean I might buy another GTX 570 to achieve that, but I'm happy knowing that I don't need to to achieve 60+. I'm willing to turn some things down a peg if I need to.

yea some effects are better to forget about: like tessellation, HBAO.... I really like DoF and motion blur so I will keep them on with everything else on high! I doubt my 5850 will be able to handle that so I will need a new card for sure.

Also smoke is a big killer in Bad Company 2, its the only thing that knocks my fps down by 20 FPS for some strange reason. I hope Dice optimizes the smoke effects in this game. Smoke + AA don't mix well

It's really the only logical thing to do in a MP game.. and people are both blowing the requirements for this game out of proportion as well as the need to play the game maxed out.

You can play this game at 50% of its potential and it still looks pretty damn good.

I pre-ordered awhile ago. But still my major concern has to do with how the movement feels, how the damage system is (if it's 1 fullclip a kill, or more realistic/tactical), map size/if linear, shadows, and immersion. These are a huge issue for me seeing as they do not plan on supporting mods or total conversions.

I guess I'm simply worried it's like Medal of Honor (which was probably the worst fps I've played in a long while), or too run & gun/spray & pray like those assembly-line games such as Modern Warfare and Call of Duty.
