What's the polygon count on the characters and environments in comparison to Halo 2?
Not as high as it looks. A lot of detail is achieved using a combination of lighting, textures, normals and bump-maps. We're saving our polygon budget for other things…

I mean saints row is doing it.... too human (probably not best example right now :P) is doing it... crackdown is doing it... halo.... carmack and the guys working on return to castle wolfenstein are doing it.... Something just tells me its either the developers are just really confident they can pull it off or its one of the 360's strengths.
I'm sure even GTA will do it.

The disc speed isn't just a factor here, Microsoft have a lot of tools that optimise the data layout of the disc to put data in the right places hence getting as near to the transfer rate as possible.
Halo 3 is nowhere near this stage though so the demo would have been running off the dev HD

I suppose we can hope that because the PS3 now has a HDD a lot more multiplatform games would take advantage
