The Karkand addon pack really made BF3 better, as we all hoped.. To me it now feels like playing BF2 with awesome graphics and physics.. Infact I almost forgot about all the new maps BF3 came with.. :P
I'm so, so happy that the game basically came with this content. If the limited edition hadn't come with Back to Karkand, there may not be as much fanfare for it. Now I just hope that future expansions are both good and played. Special Forces for BF2 didn't even get the love it deserved. I dig how the content blends with vanilla content too. We can run both in rotation on the same server (I think). I don't know how all of that would work out if such a large chunk of players didn't already own the content.
I'm mostly pleased.
I'd be into stuff like the often imagined 2143 or WWII content too.
A WWII BF again with even better graphics and physics etc then now in BF3 would be great.. Maybe an idea for BF4? Tiger v Sherman and ME109 v Spitfire battles in Frostbite 3.0.. But that's for 2013 or later, lets enjoy BF3 now first.. :P
I hope Dice has plans to make a Battlefield 2143 since that game was also not fully appreciated.

But it's an interesting twist on the mode, which is already much more interesting than Team Deathmatch. I thought as much in Bad Company 2 too.
I still need to go kill some folks with the noob tube to unlock the L85.
edit: Oh--and squads are ironically really broken in squad dm. Sometimes you're put into a squad on your team, sometimes you're not. A lot of people think that you just can not squad spawn in the mode. That's not the case. Sometimes you totally can. I find it a little funny that they would encourage people to play a mode that clearly needs some bug fixes.
There's only one squad per team in SQDM. You're not always on your team's squad. I've been in games where half my team was in a squad, and the other half was not. The result: two people can spawn on each other while the other half is stuck w/ random spawns. That's not how the mode is supposed to work (I hope). That has to be a bug.
I never use party join. It's sorta pointless on the PC.

Meaning you have to either:
1. Play against your friends in your party (not great when the whole idea of squads is to play together)
2. Keep spamming switch teams until another player wishes to do so and swap or
3. Quit and try again.
Reach had this nailed and I really though BF3 was going to be leaps better not worse...
The mode will improve dramatically if they fix this. It's much more satisfying than the campfest and horribad spawns of TDM.
Rush. Attacking. Enemy camping you with both of their tanks and yours and snipers...

2. Stick with BF3, get a friends into Your squad. Use smoke granades to avoid snipers and mortar to get rid of tanks. Simple but requires most obvious thing - teamwork. Keep playing with strangers and You'll hate this game soon enough.

And these may seem sorta obvious, but rivaL xfactor posted some pretty solid tips on youtube, and one of them addresses pushing past choke points:

Good stuff. Check out his other clips too.
They were more consistently vehicle based like Battlefield SHOULD be
Back to Karkand levels are better than the rest in both. That's because Battlefield 2 maps were basically all sandboxes that featured every aspect of the gameplay. BC2 Vietnam also had some quality conquest layouts.
This game is now up to 13 levels and some of them are pretty dang good. I guess it doesn't hurt that I love infantry.. and the return of conquest assault is so very welcome. I even like metro in the right setting (and with few enough people).. and Bazaar is a great infantry map despite the stupid choke point in the middle. There are some great routes in that map.
I just played an hour long game of assault on Oman with like 700 tickets or something. That will wear you down.
The real irony is that the worst bits of BF3 are the bits inspired by BC2.
