HDR is a technique whose purpose in videogames is to simulate a more realistic range... as seen naturally... but just implementing HDR does not automatically make a game look natural. The human eye is capable of distinguishing a contrast ratio of more than one million to one.. attempting to replicated that is far from a perfect science.

I absolutly agree with you. HDRR doesn't automatically make games more realistic, because this depends how programmers implement lighting. But it's a necessary foundation if you want to build a realistically lighting system. Even if you don't want a realistically looking lighting system you are gaining advantages for your image quality (more accurate range).

How your iris adapts to different light levels is a key to accurately emulating natural light in a videogame too

It's not about if it's important or not. Sure, it is very important for a realistic look. But it's not the matter of the technique HDR how programmers implement blending effects.

No. The marketing number for FM2 was "more than 60" tracks. So let's keep it at 60.

60/12 = 5. So on average....somehow....these guys came out with 5 tracks out of 1 actual.

So now that the marketing number is 100+ tracks, divide by 5 we get 20 actual. A decent number if true. An 8 track increase.

Sorry, there were actually 18 different enviroments on Forza 2 so 60/18 = 3 avg :)

Which suggests Forza 3 will have atleast 35 different eviroments which is much more than enough.

So what the hell makes an environment? It's just a marketing BS term these dudes came up with.

There are 12 circuits/tracks, and that's what's relevant. How do they get 18 "environments" out of that? More marketing BS.

Or were you being sarcastic? (I hope).

Regardless. You get to the same amount of tracks I mentioned in my post (or add 2 or 3). And since we are talking about environments, the new shots focused on the track looked amazing. (see frontpage)

iirc FM2 initially mentioned 18 and it was cut to offically 12 and has had a number of DLCs since that have increasd the number.

But FM2 is not a pretty game and the selected photomode shots really obscure the fact the actual game (which I still play) has all kinds of artifacts, no filtering, cartoony color schemes, and horrible paint jobs. Reflections were also lower resolution and updated slowly. The before/after shoots for FM2/FM3 Lebato posted validate everything I said about FM2... so haters can go hate elsewhere, especially since I don't see them online playing FM2!

Problems aside, Forza Motorsport 2 was and basically still is the best current gen racer of this generation. At least until Forza 3 and the new GT show up that is :D

No lack of visual prowess prevented Forza 2 from being what it was meant to be at its core, an incredible racing sim. Comparison photos between forza 2 and forza 3 validate nothing aside from the fact that Forza 3 has obviously superior graphics. :)

45 tracks over 12 enviroments in the end...

so i guess its 45/12 = 4 avg so I guess we will be getting around 30 enviroments from 115 tracks in Forza 3.

The really great thing in Forza 3 is that the 3 variations of that single enviroment on the demo are completely different from each other unlike Forza 2 variations.

45 tracks over 12 enviroments in the end...

Haha, I hope gear shifting animations will be in for cockpit even though it was painfully obvious all people playing were going with assists and automatic.

I suspect the launch date is cutting it a bit close that they may not be able to get everything in.

Even if they're using automatic, there should still be gear shifting animations, assuming there's not multiple cockpit models for every car.

Ok with the track discussion settled, let's all just hope that number doesn't decrease as release nears just like it did before (among other things). In other words, let's hope it doesn't get downgraded over time.

It may very well go down as they are on a tight schedule and supposedly not everything can make it in.

You see those incredible looking car models that you only see in the showroom type setting? Those were suppose to be the in-game car models, but they don't have the time to get them in and will get them in for next time. Pretty much, Turn 10 seems to be operating more like an EA dev these days only with a slightly longer turnaround than EA devs have for sports titles like Madden or Fifa.

Oh well that's out of the picture LOL.

Very true Jin and honestly EA isn't doing so bad a job these days. I would go as far as to say they've got a very impressive model working for them and should continue on that path.

Fifa 10 looks killer and we'll get a quick refresh of that series :D

I don't think we're getting one until the game is closer to release and they are absolutely sure they'll have it all in.

Supposedly they are playing with the possibility of sneaking in day/night cycles or whatever, but they don't want to find themselves in the position they were in last time where they mentioned all these things ahead of time and couldn't get them in for release.

That's the best available, but it's missing a lot of other details. I'm very happy about the career changes because a lot of the games I get, I'll hardly ever go online with them so I at least like the offline package to be something worthwhile.

Forza 3 is also a 2 disc title, at least that is what has been said.

According to IGN, the GT trailer was all real time.....
