Faces are animated very well far far better than Halo ODST lol. Skin still looks like metal. The animation for physical movement has always been top notch in Halo!
BTW for those interested in the Halo story, what was originally suspected to be a typo in the press release we are indeed going to play as a Spartan III.

but wow does this look good, halo has the best AI of any action shooter i played, so ill have to get another bloody xbox that will crap on me, again, fucking MS.
back to the game, a spartan 3, ahh geez, id rather take ODST, the spartan 3s were meant for suicidal missions, theyre no match for a spartan 2
so far i think i read all the halo books. fall of reach is the best by far IMO
When all think alike, no one is thinking very much.

Don't underestimate the Spartans IIIs too much, they were on the whole inferior to the Spartan IIs, but there were some true gems amongst their ranks, ones that would surely make any Spartan II proud, and sure enough they managed to impress one of the best of the Spartan IIs, someone that was even apparently better than the Chief himself, Kurt.

A: The Halo: Reach trailer was produced directly in our new game engine using real game assets. Because the game is still in the midst of development, which means things like framerate are still in flux, we do something called a “frame dump” that lets us spit out the content, frame by frame, and then compile it back as the video you all saw on Saturday. We can actually run this same cinematic right now, within the latest game build, but it’s not always at the consistent smooth framerate of the final game (yet).
Q: Awesome, so this is what the final game will look like?
A: This trailer absolutely represents our visual bar for the final game and is near identical to what you’ll see next Fall. The single biggest difference between this trailer and the final game will be the extra generous amount of anti-aliasing (the smoothing of “jaggies” or edges of pixles) present in what you’re watching right now but rest assured that Reach will be significantly improved in this department compared to Halo 3. (The extreme “AA” in the trailer was due to the “frame dump” mentioned above.)
Suffice it to say we’re really excited about the technological and artistic advancements we’re making with Reach and you’ll see more from the campaign in just a few weeks.
** Yes We CAN!! **
Again before we go mad though, cutscenes produced in engine will look better than gameplay produced in engine. However, it's great to see that AA is definitely going to be better.

The warthog with the extra details is definitely in there and I assume those Spartan models, even if some of the most minor of details aren't present during actual gameplay, will be present and accounted for during actual gameplay as well.
This isn't the first time that Bungie has said that this is the bar they are aiming for in the final game, they said the exact same thing with that Halo 3 vidoc, but we never saw anything quite as significant from Halo 3's reveal as we saw from Reach's and on top of that, they are apparently showing more from Reach's campaign in a few weeks.

Though if you think about it, it's only reasonable that a sequel to a game that brought around $0.5B* in revenues pushes the technical envelope on its platform.

"That just happened 'cause that was awesome" - Randy Pitchford, Gearbox
I've just gotten up to Chapter 11 in Reach and, man, the Chief is such an amazing leader. He started out pretty self serving and super competitive, only concerned with the fact that he had won and pretty much nothing else, but Mendez really got through to him, making him realize that it didn't matter that he came in first, because his team came in last. At just the age of 9, the way the Chief took charge during that extraction point mission with all 75 kids including himself taking out those much bigger and stronger soldiers that were guarding the Pelican they needed to make their escape was impressive. It would've been careless to just up and assume that they were going to help them, so it was pretty smart how he came up with a plan to test what their intentions were.
He even found a way around what Mendez had told them, that whoever was the last person to the extraction point, had to be left behind. He completely disregarded that order and was going to make sure nobody was left behind and that he himself was the last person to get on the Pelican once all 74 kids had got on, ready to receive whatever punishment. He was also pretty smart to avoid directly contacting Mendez, knowing he'd probably get the order that someone had to be left behind, instead he got in contact with the Reach AI that auto piloted the Pelican back to base.
Book is pretty awesome thus far. I didn't know that the Chief was the very first personally scouted test subject by Dr. Halsey and Keyes. Guess that's a sign of how impressive he was.
The latest group of Spartan IIIs that even the Spartan IIs never got underwent a genetic enhancement that was strictly forbidden by ONI and I believe by the UNSC as a whole. They had some augmentation done to, in certain conditions, bring out the less sophisticated and animal characteristics of the human brain, which would cause them to lose themselves and be able to rampage and fight on even with the most severe of injuries.
I think Kurt was the one who approved it because he hadn't the stomac to see anymore of the Spartan IIIs under his command die.

We clearly see what it's capable of looking like, but I wonder just how much of this they can actually pull off in 100% real-time. I mean, based on what we've seen thus far this gen, there is no reason why they shouldn't be able to achieve a lot of what we saw in the cutscenes, and the game is just about a year away, so would they really show what was supposed to be an actual cutscene from the game, then have the final be drastically different in more ways than one?
We all know the actual gameplay doesn't have to look quite as incredible as that cutscene, but why shouldn't the cutscene look about as good only with more obvious signs of aliasing, and perhaps even slightly lowered texture resolution (if they have to go there), maybe even a cutdown on the quality of the shadows. I guess if they wanted to maintain all of the things I mentioned, besides the AA quality of course, which is impossible, they could try to lower the impressiveness of some of the models while trying to keep all the rest as good as it was in the trailer? Although, it would be tough to stomach the loss of those insane looking models. When I look at those models, I remember back when I was a kid and liked to play with action figures. Do want :)
