I have to agree with Sath in that God of War 3 isn't really worth a purchase. However, I will certainly rent the game as it's sure to be a fun game, but with such simple combat and no real replay to the story, I don't really see why anyone would want to play the game over and over agian.

Like he said, it's just a one time experience.

It will be nice if someone one day figures out how to do a really great multiplayer for these types of action games. Or even some kind of deep co-op gameplay type. It would make GoW style games so much more worth the money.

I dare not imagine the level of utter insanity that would ensue if you had two Kratoses going at it at once. It'd be like having a t-virus enhanced Nintendo 64 kid loose in your head.

To make an action game replayable you make the combat on par with Bayonetta,Ninja Gaiden,DMC and put it to use in a mission mode are plain and simple, you dont need coop or multiplayer.

Maybe some games aren't meant for multiplayer, but I can't think of many that'd be hurt by at least allowing a second palette-swapped player.

It should be made the way Sigma 2 did it,in a arena mode or mission mode and not in any way interfere in the story part of the game, maybe out there is the person who can make it possible and awesome.

Maybe next gen.

It'd probably screw up the balance in plenty of games.

I just don't see a downside to allowing it in the campaign as just a fun bonus. Play the game a few times yourself, then play it with a friend. By that time, you don't have to worry about interfering with the story at all. My enjoyment isn't going to be hindered simply because there's a second, different coloured Ryu or Bayonetta playing with me while there's only one of us in the cinemas.

It makes absolutely NO sense to say that the story mode shouldn't allow co-op.

So? Playing co-op in Halo makes it much easier and "screws up the balance." Replaying games with New Game+ can screw up the balance as well. I'm not saying playing through your first time in co-op would be a good idea, but having the option as a means of extending the game's life makes a ton of sense.

Plenty of people find Uncharted replayable, I don't really see the difference between that and God of War personally. Especially Uncharted 2, which has a lot of sequences directly comparable to the more directed elements of God of War, like flight sections, boss fights, et cetera.

I think if you make a compelling enough game with great enough moment-to-moment scenario designs, people will want to revisit it. Trophies go a long way towards replayability too, and perhaps some sort of reward/unlock system akin to Uncharted could be incorporated aswell.

At some point you gotta ask yourself if a 20 hour game really needs to be replayable though I guess. I think that's plenty of bang for your buck, especially if you do the absolutely douchy thing of comparing it to how long a movie keeps you engaged and multiply the cost of a movie ticket accordingly.

Sigma 2 I THINK was the first in the genre to have the online co-op mission mode thing and it works perfectly (where is my solo mission mode stupid Hayashi!).

Now Visceral Games is doing the samething with Dante's Inferno, but BETTER than Sigma 2 with Trials of St Lucia. What they have done is that they give you the option to create your own missions from enemies, diffuculty level, how many waves and what level its going to be in. Then people can play your missions and rate them and you can even play online co-op. Now thats a great idea for such a genre, but too bad DI has only one weapon (traded my copy in).

One thing they could do is to make dedicated co-op missions. Basically alternate story from the main story and let us play, kind of like how ND did with Uncharted 2.

But what IRAIPTOIR said, to make such a genre have replayvalue you must have a in-depth combat, or plenty of combos and weapon variations, that way when you do stuff it makes the combos fresh, from standard to complex ones. And weapons, needs ALOT or a few well thought out weapons, each of them being great as their own and not some tacked on jop to show us "we got weapons".
Lets face it, the only weapon people are using in GOW all the time is the default weapons Kratos has and thats that with some slight change for a few seconds to others when needed.

For example NG is the only title that has fresh weapons/ninpo (magic) for every new titles comes out and each and one of them has tons of combos with their own personality and is very well thought out of what they can do and make all of them satistfying to use and enever feel boring.

I let my little cousin which is like 6-8 years old play Sigma 2 on Acolyte (easy). Within 10 minutes after I told him what buttons do what, I let him use random weapons like Falcons Talons, Dragon Sword, Vigoorian Flail to play around with, and he was doing great.

I told him that BLOCK button is crucial and as soon as you see enemies attacking, hold it. He even managed to obliterate enemies after I told him that when purple mist shows up go close and press TRIANGLE to finish them off, and he did great for someone in his age, and he kept doing various stuff, even pulled off a Izuna Drop lol.
He also enjoyed playing as Ayane, thought she was fun and easy to use.

Basically yeah, the fun factor is the combat with this genre, that is like 80% or a bit more of the time what you are doing, playing it and fighting stuff off the rest is cutscenes and maybe some platforming and such. Visuals and scale means nothing if you are not having fun PLAYING it, simple fact.
I keep reading people are talking about like "wow GOW3 looks fantastic, look at the scale, look how detailed the character is...art in motion lol going to be a great experience"...etc. but nobody talks about the combat and what they can/could have done to improve it more. From GOW1 to now GOW3 they are using exactly the same combat without rethink the combat a bit more, except they add very small twists like grab a enemy and tackel enemies...yay, fun :S

Sure I DO think Bayonetta has great combat as I have seen in the videos, its very polished and well done. But the style and art of the game is something I hate about it, and that is a love or hate, and unlike RAIPTOIR I cant like it or take it seriously. Considering I am looking at the game and playing it I cant ignore it and say "well good thats over now to more seriousness", besides, they have the style of the game integrated with the combat.

I am sure GOW3 will have a great experience and it will have Arena Mode, but I still wont buy it because the combat is unsatistfying. And no I am not talking about how easy the combat is, Darksiders had that and I loved it.

Sorry for the long post, but when someone is a fanatic of the genre you write alot :)

Hello people, must be waiting for me impatiently heeheehee ;)

Well, its getting better and better... today, the latest tweet tells us that just as usual, gow3 has no loading screens at all!... its one, long, seamless playthrough (and must remind you its being read from a disc, goes upto 60 fps, has no install and even then no loading screen... shhh!)

Words of Christer Ericson, Director of Technology at Sony Santa Monica:
“And since people asked: #GoW3 has seamless loading. No install, followed by 10+ hours of play uninterrupted by load screens!”

Which also run ingame?,

only a few will be ingame-recorded, others will purely run using current attributes... as devs said, in cinemas, you'll see Kratos wearing the selected costume of the player's choice!

But even if they are, its a feat they are doing it off a disc and no load-up screen comes in between...

LOL well by MP in a god of war game I wasn't thinking of one on one type stuff. More like an arena combat style mode but how fast you kill the enemies on your screen somehow effects what is going on in the other guys' arena. Like the first to kill a certain enemy adds an extra enemy to the other guy's screen or somehow takes a point away. Just some sort of battle arena where you don't fight each other but you compete in how well you kill the enemies and your actions affect the other player somehow to make it a competitive game.

Just a thought...

While I'm sure the game will look good, I don't see the point in bringing up reviews. Most reviews said Halo 3 looked fantastic (or some similar adjective) and would you agree with that? I can think of plenty of exclusive or uber-hyped games that don't look nearly as good as the fanboys/reviews often claim. Not saying GoW3 fits that bill, but for me a review of a blockbuster game (especially an exclusvie) claiming the graphics are "super fantastic" usually means very little.

IMO GoW3 looks really nice, but it seems like only the pro-Sony crowd are the ones with their jaws on the floor. Same goes for Halo Reach. I get so tired of how over-hyped all these fucking exclusives are, while plenty of great multiplat games get shit on when compared to such. yawn...
