It will be good to see what updates they have made to the physics model since GT5p (Well GT4). I look forward to trying it :)

4+ minute GT5 Demo footage here...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOJHMZH1D0A

I have to say, i'm dissapointed by what i'm seeing, the enviroments still look awful and what on earth is going on with the handling of the cars?? Things really havent changed, a high performance car shouldnt be nose diving like that, it also looks like you can still lock the brakes and steer at the same time and the twitchy behaviour of the car reminds me of NFS:Shift (Although this could just be the driver?). I'm hoping this demo is taken from an extremely early build :s

On the plus side, the sense of speed seems to have improved and the replay angles(as always) look great.

It really is ugly, need to see it in person with the demo later this week, but all the videos and screens have shown a huge drop off in quality. The track is just so bland, spectators all seem to be 2d, 2d trees stick out like a sore thumb in all instances, car even has some aliasing issues. Just so many issues, cockpit cam has some horrid jaggie shadows aswell, not really reaching the bar that PD set themselves tbh.

i dont think this "demo" is indicative of the final game tbh. i mean, for starters, the "demo" is only 220 MB small. demo's for games like god of war 3 and ratchet and clank where 2.5 GIG....i dont think this is how the game is going to look at all, hell, it looks worse then prologue based on those video's....can you honestly see that being the case come the release of GT5? cos i certainly cant.

Why release a GT5 demo then if it isn't indicative of the final game?
It's like throwing out a movie trailer containing nothing but drawings by 3yr olds and then saying its nothing like the retail product, either show us what we're gonna get or show nothing at all, anything else is going to be damaging.

it isnt a demo, it's for the competition, from what i've read it's a stripped down version of GT5 (more like a stripped down version of prologue) it's basically just the physics system and it's just about setting fast times, not about the visuals, i assume they did it to cut down on file size, after all, as awesome as the god of war 3 demo was, 2.5 gig is rediculous

The demo has just one car and one pretty empty looking track, no A.I just time trial mode so I think 220mb is certainly sizeble enough. It doesnt look worse than prologue, it looks the same and thats the problem, GT5p had beautiful cars and awful enviroments which seems to be the case here too. The game is to be released in Japan in just over 3 months so I dont see why they would release a demo from a build that is ages old, we already have prologue for that??

543mb!!! HD download version here,

http://www.taxigamer.com/PlayStation_3/Gran_Turism...

looks a bit better here but now you can just just how awful the enviroments actually are.

Well then they should make damn sure it's not in any way affiliated with GT5, which is nigh on impossible, everyone is clamouring for something to play related to the game, its gonna be viewed as a demo and a merketing tool either way.
They should have just released a proper demo, surely it wouldnt have taken much effort, they had one for E3 afterall.

stability is one reason to release a lesser demo, we've seen the game looks a LOT better then this already, but the demo that was shown may not have had the stability of this one. whats better, a demo that looks great, with damage modelling etc but crashes frequently, or a demo that looks worse then prologue (it IS worse then prologue btw, a LOT worse, the crowd at least moved in that) but was more far more stable.

remember, this isnt a GT5 demo (the clues in the title), it is simply the GT academy...a competition.

Watch the HD video, it doesnt look worse than GT5p at all, high speed rind was equally as sparse as the one in this demo. Anyway, hopefully this is based on GT5p and not GT5 but I find it strange that they would reslease a demo this close to launch that is based on something completely different :s

and it does look worse. as i said, the crowds moved in prologue, grass and gravel looked better. lighting was better. the level of AA was better, the reflections on the cars was better. this is about as cut down as you can possibly get. prologue looked great (environmentally and all...seriously, compare it to real life footage, bland track in reality = bland track in-game)

Wow, you genuinely believe that PD would release a demo (or whatever you want to call it) of a game that looks worse than something they built over 2 years ago?? So is this supposed to be based on GT:HD?

I'm sorry but GT5p easily had some of the worst enviroments in any console racing game of this current generation. How you can say they looked great is truely baffling, its not even a case of personal preferance.

Well I'm with Jin on this one. I thought the gameplay looked wacked based on that video, very PGR-ish. I mean, for "the" driving simulator it falls a bit (more like a lot) in the arcade side.

Graphics wise I am also not impressed in the least, and I really don't see they making radical changes for the final build. We might see better crowds and stuff like that, but I really don't see any big jumps. I think anyone expecting that is pretty much delusional. I also hate that excuse of "it's a demo 3 months away from release". More than 90% of the time, demos are pretty damn accurate representations of the final game--specially on a technical note. Think of Lost Planet, with a demo released probably about a year away from release. It looked the same in the final build. The same goes for.......I'd say 95%+ game demos to retail. In fact, I'm being generous 'cause I can't quite remember which game saw a huge upgrade from demo to retail.

but it isnt a demo for GT5, that is the point. it's just to show off the new physics they've got going on for the GT academy comp they are currently running.

if it was a GT5 demo i'm pretty sure it would be called that.

but we'll see, one of us is going to be eating their words, and based on demo's at various game conventions, and how great they looked, i cant imagine it will be me...but who knows.

The thing is though that the "thing" has a page stating that its a demo for GT5 when you boot it up. Hard to argue with that.

Well I can't see how I would really. The cars already look awesome, but tracks have always been a weak point of the GT games. They look generic in general, and lacking in details. I remember the days of FM 1 vs GT4, when some people did comparisons of Laguna Seca in both games, and needless to say the track in GT looked weak.

So we know GT has probably the best car models out there, an incredible lighting, etc. Great environments they don't have. In fact, we have no indication based on any demos from any game conventions. We have seen that city track and that's pretty much it. I don't see what's so amazing about that track. It's not anywhere near a PGR city track, and ends up looking very cheap due to several things. They use some awful looking repeating textures for bushes in the middle of the street. All racing games do that, but it's just badly done here and sticks out like a sore thumb. The same goes for the trees. There this straightaway with a bunch of cloned, bad looking trees, one right next to the other.

So in that sense, what we are seeing in this track (the demo track) is not unlike what we've seen of GT5, GTP, or GTHD.

Jokes aside, all of the videos shown from the convention have been off-screen which naturally hides alot of bad textures and glitches. Now we have direct feed and this is a demo of GT5 and if you think the game is going to improve much more than this then your building yourself up for a big let down.

So much for it looking worse than GT5p ;)

Well I don't think it looks worse than GT5P, I don't know where Korndog came up with that. I guess there is something up with the crowds, and I can see that being improved, but everything else is consistent with the looks of GT5P.
