Not to mention the RAMPANT pirating that goes on over there...
I'm not going to suggest that this isn't a problem, but SC2 is still going to sell boatloads in Asian territories. Yes, some of those will be bulk keys for internet cafes, but that's only going to account for a portion of the overall impact that SC2 has in territories like South Korea. Plus, shouldn't those sales count just the same? If anything they'll just soften the blow a little (I think). Regardless, I could totally see SC2 doing record numbers. It's a combination of forces at work. Blizzard's reputation--a content starved fanbase--a sequel so long in the making. The word of mouth hype on this thing is enormous.

Hmm. I sincerely doubt Reach will outperform Halo 3, for a number of reasons.

3 was the culmination of the trilogy, 3 was the "next gen" Halo and 360 game a *ton* of people had been waiting for, 3 let you.. ahem.. finish the fight.

The cynicism ODST was met with (tossers!) wasn't just because it was a 3.5 expansion thing, it was also because Master Chief wasn't in it. I honestly think to a lot of people all these Chief-less Halos without a new number on them are just stop gaps and "not worth bothering with".

I could be wrong, that much goes without saying, but my gut feeling is that 3 will remain the best selling entry in the series, possibly forever.

I think your wrong, the beta has already proved how much people are looking forward to this game, also Reach and all the lore surrounding it, is a massive fan favorite, not to mention that this is Bungies last hurrah in the Halo universe, plus you get to play and see the story of 5 new Spartans along with the fal of Reach. ODST on the other hand from the very beginning had very split opinions from the fans on the Halo forums and in general and by most was seen as an expansion, it also had no way near the marketing H3 had and still did close to 5million sales wise (Reach Beta also a big pull.). I expect Reach to beat Halo3 sales in the same time frame easily.

While these are all good points, when a game sells as much as Halo, you have to take into account all the casual fans who don't go onto gaming sites like we do for all this info etc...

There will be a LOT of ppl who played halo in a dorm room for an online casual experience that have no idea what Reach even is. I still remember how often I would here "humans" instead of spartans or "those alien guys" instead of elites when playing the Reach beta. I think a lot of us forumites forget just how much less a lot of more casual gamers care about certain aspects of gaming we take for granted.

Thats where the marketing comes into it, i expect the marketing for Reach to match or beat that of Halo3.

Me too, I buy collector's edition only well after game's release, where they're often ridiculously cheap. It's really fun to get the game itself and all these little collectibles for $15 or so. I don't have any premium Halo version, all my games from the series are standard and I don't think I'm missing anything. Collectors' editions in general suck major balls in the US/UK, in Poland they are way more attractive, though they're for PC games only.

Agree that they are overpriced, but at least Halo 3's helmet was pretty sweet, and it looks like the Noble 6 statue is going to follow suit.

You have no idea how disappointed I was when the legendary edition halo 3 helmet didn't fit my head, nor my nephew's :P

We'll see campaign gameplay in less than 24 hours! :D It's pretty incredible that it's actually the 4th campaign reveal in a way. Announcement trailer showed as the place and time, than we were shown the characters (VGA trailer), the 1st ViDoc showed us the technology... Now it'll be gameplay finally. Can't wait!

I'm just really hoping we see a decent amount on huge open levels ala Combat evolved. If they really do find a way to recapture the magic of CE this could easily be my fav SP shooter in a long time. I don't think i'll ever forget me and my bro going through the CE campaign co-op for the first time. That game set the console FPS bar so damn high back in the day it will always be one of my favorite gaming memories, up there w/ the first time I played Zelda OoT and GTA III with my dorm buddies.
